I've been thinking about how to put the Palkie design to use in this world. I think the issue I run into is that opossums (apparently they're different from possums?) are kinda useless on their own… their biggest distinction is their ability to play possum but apparently that isn't even a voluntary reaction
Liora provided us with some lore, namely that we're filled with copium to the point we float, but what we have on copium so far doesn't seem to make it a useful trait for us so I'm at a loss here

Hey opossums aren't useless! They're awesome! For example, they're immune to most diseases. Rabies can't survive in them, because their body temperature is lower, which also makes them more energy efficient. They're also immune to a variety of toxins, poisons and venoms, even botulism. depends on the medium (paper, rock, leaves or something), if it's delicate, flowing lines would develop to not tear the paper, otherwise angles would be more common for stone where straight lines are convenient. the way i wrote it at the bottom was for aesthetic reasons, it doesn't have to look like that and thusly doesn't need to be made with a brush, more of a proof of concept

Part 1.

It was an ordinary day as any other in the Retro Reich when a loud explosion could be heard from one of its many workshops

„Hank dammit!“ cursed a chubby naked man in said workshop, his body covered in soot and metallic splinters embedded in his skin here and there.
„Are you okay master?“ came a voice from a side room, out of its door peeked the head of a much younger man, barely an adult, he too was naked but as he approached his master he covered his precious bits, he still felt shame whereas his master felt none whatsoever anymore.
„Yeah, yeah, just fucked ma measurements. Nothing to get ya hair up ya ass about.“
„This happens quite often recently, you sure nothing is wrong with you master?“
„Meh, I'm just pissed, I still cannae believe our faction got booted out with the election, the sheer audacity I tell ya.“

The Election the Man spoke of was one that had been held weeks ago, it had created quite the uproar in the nation as for the first time in centuries one of the ruling factions had been outvoted by a newer faction as the Hank Hillian Public Service Department lost its seat to the Ninner's Entertainment Network. Traditionalists did not take kindly to it and had been complaining nonstop ever since, much to the dismay of many. One such person, on the receiving end of these complaints, was now sitting in her pub, serving a glass of beer to some customers, as she let out a heavy sigh.

„What's wrong bitch?“
„Yeah, why the long face? Show us your tits!“
„Want us to sell you a dildo? We make killer ones“
„Yeah with spikes and shit, Awesome.“

A group of small gnomish man were talking to Ninsiah as they pushed and showed each other from the chair that they were sharing while fighting for the glass of beer that they just got served. Ninsiah looked at them with a deadpan expression. The tall but slender woman was used to the nature of these guests as they were regulars, but their nature still evoked a stir of mixed emotions in her each time they visited, the fact they were staring deep into her cleavage with no shame at all was not helping it either, sure she wore a nice long dress that was a bit more on the revealing side for her legs and chest to entice some men into a bigger tip but at least those showed some restraint usually.

„I'm not even gonna question why you guys got something like that in the first place, but no. That's not it at all. Ever since we got elected, some people gotten really nasty towards me and my fellows, and I don't know what to do about it.“

„What that shit to you anyway?“
„Why not let others do thinking if it hurts your head.“
„Yeah, we don't think either, we just do shit.“

„That is all great, but sadly, I do not have that same luxury as you fellows, you know? I kind of got selected to represent us on the Ruling Council, so sadly I do have to think. I just don't know what to do to make people warm up to us more. All I really can do is sing.“

„Yeah just sing then, makes me happy that's for sure.“

The comments of her patrons baffled Ninsiah a bit, but it also opened her eyes. Why not just sing?

„You know what? I think you might actually not be all that wrong, maybe a nice concert really would do the trick. Thanks fellas.“

Part 2.

It was a few days later that the Ruling Council once more sat together, there wasn't anything too special to be discussed and so the meeting went on mostly without anything of note, until Ninsiah decided to take the end of the meeting to make her idea known. She went in front of the table and handed out some papers to the rest of the Council and began speaking.

