I think Gura might be graduating. I think she might be graduating because we found out about that one person.

I don't think you understand how big of a deal the Challenger disaster was. It basically made the US population completely turn on NASA overnight. Every program ground to a halt during the investigation that lasted almost 3 years.
Before that, there hadn't been a major accident in over 20 years and the public's confidence in NASA was unshakable due of the Moon Landings. The fact that one of those killed was a teacher, there as a guest, made the US completely rethink it's space program.
