>> New thread representatives for generals that do not have borders should wait until those borders are decided through an official vote before writing lore which assumes a specific set of borders.
>>Upon a new thread joining the project, a vote to select the country's location should be held during the next voting session that is at least seven days from the date of beginning participation in the project.

>>New thread representatives may vote in voting sessions once they have been participating in the project two weeks or more.

second of all, while this might seem harsh, these votes are to decide long lasting decisions for the thread and while luckily most people recently seem to have been very committed, we also have had cases like the ehe~ rep or ggg rep that seemed enthuastic at first but then quickly vanished again.

also please remember that even with soemthing having been voted on, there is always the option to appeal for a revote later on.

alright i am home so here is my thoughts and argument regarding the island thing:

first of all i want to make it clear i personally have no issue with /2434/ having some further out islands at all, if anything the possibility for such things excite me since i myself would have something i previously scrapped that could be revived if such things exist.

however, and in partly for the last part just mentioned(i want to be transparent about my own desires here upfront), i do not liek the sentiment that this will be done for jsut /2434/ and then forbidden from there on out for other nations.

for those others that brought the /ahoy/ thing into this: that should have no impact on anything for the future whatsoever. the change of border was agreed upon by voting, including alice.
First, it was not requested by anyone in the thread at all and was done due to miscommunication with Panon(the usual problem, not his fault) and the thread worked with Panon to make it a thing that all could agree upon.
Second, with this change /ahoy/ lost land they had previously and to appease some people that had reservations about it, alice offered her island in return. While this was admirable, giving compensation for compensation after the fact would set some bad precedent for the future. It can create a mindset whereas nations will feel entitled to new islands when they gave land to new threads.

As for alice arguments herself, i think those are fine and furthering decisions that breed creativity is something i think is a good thing. but ultimately it comes down to her personal desires. it is not a necessity to have these islands. Other nations, regardless which ones or how their naval setup is, should be able to just as well have this tool for creativity and if they make a fine case for themselves to request for an island.

therefore i think the vote we have should be about if any nation at all is allowed to make requests or not about newly made islands. and if there is a case against it then it should be the /mans/-/wah/ situation where the new island was made to solve a huge problem the best way possible and was in that regard a necessity and any nations that want it for personal stuff themselves should be treated the same.

of course each case should be seen on itself as for what the request is, the request of alcie for example should be seen differently from one i would make or if some other nation would want an /inf/ sized island because "why not?"

before we vote at all however, and if that has happened already and i missed it i am sorry to brign this up. We should actually ask for the viepoint of the mapanon and climate anon, ocean current anon ect. since they are the ones doing the heavy lifting for this and new requests could mess with their hard work they have done and i feel before any desires of our own we should respect the work they have done for us so far and should respect if they themselves are fine with this or not.

>>31129442
Not sure how official this was meant to be but the bylaws clearly state that poal links are not to be used for official decision-making. We tried that for the first issues like infinity and the results seemed to be tampered with. Poal being unreliable is why we use the current voting system.
>>31132445
>>31132535
There is no reason to remove options due to a perceived lack of support. If people don't like them they won't vote for them, but why deny them the ability to vote for it if they want? That seems completely unnecessary.
>>31136858
Regarding removing loreless nations, I'm not in favor of it. It feels like we would be taking a huge step backwards and it would make the map look empty and boring. I can't speak for others, but I do think about where other nations are when considering what direction to take my worldbuilding, even if they aren't active yet. Having so much uncertainty about the majority of the world seems like it would have a negative effect for people working on the project. There could also be concerns about about certain land being seen as more valuable than others. If a new nation decides they want to border X because they seem like a fun worldbuilding partner and then Y comes along a month later also wanting to border X because their threads have a lot of cultural overlap, then suddenly Y might be unable to get a spot that makes sense for their country because all the land near X has been claimed. A first come first serve approach doesn't make sense to me here because the last third of the nations that show up will have very limited options that may not work for them. That's why everything should be placed wholesale so that everyone is guaranteed a reasonable location.
With the new island thing, I don't think we should be bending over backwards so much to give everyone precisely what they want. Interesting worldbuilding often results from less-than-ideal circumstances, like how /rose/ was placed in a frozen tundra and the rep had to find ways to work around that. All this stuff with adding land masses and changing climates to perfectly suit new reps feels like the wrong way to go about it to me at least. I would rather see people accept the territory they're given and work with what they have rather than request whatever suits their needs. Seems more interesting to me, but feel free to disagree. This also feeds into the point above about reps choosing where their new nations should go, not everything will be perfect from the get-go, but figuring out how to write with those problems is half the fun.

