In general the company makes the arrangements with the artists and manufacturers, and take a fee or a percentage of the sales in return. Common Cover talent get 25% of their merch sales each quarter. The stars get a better percent, probably still not more than 30~40%, but it's not public. In Vshojo all the talent gets 85%. Other companies vary somewhere between those two extremes in general or on a deal by deal basis.

What welve inferred from what they've hinted anf said: the talents have to front up the majority of the costs to get the merch made in the first place thus they get the lion's share. SC and other self aggrandizing forms of support pale in comparison to merch sales. The only exception to this arrangement is official merch like the Race Queen or Sanrio stuff JP gets on the reg and of course the 1Million sub gifts like Mio's hoodie instances, where I can see Cover getting perhaps more than the talent's own milestone merch as the talent likely had much less to do with its creation and have little control over. Recall that the first Shuba duck plush sold so exccedingly well that management asked Subaru whether or not she'd consider handing more made to sell or simply keeping it as a permanently on sale good. She declined.
