Lui's not too horrible at this game. It's hard to get super excited for it, though, considering it's a mobile game. It's very clear the controls are absolute unholy ass. I haven't played Sunbreak so I can't really speak to that but the complete lack of endgame content on launch was pretty lame, you basically just had to grind the shitty tower defense gamemode to do anything. I also don't like the riding mechanic, it trivializes hunts quite a bit and makes invading monsters like Bazelgeuse pretty lame because they just show up to help you do a big chunk of damage against the monster and then immediately fuck off.
I don't think it's a terrible game but it got stale pretty quick for me.

Turf wars only happened occasionally and for certain monsters, and mounting just knocked the monster down so you could hit it. The riding thing happens every time a monster decides to wander into the battle and does a bunch of damage, applies a blight effect if they have one, and continually knocks the monster down until it's done doing the attack. The monster also immediately leaves when it's done so there's not even any risk from an invasion, they just show up to help you.
The mounting itself does feel more interactive though, I'll agree with that. It is more fun than just mashing one button until it falls down like in previous games. I just think it's a bit overtuned and makes the hunts feel pretty static.

It is, but its a cheap imitation that removes the threat of invaders. The long you play, the more you'll come to hate the wyvern riding mechanic. It becomes painfully obvious when doing afflicted quests that monsters basically only change areas so they can fight and let you have a mount. It becomes worse when you go out of your way to ride a monster before its "scripted" to, but the game still forces it to fight with another monster, and they awkwardly fight a bit then leave.