„Now then, oh honored Council, I would like to make a proposal regarding some potential concerts. I know that some people still are somewhat reluctant about the last election and thus with some help of the Council I would like to hold some concerts for them to show them, that we do care about them too. I would like them to be free of charge, so everyone can enjoy them with some possible free beverage on top to sweeten the deal. What say you that we make this an unforgettable event for the people to bury the hatchet?“ Ninsiah tried to bring out her best costumer service smile and tried to convince the rest of the Ruling Council by making sure that the Ninner's Entertainment Network would take care of all the busywork, and they just needed some financial help from them. The other council members, however, did not seem too enthusiastic about this.

„Hmm, I do understand where you are coming from my dear, but I am not sure if we can just finance this since it seems to be more a you issue than a national one...“ An older lady in scholarly clothes answered with a conflicted smile. Her mostly silver hair only had a faint shimmer of the pink that it once was, and shows her affiliation with the dreamweavers.

„Yeah, I don't think I can just ok this either, harvest this season has been quite poor due to some cyclones hitting farmlands quite heavy. We will need all quite some amount already to provide aid to them and to import more food to keep steady. These concerts seem rather low as priority in contrast.“ Came a muscular build man in the prime of his life that had floppy ears betraying his heritage as a champyon.

„I am also not sure if the smaller workshops would be too happy if we spend money for a new faction that seems to be only in their interest. Could send the wrong message that they all need to compete for a seat in order to finance themselves better instead of helping the nation.“ Came a third man in leather clothes that were full of wear and tear and showed his history as a master craftsman himself, he was representing the individual workshops on the council.

Part 3.

Ninsiah was paralyzed. She tried her best to outwardly seem calm, but the refusals of the other council members were hitting her hard. They each made a solid argument that Ninsiah could not really argue against, but this was the best Idea she managed to come up with. As she racked her brain for a way out however she got a lifeline that she did not expect at all, as the three Onobots on the council, that rarely involved themselves with the actual decision-making of the Council and simply voted what they want, began speaking up.

„If there is discord amongst the humanoids, then we must act to diminish this.“
„These concerts seem to be something that people like, therefore I see no problem.“
„If the Council worries about the financial involvement of the council, then we will simply fund it ourselves privately.“ Ninsiah was overjoyed hearing this and looked with anticipation at how the other Council Members would feel about the new situation.

„Oh my, if the Onobots themselves are willing to help out, then I see no issue anymore.“ Smiled the old lady. The other 2 members however still looked a bit hesitant as their own issues were not fully addressed with this alone yet. Ninsiah noticed this and started immediately trying to come up with a solution of her own as to not let this chance slip away from her.

„Uhm... I am of course grateful for this financial support from the Onobots for this idea but maybe if we cut down somewhat on the size of the event and use the money saved to further support the farmlands that got hit by the cyclones and show that way that the support of the Onobots is not just for Ninner's Entertainment Network, then surely this would make everyone even more happy?“

With these words, the other last two Council members smiled and nodded their support towards Ninsiah. She was already fist pumping on the inside for her supposed victory, as suddenly a whole new set of problems was shoved onto her and the Onobots began talking anew.

„Hmm, that seems to be reasonable, we cannot see any problems with that.“
„We shall limit the numbers to one concert per city. The main plaza of the capital can hold roughly 53.734, that should be enough for interested people within it for example. Please make sure to arrange for the concert to be of that size.“
„Huh? Wait what?“ Ninsiah was shocked at what she just heard, how is a single concert supposed to reach this many people? That was nonsense!
„As for the concern that this is a project solely from the Ninner's Entertainment Network, we Onobots shall join in as musicians, that way no one will think it is just one Organization getting the support.“
„Wait, huh? You guys can make music?“
„Do not worry, we have never done so before, therefore we should have plenty of space to adapt to whatever you plan for us to do in the concert.“
„Wait no! That's not where the issue is at all.“
„Seeing as everyone is in agreement, the proposal brought forth by Ninsiah of the Ninner's Entertainment Network is therefore accepted and shall be as proposed be handled by Ninsiah with adequate funding by us Onobots. Please make the appropriate preparations by end of the month.“

Before Ninsiah could speak up at all, she was handed back her papers with a big green OK stamp on it from the Onobots. She tried her best to keep smiling, but the twitching in her face gave away to anyone how stressed she was at the new problems thrown her way.