Sorry, I may not fully understand the situation yet, still reading through everything posted while I was sleeping, but I do think that letting people add landmasses at this point is a bad idea and sets the wrong precedent. I would prefer if we kept the world stable and fixed for the most part and built societies and relations between nations instead. Changing the foundation of the project, ie the planet we're all on, this far in doesn't seem like the right approach. This change is relatively minor I imagine, but it can lead to more shifts down the line. I don't see much reason to add in more stuff for established folks. >It feels like we would be taking a huge step backwards and it would make the map look empty and boring.
I don't have a counter argument against this one really, since it will be kind of true? but I honestly think that's a worthy trade off for not having this really awkward struggle where every time a new thread shows up we have to rush to find a spot in the ocean, or an unprepped and loreless thread to carve up so they can have a comically small smidgen of the map in an area they probably won't have much overlap with, like what /Mans/ is set to get. While I'm sure mans probably isn't super peeved about what they're getting that's more than anything because of how layed back Vesbro is. My opinion on the whole process is that its a disaster waiting to happen. How do you plan on making space for Holo-EN3 when they arrive?

> I can't speak for others, but I do think about where other nations are when considering
Explain what you mean. What country are you? what lore did you plan?
I admittedly did this a little myself, in that I ended up planning a good amount of my lore around /wah/ being a neighbor, however I don't think its especially healthy world building to plan your lore around your perception of how a neighbor would behave if they WERE there. For example, imagine if Wah came in and wanted to trade with me rather than be my rival.

To create an example of how this could be harmful: Nation A is next to B and C. B and C, the writer for A imagines, will be hostile and writes his lore around this assumption. B and C actually arrive and neither are hostile, and are actually quite friendly. A's lore suddenly makes no sense.

>Some land could be more favorable than others because some threads may be more desirable writing partners. First come first serve is unfair
This is predicated on the idea that everyone will want to write with the same people. This won't be the case. most people will want to be next to threads that they specifically feel they want to write with. An ideal location for /Nene/ would probably be different from an ideal spot for /Okfams/. It also at least gives new reps a choice of who they want to write with. I'd prefer some people get some choice then everyone getting no choice.

This also assumes that the Neufag era placed all the nations in reasonable locations. Which wasn't the case. Infinity nearly had to throw away all of their lore because Neufag insisted on not giving them an island, causing the longest time loop in this threads history, and my name originates from having to edit mountains into /KFP/ because the country I'd been given had a comparable elevation to Lithuania, which kind of shits all over 60% of KFP's aesthetic. I'm sure there are plenty of other people who have grievances with the geography of where they are.

>Limitations leads to interesting outcomes
Sometimes yes however its is also really really damaging to some people who have very very specific ideas for what they want to write, and being told "nah buddy you're living in the arctic" is going to turn a lot of people away from writing. When basically every rep has asked for a change to their climate you have to acknowledge that there is an issue with the way we're doing things.

Anyway. Those are just my opinion.
One last thing I'd like to add is that I think it would be interesting to have unowned land, or at least islands, for the naval civs to squabble over, since its realistic.

the one i alluded to in my view of things, would be soemwhere around picrel.

i would want it to be something where i can showcase a different kidn of culture of the mainland, where it is further off and thus less influenced by the mainland culture.

the mainland, while very peaceful, loves competition and has a lot of "go with the flow" behavour towards onobots.

this would be a culture where competing agaisnt each other is not so much a thing and instead of banding together against all the scary thigns aroudn them. it would also be way less influenced by onobots.

it would also make for a nice place to have some kind of resort place where peopel get to nejoy the quality of life improvements and lucury of what the mainland produces in workshops and can then order it for themselves without having to deal with thte eccentric nature of the mainland.

>How do you plan on making space for Holo-EN3 when they arrive?
It's a fair question, and we've kind of been winging it thus far. Perhaps we could set up this provincial system but with the understanding that the current borders are to remain mostly as they are, but now there are set territories to guide us in drawing a new nation's borders. So just don't throw out all the old stuff when making this new system basically.
>To create an example of how this could be harmful: Nation A is next to B and C. B and C, the writer for A imagines, will be hostile and writes his lore around this assumption. B and C actually arrive and neither are hostile, and are actually quite friendly. A's lore suddenly makes no sense.
It's definitely a balancing act, but I meant in a more individual-centered way. Obviously you don't want to assume national policies or culture for an unrepped nation, but as an example if I wanted to do a story about a /meat/ slave it helps to know what countries are likely raid targets. Or if I wanted to include a foreign trader with wares from /fbk/ or something as a plot point, knowing basic information like their climate and how reasonable it would be for them to travel to me is useful.
>This is predicated on the idea that everyone will want to write with the same people.
There are reasons specific threads get popular to work with, some are much more conducive to collaboration with new people.
>This also assumes that the Neufag era placed all the nations in reasonable locations.
Fair enough, but things are intertwined enough now that I don't know how much we can change without screwing things up.
>>31140642

This is a collaborative project, people need to be adaptable to some degree. /inf/ had a very specific idea of what they wanted that clashed too much with the setting and had to be significantly reworked as a result. /nasfaqg/ had similar growing pains at first. Would being at a lower elevation really have drastically effected what you wanted to build, perhaps even to the point of leaving entirely?

for us, its a chance to become a bit closer integrated with the holocontinent which we are heavily influenced by and should from meta perspective be more connected to.

It would be easier to justify historical connections and thus lore with the faraway nations like /who/ which I personally would really like to interact with, and the long distance is making it difficult to justify. Im not comfortable writing lore for repless nations so i cant really say that "yeah we got ports we can stop at in /ggg/ and so on.

