there's nothing wrong with self-shilling but it's generally only recommended when you're about to hit "go live" and start a stream. otherwise you're better off just posting anonymously (though some people aren't very subtle about who they are, they aren't deliberately making the thread about posting their links and stuff)
also, I know there's some weird divide that makes a lot of people treat them like separate communities for some reason, but if you haven't debuted yet you're probably better off going to /asp/ since that thread's more focused on advice and resources (I assume, I only skim it once in a blue moon since I don't feel like it's where I as a viewer belong) while /wvt/'s mainly for discussion of the chuubas themselves.

It's more nuanced, even if I really like a vtuber, some content is just too boring to be worth watching for me, watching a stream can be a lot of time to invest so I'll do something else.

Some content won't allow for interaction or won't allow much of the vtuber personality to exist, thus people watching "for the vtuber" are indeed less interesting. Most collabs really are for the vtubers and not for the viewers.

Also, when you get an influx of viewer for a specific content they will come back hoping for this content. It's a classic problematic that mot content creators had to face, and it's about converting a % of this category-specific audience to start enjoying you and not that type of content only, and stay for other stuff.
League of legends pro players or high ranks can get 20K viewers on league and then 1k on something else, but a few will still keep their audience like Tyler1.

ASMR is a good example of that, you can really get a huge influx of viewers like Nadechama who went from 20 to 150 or sloth who went from 5 to 50, but then if you want to do something else you're gonna have to work on showing viewers why checking another type of stream might be worth their time so you can integrate them to your core audience.

It's not impossible to make a collab worth watching but you have to think about it well and ask yourself why is this specific combination/content interesting from a viewer's perspective. Typically Pippa/Beatani collab was well-received as two shitposters from different cultures, on top of having good banter chemistery.

For numbers, some collabs can really be worth it, for example Lumi did an interview of a male youtuber which lead to days of spam in /pcg/ of angry "fans" going insane but in the end she didn't lose any core audience and jumped from 300 average to 500+ average since then.

I recommend Unity 2019.4.31f1, it works with the VSF sdk which allows you to do fun stuff, and it also supports VRM up to 0.91 at least, which allows you to keep certain stuff. I think it's also less bloated than future unity versions, at least in my experience. Also, you -might- want to skin your mesh yourself, as in assigning the weight of your armature without relying on auto-riggers. They are nice for short projects or low poly assets, but if you ever go for a higher detailed one you will face the fact they're not perfect. I'll try to make the Arcsys tutorials in a few months, the texturing is arguably easier than the standard texturing. Maybe.

Yeah, about rigging. Mixamo (knowledge supplied by Prii's tutorial) takes the mesh and autorigs the while thing, making the armature and parenting it and weight painting. It got a little fucky for the finger bones, in that it didn't do them, so I figured I'd try to replicate the bones, parenting, and weight painting from scratch before trying to actually change shit. But, on the linking-armature-to-mesh step, the "use automatic weights" just didn't do anything at all, even after rudimentary unfucking of the mesh (fixing normals, cleaning up duplicate vertices, killing loose shit off). So, gotta determine what the next step is after finishing the next revision of the mesh, be it actually making vertex groups for each bone, actually using seams and learning what they are, or whatever else. Not entirely surprised that this is hilariously complicated.

The expressions work well, although the mouth tracking dissapoints me a bit since it defaults to O for pretty much everything. I'll have to test with the settings further. Maybe even make the mouth a tad bigger.

Ok, I'm no rigging expert, but consider parenting the bones and selecting empty groups. This will give you the groups for every bone, and you'll fill them yourself. Also consider doing this JUST on one side. Mixamo/Auto riggers in general have the custom of just not doing this (because it wouldn't work on asymmetrical models I get it) and then models can have wildly different weight paints depending on the side.
What I did is to use a simple basic human meta rig and then worked from there. It took me quite a while but the results were much more -consistent-. Not necessarily better as the auto riggers are not bad under means, but they might fuck up -some- parts and that will bring the whole rig down.
Seams work mostly for UV unwrapping, but they're actually REALLY handy. You set some seams around some part, then use face select mode, and then hover over some face within the seam and press L and you'll grab only what is seamed. It's REALLY useful.
