I think you misread what I meant.

I remember drawing an absolute blank when looking for standout verbal patterns or personality traits that could feasibly be displayed in a non-fantasy setting in a narrative that didn't particularly relate to her schizo or idol tendencies. The core of the problem I suspect is that Suisei is a fairly reserved person, at least on camera. As someone who also wrote a Suisei fic, she doesn't let the mask slip very often. This is why people end up latching onto her perceived dorkiness/stacyism/sociopathy. She doesn't really tell childhood stories, relatable anecdotes, or anything along those lines. (inb4 some N3 level fuck chimes in) It doesn't help that clippers latch onto "X Character trait" for chuubas so you won't see moments otherwise unless it's from a Hoshiyomi.

Suisei is difficult to write because she occupies a strange position of being both gregarious and reserved at the same time.

There are clips where she's super sweet and outgoing, almost like a more hyperactive Sora. But there are others where she is the personality of the esteemed, proud idol who puts on the perfect dignified appearance when in public.

It's not impossible to write that but you *really* need to know Suisei well to write that in a way that isn't clumsy. I don't begrudge people for not writing suisei exactly as she is. I think she's one of the hardest characters to write perfectly as she is because she's almost bipolar in my experience.

My understanding of her is that she is a woman with a lofty dream and she's able to pursue that dream because she's put in the hardwork, and has the talent to back it up. Not to mention her determination and stubborness that keeps her almost unfaltering. So from a first glance she seems like an actually star, someone in the big leagues. And this can be quite intimidating, to both fans and co-workers alike. It's defintely why some people believe her to be a bitch and some other holos have shown to be very respectful and sometimes nervous around her. But from the way she acts and anecdotes from other people, those preconceived notions couldn't be any further from the truth. She's very very genki and is very supportative of the ones around her. There's also many stories about her many quirks and most people would come to the conclusion that she's probably on the spectrum after all she's done.

Overall I think she is an incredbily nuanced person and there are so many things I didn't mention and a lot of things we still don't know about her. She's a real tough person to write about and it's understandable why she's get flanderized so often, because it makes her a whole lot easier to write.

Occasional reminder that software people work with text all the time, and have developped good tools for it.
Version control systems like git allows you to never lose your work, go back in time through your edits, and easily work with parallel versions of your text.
Text editors like vim or emacs take a bit of time to get used too, but you can constatly discover new tricks to increase your editing speed.
And even if you don't want to change the software you use, you can practice touch typing and reach 80-100 wpm in two months.

I initially thought that the characters could have used way more fleshing out and the development of their relationship should have been slower paced, but I guess that’s because the initial premise of this story seemed like a long one with both Sui and Koyo being actual contenders. I don't know. Should each chapter count as an individual fic? Or just count the whole? And then this opens the whole can of worms that some fics are way longer than others. Which would mean that I should do stats on number of fic by tag, and number of characters by tag. Which itself reminds me that tags indicate the presence of content, and not the quantity, a 100k word fic with a short paragraph with ntr will surely be tagged as ntr, but it's not 100k words of ntr.

Which then reminded me of the "more serious/grounded" MW story I wanted to write with Suisei as a major character. She's already successful(relatively speaking), and with her tryhard attitude she's extremely meticulous about maintaining the life she has now. Sure, she can take some jests from co-workers and fans, but that's par for the course and no matter what, she never lets on how much pressure she's truly feeling, opting to pull through with sheer willpower. That is, until (You) showed up. Being depressed, apathetic and most importantly, her ex-boyfriend, she sees you as a threat to the ideal life she had worked so hard to build.

Funny thing is, you don't care about her, or at least that's what you think. The story I want to write is really just about a dude who knows he's fucked up in the head yet somehow pulled into the lives of other, seemingly more successful girls who have their own share of problems. As for Suisei, her tryhard attitude makes that your gener existence like a parasite in her brain, slowly eating away at her until she can't take it anymore. it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where her paranoia causes her to see threats where there are none, and use you as a convenient scapegoat for her own insecurities, leading her to self-destruct in a really bad way(turning Suicopath).

I've read Otoko ja nai, Suisei desu! I haven't slept the last two nights.

A bit about my mindset: in software we do code reviews all the time. The goal is to end up with the best code possible, avoid bug, share knowledge. The essential rule of code reviews is this : you are not your code. Criticism of the fic isn't a personal attack against you as a writer, it's my opinion on how to improve it as a reader. I'll do this review in the spirit of a code review. However there's something else. When we do code reviews the code is the property of the company, or open source. Here it is your fic, it belongs to you. If you don't agree with the direction I want to push the fic, by all means ignore my comments. It's your work. Critique is piss easy and mostly worthless. Creation is where the value is.

