That's why dynamic expressions should be a thing in every Live2D. Not every streamer cares to hit a key to change expressions all the time, so having the camera pick up the user's facial expressions and transfer that to the character is ideal.

it does depend on the rigging. you can get a lot of emotion out of live2d models even with just making certain mouth/eyebrow movements tied together, making pupils get smaller when you open your eyes wide. that's without any toggles either. I think it is just the japanese style of rigging, it's a lot less expressive that the western vtubers. sometimes it does feel hokey to turn on a toggle when something is happening, but it's something you just get used to doing to make your show of your character better.

That's not an anti statement though, it's just the niche she fills. Myth's casting seems to have been aimed to cover a lot of different bases, and she's been successful in covering that base.

That's because they need to tap a button to change the expression and it's hard to remember to do it during emotional moments. Even for the ones that remember to do it it usually takes a couple of seconds, so often you hear the emotional change in their voices and then it takes a moment for their faces to catch up and it just looks weird.
They need better face tracking technology that actually recognizes and responds to their expressions.

The technology is there at least since 2018. Some companies have developed face recognition that uses iphone's infrared features to accurately detect facial expressions even in poorly lit environments and they can capture micro expressions. This can work in tandem with Apple's Vision API available for developers and so on. I think Apple recently added infrared enhanced facial detection in all phones by default so no one would need to rely on 3rd party apps or develop shit themselves but I'm not sure about that. Basically, the technology is there but they refuse to use it in their holo app.

You can get basic emotions with rigging. Most western rigged models can actually frown, stick tongue out, furrow brows, etc. It's possibly that even though they are using iphones, their homebrew set up is not as good as ARKit tracking + vtube studio.

Nijisanji uses dynamic expressions and most of the time the "default" expression is a smile, the actor would have to go out of their way to make the character look sad or frown. (Nijisanji Live2D is also stiff and their range of expressions is gimped so they shouldn't be a role model but at least they can change expressions on a dime)

A major issue at hololive is their reliance on their own software which is very lackluster to VTubestudio as well as the newer program, VBridger which can be used with VTS to allow for full IOS face tracking.
This is why we can see an average Iron Vertex model looking incredible on a 2view indie, while making Gura look like shit. Holo's software is garbage and wont allow for advanced rigging because its incompatible.
