I remember like few months later after her debut she once said that she wanted to learn Japanese so that she could collab with her senpai in Japan. So, anons, based on her spoken Japanese so far did she genuinely make a lot of progress and the improvement in her Japanese?

Literally none.

The whole "I want to learn JP" thing is just a talking point every EN chuuba does at some point, it's not real. If they actually wanted to learn JP, they would have learned it before joining.

I mean, just to elaborate on this, look at Lui. Lui debuted **after** all of EN, decided she wanted to learn English, and has been making a lot of progress. Compare that to EN who have had years to do the same.

To actually learn Japanese you have to read Tatsumoto's guide to Japanese and do what it says really closely. It's not like you can do it by playing fucking duolingo or shit like that. It doesn't work. You have to invest effort and time. Vtumors will never achieve any level of fluency.

Well, there honestly isn't.

Most japanese have alteast a basic understanding of the english language and facilities accomodate English speaking tourists...

Even if you tried talking to a native in Japanese, they will insist on talking to you in English.

Kiara put the work in long before she became a vtuber. She spent several hours a day streaming on NND to talk to JOPS - starting off by solely using google translate to interact with them before picking up enough of the basics to have simple conversations. Then she moved to Japan and got the rest down through immersion. Gura doesn't have the motivation for such methods.

Not necessarily. I don't see the need to put in the effort to learn a whole new language that's not even necessary for the job I'm applying for. Once you make it in though, that's when you should consider putting in the effort but we all know they rarely follow through.

Decent proportional of higher education in Asia knows conversational English that's why you get lots of ESL including me on this board. I started learning English from elementary school and still do ESL mistakes.
Lui probably had university education by the way she talks. So she has the knowledge and improves when she is in right environment. Can't improve shit if not engages with native speakers.
Asian languages are complete different system than English and European languages and I don't think there is mandatory Asian languages class in highschool in US. While in Japan they starts learning English in middle school.
It's totally different story on both side.

There's a difference between never needing to know their languages and your bold claim of
>Even if you tried talking to a native in Japanese, they will insist on talking to you in English
Can you absolutely get by in foreign countries without knowing their native languages? Absolutely. Will they insist on speaking with you in English despite you clearly making the effort to speak to them with their native tongue? Dubious at best.

Depends on your language ability.
If it's easier to talk in English I'll prefer it. It's because for tourism it's important for them to understand so they can serve you. Not for you to understand them.