I have just as much of a magpie brain as my oshi so I got distracted from the Kindred doc by thoughts on some of the other kingdoms. Worldbuilding Briskadet I summon thee. How prominent would you say cannibalism should be in your society? I spoke briefly on the subject with a Briskadet months ago, but that anon never came back and Sonny has since become considerably more relaxed on stream, which has also resulted in him feeling much more comfortable being, uh, himself. As a result, I feel cannibalism should play a bigger role in Briskadet society than originally planned. That being said, the impression I've gotten is that Briskadets themselves have very little cannibalistic tendencies. It's Sonny that wants to eat Briskadets. (Which we all probably should've seen coming, given all his ideas for fan mascots were based on things he considers tasty...) I was thinking this could be represented in-universe as Briskadets performing the ritualistic butchering and cooking of corpses as a sort of offering for their god, but would you even say my impression is accurate? Should Briskadets themselves be cannibals, rather than only paying heed to their god's own cannibalistic tendencies?

There're some other lifting gases like methane and ammonia, but I think their lifting power's significantly less than hydrogen and helium. I think I'll stick with hydrogen and/or methane since they're more likely to be produced by the body, and them being flammable makes them useful
I don't think Palkyries (either human or possum form) would be able to actually float even in optimal conditions, but lifting gas built-up might help making them light enough that some of the insect glaive vaulting technique would be somewhat practical
I don't know if it actually works, but my idea's that Palkyries have some biological process (by themselves or some kind of mutualism) that produce these flammable gas that's stored in the body somewhere, and can spray it out from the mouth when necessary. Maybe some kind of teeth in the mouth can produce spark like flint to ignite it?

Regarding cannibalistic Briskadets, the Kadet I spoke to months ago is actually the one who first suggested the idea. I was talking with a /meat/anon about human livestock farms and lamenting that I couldn't reasonably write about such a thing given my chuubas, and that Kadet chimed in to say that Briskadets might believably have such a thing due to Sonny's mentions of cannibalism and the fanbase's infamous schizoness. At the time we concluded that any Briskadets who began to exhibit particularly troubling signs would be exiled into the Badlands, and that those Kadets would probably practice cannibalism and might have one or two human cattle farms. Cannibalism on that level is almost certainly still taboo in Brisketia proper, but do you think this is good enough to represent the small subset who have picked up on their god's appetites? Or should there be a radical fringe group within the kingdom itself with cannibalistic tendencies?

Also, how do you think cannibalism is viewed by Briskadets as a whole? I don't imagine there's much inherent disgust at the thought of the act itself, since you said that most of you "want to be eaten," but perhaps the idea of another human being committing the act is regarded as a form of blasphemy -- human flesh is meant for the gods, and taking it for yourself is stealing from the divine. This sort of slightly odd morality fits Briskadets well, imo, since the reasoning is off-center from most people's, but the end result is something that more or less lines up with the majority's. I feel it's a good way to capture the fanbase's aforementioned schizoness without painting them all as totally unhinged, since there are a decent number of completely "normal" Sonny posters too.

A Queen and her Musicbattle

It was an ordinary day like any other in the Retro Reich... until the sky suddenly turned dark and was hidden behind a wall of clouds of gray. From within the clouds, a circular shaped object broke through and landed in the capital.

Feeling that something was off, many citizens fled the streets and hid inside their homes. Others, however, let curiosity get the better of them and approached where the object was bound to land.

