It's actually usually really easy to tell when someone is faking interest in something but most people don't pay attention to start. People are misusing pick me in this thread but there's one popular vtuber on this board I can think of that loves to talk about shit like fighting games and Yugioh but plays horribly with no familiarity with them everytime she streams those games, has a dozen excuses for why she can't play them, but never actually asks chat or other vtubers learning questions to get into it.

If someone doesn't know shit, doesn't try to know shit, but says they know shit they're pretending. It's really straight forward.
