I've noticed that newfags are referring to the retirement/termination of an indie vtuber as "graduation".
Indie vtuber doesn't "graduate" they're just retired, because they're not part of a vtuber group, unlike corporate vtubers.

You don't have to be a part of a group to "graduate" from something. This isn't just a vtuber thing, but almost anything in life.

Graduation is a shit term in both vtuber and idol spheres. They don't graduate they get shitcanned and retconned into non existence irl

>> No.3076947

And even with corporates, 'Graduation' is never used to refer to a firing or termination, but when the talent wishes to leave

No, a termination is a termination. Those are never treated the same way as a vtuber's retirement which is branded as a "graduation". These people were straight up FIRED from their companies so they don't get a frilly word to describe their end of activities. Neither Hitomi Chris nor Jitomi Monoe's end of activities were branded "graduations" as they breached contract.
Also no, there's no rule that states indies can not use the term graduation. The term itself doesn't refer to "graduating from a school" or a "company" in the first place. The full phrase this term derives from is 「VTuber活動から卒業する」 which directly translates to "graduating from vtuber activities." Many retired indie chuubas used this term before.
And for the last time, stop making meta threads you fuck.

I just think that “retire” would be a more appropriate word in English even for corporate vtubers. “Graduate” implies that they are moving on to something bigger and better than what they were doing before, which is hardly ever the case for idol “graduations”

this

this board really makes me despize everything about vtubers. including this thread: "x are not allowed to do/say/etc this and that". oh fuck off, really.
especially indie vtubers are just people with some equipment + an avatar who do what they like. they have literally 0 reason to appeal to your specific preferences. just... watch someone else. especially indie vtubers who aren't connected to anyone else.