What they saw shocked them, out of the object came many Deadbeats, partly clad in clothing that reminded the people, partly, of the oldest among the Onobots. But before they had a chance to truly ponder what this meant, the Deadbeats started to attack. With strange tools they hit their bodies and from it mysteries sounds echoed out into the city in strange melodies. Those that seemed to be „in the way“ of the sound were blasted to pieces. Others managed just barely to run away into the side streets, screaming in terror.

The Onobots could not let these Deadbeats bring chaos into their beloved home and as quickly as possible they build a formation to face these strange Deadbeats from the skies.

But even the Onobots stood no chance. The shockwave of sound that the Deadbeats emitted moved past any armor the Onobots had. Their bodies vibrated to the extreme, shaking them apart, and the frequency of the music seemed to completely overload their systems.

One after another fell, but still they did not give up. They have vowed to protect humans and as long as even one was left standing they would not let these Deadbeats pass.

As the numbers of Onobots however, diminished further and further, a shimmer of light shone upon the Onobots. An explosion could be heard from the Castle as a being of unfathomable power approached the point where Onobots and Spacebeats were locked into combat. As she landed protective before the Onobots, no one could believe their eyes. It was none other than their Queen Onolumi

„HEY GUYS! What is going on?“ Onolumi looked upon her Onobots with a smile.

„My queen, it hurts me to say, but we alone were not able to face this foe...“ The Onobots could only look at the floor with shame as their Queen's warm smile looked upon them

Funnily enough, I have them written as essentially only being good at combat and espionage... I would definitely be down for this storyline if you're interested in pursuing it! On the other hand, /meat/ might also have an easy time infiltrating the Lightning Republic. The capital itself is well guarded, but due to decentralization the same can't be said for the rest of the nation. Cultists' appetites wouldn't raise any eyebrows, either, so they could operate pretty openly. Only the subtle attempts at indoctrination would need to be hidden away from prying eyes... Having a sort of double-edged sword deal where we both end up influencing each other might be fun.

This is due to the fact that, in the timeline they came from, the vast majority of animals have gone completely extinct in the wild. Yes, I would say odds are the kill's not sanctioned by the clergy, which is generally a big no-no (especially if the slave is high-ranking) akin to how it's seen in, well, most other societies. so, for some reason guro communities are always some of the most peaceful, and levelheaded places, with maybe a few exceptions like oyp or whatever. compare that to any other fetish community, especially the more vanilla ones, and people tend to be more sensitive and easilly provoked. one reason that could be is that guro-chads take their stress out through their fetish. with that said, there is no guarantee that risuners have the same mindset, and they might be a bit worse if their sexuality is just vannilla sex.

Also, i read your lore document, save for the few typos, its looking good. I really like the 4 different tribes of people, especially since that allows for more nuanced interaction with /mans/, as certain nations would probably get along better with some of the tribes over others. Nasfaqg specifically I could see having good relations with vesties, as the two are not only similar, but also Vesper seems to be the most popular of Tempus in the nasfaqg community so there is a meta reason for it as well.

I like the blasphemy idea. Maybe some people can't help themselves when they are performing the burial rites and they sneak a taste, then they are exiled if they're discovered. You might already be planning this but it should be that only the soldiers are schizo briskadets and regular people are tradwife pipeline ones.

Theorycrafting

If /vtwbg/ gets EU4'd here are some unique ideas I've had
1. The game starts at the end of the Age of Containment
Starting year will not be 1130 VTE, but 1000-ish. Aka Pomerlane's era.
In this era, ignorance and Containment is at an all time high.
This is represented in-game with the fog of war being extreme. Your map awareness is at the lowest.
The map graphic for the fog of war is a shoddy version of /vt/'s map. Some continents look different, there's a continent where there should not be. This represents legacy knowledge from the /jp/ apocalypse that people still have.
The only other nations you know are your immediate neighbours, and the sailing path to world stages like /hfz/ arena and divegrass arena.
For empires like /hlgg/ and /2434/ that mediate splits, they know the locations of capitals in their spheres. But everything else is still hidden in ignorance.
The only institution is 'Containment' which is adopted by everyone, including the tribes.