There is also the point to be made about how having such an island would fit a seafaring nation very well. I considered having islands in the Golden Sea or the strait between the nijicontinent and the ID peninsula, but placing islands so close to other nations kind of felt like stepping on their toes, and that would not fit the idea of becoming closer to the holocontinent at all.

Middle of the ocean in the location i pointed at would not be on anyone's doorstep, and it would help justify a closer connection to far reaches of the holocontinent, thus the location i suggested.

NTA, I'm not against the idea of nations somehow influencing the climate of their country, but I do feel like the way you did it is pretty thoughtless. Just going "the queen makes the climate into what I want" without considering any of the ramifications. Like, what happens if the queen dies, how quickly does the climate change back if she does, what happens if there is a conflict between two branches of the royalty, how come the effect follows the borders of the country precisely. It just seems pretty handwavy.

Yes, I've thought about this and it probably would. It would have definitely made writing less fun, and what I produced would end up being less interesting. It would have ended up being "Chicken themed Afrikaners" instead of KFP.
Most of the stories I have planned would make far less thematic sense on a flat Kaisereich.
I'm not sure if I'd quit, but I'd certainly write less.

Of course people have to be flexible, and limitations CAN lead to interesting writing, however I feel like you're willingly ignoring that in most cases the sort of limitations you're suggesting people just adapt to are going to obstruct the writing of interesting lore and stories more than it will help it.

One could argue that there would be other kinds of lore and interesting stories to take their place with these "limitations" but that line of reasoning will just lead us in circles. From my point of view, I came into this project without any preconceived notions of how I wanted my nation to be, so I used the map to inform my decisionmaking and build something up organically from it. A note because I looked into this specifically, but topography can be pretty steep in the right circumstances. See the rockies https://gisgeography.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/US-Elevation-Map-1550x925.jpg or madagascar https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/Madagascar_Topography.png ; thousands of meters of elevation change in small distances. I used fairly realistic erosion simulation methods to generate the Moriji topography and due to the supervolcano pushing up the island, it ended up with pretty steep elevation lines. This is I think the real correct take. We shouldn't completely change the map every time a new writer joins, but I also think its kind of obtuse to just expect a writer to discard or adapt all of their ideas because it happens that the lore their Oshi has doesn't match up with the all mighty map.

For example, here's a hypothetical:
>Hypothetical guy has Sara Nagare as his oshi
>The map hypothetically has Sara Nagare's countries climate as being identical to that of Irelands. That map cannot be changed.
>This poor bastard has to find a way of adapting all of the very Arab coded lore and cultural themes of Sara Nagare to what an Ireland like climate would allow
>The end result is either he quits or he writes lore that ends up having barely anything to do with Sara Nagare

but i think coming up with solutions on how to make the things given work for what you desire is also valied.
I am not sure exactly what meppers has planned for his setup further but to me havign a Queen that needs to travel the land and bless the earth in order for the land to stay fruitful and not turn into a desert sounds also interesting and has many potential for all kinds of takes for this. what if a new ruler is beign lazy and the land faces struggles due to that for example

I should add that I'm not saying we should force mepper to change /mep/'s climate back, or me criticising how /mep/'s climate comes to be. It's ultimately his thread so it's his decision.
Ngl stuff like this is another reason I lean towards the province map claim idea. That way if they really want a specific climate, they can just put their countries in said climate without having to jury-rig it afterwards.

btw Panon, would it be okay to ask for your help in the near future in regards to setting up some basic lore for a navy?
i have been thinking about this ever sicne a while ago, when the argument was made that there should at least exist some rough basics for it and since all i got is "we got a lot of ships but we don't even know how many". i feel like the argument is correct and this approach might not be sufficient.
i would still like to keep the spirit of it up by having the navy just be a rough estimate and not clear numbers but i also would like ti improve it, it is just something so out of my element and my miracle dream of having another /vrt/ rep show up who can this is probably just a pipe dream for a very looong time.

put thanks for accepting, honestly when i tried to read up on navy stuff i maybe read 5 sentences before i instead started to drift of and create a character as the top admiral who is some cool femme fatale that got he rposition through hard work, the kidn of seriosu, straightlaced woman with logn straight hair and bags under her eyes at all times. she laments the fact she gets to have a fine navy under her but for a nation that is very peaceful whiel having grown up hearign the stories of her predecessor and how they were one of the few generations to take part in actual combat by supporting the shogunate navy in their war with /pcg/ and how honored they were for this opportunity. while she fears to probably never get to show her worth at all but still cannot accept anything but the best through hard work.

so people pay to watch the executions? /meat/ is fairly clean and organized with executions to make sure they can get the best, most useable resources as possible out of it, but that might cause it to be less showy. plus, things can look worse than they actually are, and /meat/ engages in torture for the actual effect, not for the mere appearance of things being brutal, but we know how to make examples of those we leave behind, and we have good medicine to keep them alive and suffering for a very long time, so we could assist in the torturing and execution of criminals if you wanted.
