I think it's just a debate over what people count as memories. I wouldn't consider myself as having memories before my teen years and even the early ones are fuzzy but I remember plenty of scenes or details, I just don't remember the context. I can't regress my brain back to whatever I was thinking at the time and there's probably plenty of memories mixed in that were things I was told and not things that actually happened. My instinct would be that I have zero memories before I was 6 but there are places I only lived before I was 6 that I can explicitly remember, but certain details that an adult memory would definitely retain are very fuzzy.
