its kinda a meme response but meditation is pretty much the most direct way to gain control over your autonomic response. it's a pretty long process though, and if you have anxiety probably the first week of it is gonna feel kinda bad. i'd recommend trying theravanda meditation first and then springboarding from that into metta meditation. i have a hunch trying metta meditation first wouldn't work well.

im no expert, but my low-wit understanding is that theravanda is more about attention and awareness while metta is, well, it translates to "loving-kindness." i hate to shill on here, but as far as theravanda "the mind illuminated" is really good resource. im sure you could find a free copy on libgen or something.
for practical purposes, theravanda is a good place to start because it teaches you to understand meditation as a cognitive exercise as opposed to just being a mood pacifier. it has concrete-ish milestones and signposts, and in itself increased lucidity leads to peace. that said, as far as dealing with anxiety, in my experience theravanda is a lot more indirect than metta, which is essentially just practicing the emotion of peace and nothing else. the problem is it isn't as much of a linearly progressing process and so it's a lot more of a leap of faith to believe it'll work. that and i think without the increased awareness you get from theravanda you wouldn't be able to quite notice the actual adumbrations of increasing calm and peace. hope this helps anon.

Meditation, exercise, or an interesting hobby that keeps you active. It’s all about finding what’s right for you and what keeps you going. As for sleep I find myself in the same situation where sleeping in causes me to lose motivation for the day. An early start leaves you the whole day to get out and have fun.