The beginning is a bit rought, it's like you have to force your way in, as opposed to being invited by the words. Repetitions of star and stop for example. On the other hand, after rereading them a few times, it has some kind of rythm to it, almost like poetry. "Understatement" feels a bit weak, "I suppose" even more. "Who is her?" sounds like Ebonics. Is this gramatically correct? "Simple" feels a bit weak and weird too. "From recent memory" sounds more like a guy that has her in his spotify playlist than an idol fan. "you know, on my part" the "you know" is unnecessary, and you should start a new sentence at "On my part" (which also sounds weird). This paragraph has suddenly more high class language, and the start of the next is "Yo Suisei". I don't understand if the MC is supposed to be a nerdy guy that reads poetry or a street smart guy. Starting with "of course I'm real", I feel like it's not how Suisei would react, but I don't recall having seen her annoyed often. "Perhaps this heat is making all of us act a bit weirder than usual, can’t complain alright." Same problem as before, the personality of the MC changes in the middle of a sentence. "karaoke" is a noun, no capital letter needed. "carefully black painted walls" is awkward. "but most importantly it had AC. Nothing else mattered, just being able to escape that fiery hell outside made this trip worth it." This is a pure gold, in the positive sense, no irony. As I'm reading this, I instantly know that the author, and the character, are human being like me that struggle in the heat of this fucking summer. In ~20 words, you ground the story in reality and time. You can be proud of this.
You need more buildup before Suisei sings and dance, it's like it's over in one sentence. If you're struggling with describing this watch a concert or karaoke 3d stream and just write what you see. The remark about the food and drink is cute, though I don't know if that's a thing Suisei would do. Look into the dynamics with her sister, who does what. I think that it's Suisei that cooks food and feeds her, in which case you can add something about Suisei being selfish for once.
"Aaah, I'm exhausted" I can hear "tsukareeetaa", that's good. "Sat" and "passes", two different conjugaisons. No fun -> i can hear the "tsuruiiii". The competitive side is nice.
Ended up paying -> it was the deal from the start, he just paid. Capital for Suisei. Don't hesistate to use a spellchecker and add words like Suisei to the dictionnary.
"With a wink a bit of red on her face she said her goodbyes." -> "With a wink and a bit of red on her face, she said her goodbyes.". Sink to me -> sink in. Distance, this -> start a new sentence at this. Pic -> picture, unless you want to go full on street boy, which is fine. But coherence is important. Running salt -> pouring salt.
At this point I'll stop the detailed commenting because doing it on my phone while switching tabs all the time is hell. If you want more give me commentary permissions or something and I'll do it on google docs or something.
Suisei going through lots of emotions while being ignored is good, the initial reaction of the MC makes sense too.
The power dynamics are great, Suisei fits very well the "person that lacks some common sense and ends up abusing people" that anons were talking about a few threads ago (killing people like ants).
The ending comes a bit too soon, especially since things get more tender at the end, you can expand it a bit and add some.more aftercare.

Now, a small interlude about turds and diamonds. A diamond in the rough and a turd may look the same at first, but no matter how much you polish it, the turd is still a turd. There's no point in spending time on it, it's wasted. On the other hand, a diamond will become better and better the more you polish it. Your fic is more like a diamond in the rough, which fits the Suisei theme well. The "grandes lignes" are here, the skeleton is good, but it needs more polishing, more editing. As I've sais earlier I can give more feedback if you want.
In conclusion, thanks for writing that, I enjoyed it and it takes some courage and generosity to offer your work to everyone!

I wouldn't want it to drown out newly posted fanfiction and dislike arguments that devolve into accusations about who's who, but some conversation is fine even if it might not interest me personally. It tends to produce unsightly outgrowths, but there's a certain threshold under which it just isn't worth it to get upset about things to me. If there's a lot more message about a guy in a Towa cosplay though, I'll start to complain as well. Everything has its limits.

I think this is the biggest problem. One of the hardest things about joining a new thread is learning all the names, culture, history and whatnot. /wg/ would probably be among the hardest to get new blood for, if you take into account how likely it is for a new anon to enter at any given time and be overwhelmed with the shit going on as a result of pseudo-namefagging. Before I go to bed, I'd like to hear some feedback on a small snippet I wrote. I was discussing some potential changes with Pekoanon for his latest fic and was wondering if this feels "in-character" for Suisei when operating under the idea that she's trying to seduce you.


"Your disguise is well put together, anon. I'm not surprised you managed to slip past my staff, but did you really just want my autograph or were you hoping to meet other members of Hololive, too?"
"No, I really just came here to see you!"
Suisei smiled, a beautiful crescent finally gracing the entirety of her curiously bright-red cheeks to replace her signature smirk; her eyes were still filled with mischief, however, as she ran her eyes down your body.
"That makes me happy. Wouldn't you say it's a bit of a waste to walk away with just an autograph, though?"
Her tone is altogether suggestive, and she takes a step towards you.
"N-no," you managed to stammer out, nerves starting to fail as her proximity grows ever closer. "this autograph was worth every moment planning. What more could I ask for?"
Immediately her smirk returns and she sidles up to your now-petrified form.
"Well, I'm really nervous right now, you know? It's my first LIVE. I need a way to relax and, well..." She plants her right index finger on your chest and starts dragging it downwards, staring into your eyes all the while. She laughs. Her laughter, like a chorus of windchimes; if God existed, this is surely what heaven's angels would laugh like. Then she plants her lips on yours, and you return to your statuesque state.

I know my writing is a steaming plate of dogshit and chips. I'm just curious as to thoughts on this attempt at her personality.

Honestly I still feel this isn't right. I definetly don't think she'd be this suggestive, seductive and refined. I beleive she'd be very straight forward about what she thinks and what she says. However, it would come off a kinda clumsy the way she's expressing herself but she would also have the utmost confidence in her awkward attempt at seduction. Like she's confidently incorrect. Her attempts would most likely immitate popular tropes from romance media but again it'd be a little awkward as many tropes don't really work the same way in real life.