2. The world explorers (a hundred years before 1130)
A global event will fire. A group of /unity/ adventurers will explore the world to find knowledge.
Nations are given choices whether to drive them away, assist them, or have their own adventurers join.
Discovers how terribly outdated every knowledge, maps, and documents are.
Nations that contributed to the mission gets a big chunk of the region revealed, with nations that joined the expedition getting a circumnavigation reveal. Signifying the adventurers bringing back knowledge.
A nation of explorer-diplomats (/vtwbg/) is founded on an island, becoming the birthplace of the 'Rediscovery' institution.
This marks the beginning of the Age of Rediscovery

So I guess I could share some ideas I had for nasfaqg chuubanite. I dont know if I'd make these canon yet but I do want to share.

The chuubanite has 3 separate levels of "refinement", and each level appears in a different state of matter.
>Solid
Its the raw ore, mined from the ground. Its a mineral that can be carved into various items. This solid form is relatively stable, but its magic is by far the weakest of the 3 forms.
>Liquid
Refined from the raw ore, A metallic or water-like liquid. Less stable than the solid ore, but the magic is more potent. This would probably be the most commonly used form of the chuubanite.
For a real world analogue, think of the raw ore as cinnabar, and the refined liquid as mercury, except not as toxic.
>gaseous
Further refined from the liquid. Very volatile, but extremely potent. Handling the gaseous form requires extreme care and precision, and specifically made equipment. Prolonged exposure or exposure to large amounts may cause schizofication. Short term exposure or exposure to small amounts of the gas will increase one's flow greatly.

The chuubanite may occur in all 3 forms naturally, but the ore form is by far the most common one. Pockets of the gaseous form could make mining for the ore dangerous.
The colour changing effects described in the previous rentry on nasfaqg chuubanite would only affect the solid and liquid forms.

The liquid form can be mixed with ink or a special type of ink can be created from it. This ink is then used in the creation of glyphs and runes, which are mostly written on paper and parchment. The glyphs are left unfinished, so to activate their effects one would have to finish them, or they may need to come into contact with activator substance before their effects are activated.
So, we could have magical scrolls, sold to anyone in magic shops. A small glass vial of activator substance is sold alongside the scroll. When activated, the glyph executes a magical effect and is consumed in the process.
Another application would be enchanted items with magical effects (glyphs are painted or carved into them).

>Contracts
The second idea which our rep wasnt a fan of (so it probably wont be canon), but im sharing it anyways, was magical contracts. A special glyph is drawn on paper (left unfinished), and then a bunch of other glyphs are drawn on the paper, each connected to the special glyph. These secondary glyphs are the terms of the contract, each of them corresponding to a promise or an action. These contracts are very easy to recognize as magical.

A contract like this is signed by finishing the special glyph while reciting a set of words which activate the effect. You have to be fully aware of what you are doing while signing the contract for it to affect you. Once signed, the creature is bound to the terms of the contract, and they cannot willingly break them. There are a few ways out of them, but breaking the contract would inform whomever was holding the actual piece of paper that the contract was broken.These contracts would have been extremely rare, because I mostly wanted to use them for flavour.
The idea was that the most powerful plutocrats would actually be slaves under Lady Honk, having literally made a deal with the devil via a magical contract with her. A little nod to the "you'll be here forever" meme as well as the fact that some of the abayo'd players have referenced them "finally being free".
But, not canon, just a thought.

The idea of veteran adventurers being hired as body guards is neat, but I'm wondering if maybe that'd be stepping a bit on /meat/'s varangians (which I'm suddenly having a hard time finding details in the archives). But you can bet that Vestige Nobles are going to be importing books out the wazoo.
