I've kept a changelog of everything I've done since starting the interactive map, so here's an explanation of what's happened. Disclaimer: there have been other changes from before the interactive map that I would have to go archive diving for, not all of these changes necessarily correspond to in-universe events.
>reverted /who/-/uuu/ borders
The great annexation. /who/ received a considerable amount of /uuu/'s land since the thread was repless at the time and didn't care what happened to it. There was a vote held later which forced /who/ to give the land back and helped set new precedents regarding the treatment of repless territory. /who/ also traded some shoreline with Hoshiyomia (/suisei/) prior to this.
>moved /pyon/ and /wvt/
/wvt/ was originally where /yah/ and the grey spot are today, with /pyon/ originally in /wvt/'s current spot. /pyon/ vacated to get a newly constructed island courtesy of the goddess Kiki herself and /wvt/ moved in to be closer to related threads.
>swapped /fbk/ with /mion/
Self-explanatory, the borders were slightly modified as well.
>added /vrt/ and moved /yah/
/yah/ was originally in /vrt/'s spot before getting pushed to the upper part of ex-/wvt/ to give them the same climate they had requested before the poles got expanded.
>replaced /mion/ with /okfams/, /duck/ with /pagi/, and /corpo/ with /aa/
RIP dead threads. These nations used to be on the map before being replaced with something more active.
>changed nijikr to /kr/
Name change to reflect thread, may have lore implications.
>replaced /rose/ with /obsy/ and /nijiid/ with /warkop/
Perhaps too hasty in hindsight since the former came back and the latter went through even more changes in identity.
>added /ehe~/
The only of ID3 to get put in currently, mostly because they had a rep wanting to write for them. Their territory was carved out of /bakatare/.
>added /nenmen/
Taken from /nijien/.
>changed niji and /pcg/-/clg/ borders
Niji stuff was just an overhaul, likely a retcon. The other change was due to chuubas changing corpos and the nations being neighbors.
>renamed rushia to /rumina/, /clg/ to /aeg/, and /obsy/ to /rose/
It got renamed to /mikeneko/ first, but then immediately had to be changed again. Current lore is unclear but they've been through a lot. More cosmetic name changes to reflect the actual threads.
>picrel
The map before these changes.

Notice how peaceful the thread is without the narcissist niji here? Toxic guy that writes good lore. Should just lore post and dip, as his opinion on everything sucks and he has to be right, to be in every conversation, to respond to everyone, to defend his nijifriends, and to threaten other for his ego. He just earned himself another anti, this one being a writer here. Fuck him, and fuck anyone who makes excuses for him saying he is sweet, knowledgeable and works hard. The latter is true, the two others are not. He treats everyone like shit and shits on others, like OGsuner and Retroanon all the time. Whoever brought him in deserves to be included in this as well for bringing this cancer into the thread.

Owlright to clear things up: In universe there would be quite a lot of disdain towards /inf/, people are not too fond of both kronies and infinitopia. While a kronie might be able to befriend a hooman they would usually be treated with apprehension first. This reaction is both the result of /inf/'s culture which The Owl Republic's citizens regard as corrupting and degenerate; and the practice of disparaging the nameless one, which regardless of how often it happens now or before, formed a quite negative image of the island's inhabitants.
For NjiEn, there WILL BE NO WARS. That short story I wrote was purely based on that one dream the nashag kronie had, and I had a big damn banner on top which says it's NON-CANON. Also if you remembered correctly it happened BEFORE the thing happened. For the twitter bullcrap in universe it's mostly schzios and dramafags just like what happens on the real life board. There's no reason to declare war or invade because there's nothing to invade or fight over for this nothing burger. Just another day on the schzio rampant hellhole of a planet of Vitubia.

Forgot to add but while there's bad blood there would also BE NO WARS with /inf/. How it actually works would depend on how the politics lore turns out, but unless there's something happened that really put a dent in the bilateral relationship or a great shift in geopolitics that somehow intensified the rivalty vis-a-vis /inf/. And yeah, no adding land since we already had anons do a ton of work for figuring out climate, currents, tectonics, etc. that other threads base their lore off of. That's a good question! I'm thinking in the warmer south, it's mostly stone homes - remnants of the Great Winter - The richer familes, owner of industry and farmland, have bigger and fancier homes made from wood, flaunting that they have the wealth for better heating - again, a remnant of the Great Winter. The homes usually have round or dodecagonal windows with clock motifs.

Up in the north, nearly everything is stone or log cabins, with few decorations but flags or banners depicting a region's flag and a symbol of the faith. Some say the Great Winter hasn't ended in the north, so it reflects in the architecture. It's mostly military camps, mines, and prisons up there.

What a beautiful document... Some information on Moriji: Moriji is a highly decentralized confederation, municipalities are the governmental entities with the most executive power in the country. Thus, a deal of this type couldn't be fulfilled with the government of Moriji, who has more of a figurehead role.
However, the Black Fleet does have the capability to respect, enforce and fulfill the requirements of this agreement.
I.1.2 Slavery is abhorred as one of the worst of crimes in Moriji. Any kind of human trafficking near Moriji will result in the arrest of the perpetrator, and diplomatic consequences for the member state responsible for it.
I.3.1 The amount of land would need to be purchased by the Black Fleet from a Moriji municipality. This is perfectly doable and was done to allow the creation of Oppia, but the amount of land asked by this agreement should be kept to a minimum.

II.1.1 and II.2 are already the case in Moriji.
II.3 The Black Fleet doesn't have, nor desires the political power needed to enforce this. The municipalities have ability to regulate goods as they desire. Those regulations do tend to be minimal and country-of-origin agnostic, especially in the larger international harbors.

III This is already something the Black Fleet is doing.

IV and V, and all unmentioned items are agreeable.
If the other Founding Members agree to the Agreement after acknowledging those clarifications, Moriji is willing to join this Trade League.

As for I.1.2, It is acceptable but the rule would only apply near Moriji. The black fleet officials wont be executing peaceful human resources merchants who were just relaxing at the nasfaqg mahjong parlours, right? That's right, you'll be speaking with the Black Fleet's current Fleet Admiral, given the scope of this agreement. The Black Fleet could act as an umbrella as you say. The municipalities will negociate in their own name, but the Black Fleet could assist them in fulfilling aspects of the agreement related to naval security.
Also, indeed the Black Fleet respects the local laws of its friends. It's unsavory, but /kfp/ does move some pleasure slaves around, and this is considered an acceptable price for the alliance. The same will go for Black Fleet officials operating in /nasfaqg/ and /inf/.

Wait, Palkyries don't actually enslave people, at least not from raids. The main drive for their raids was/is to secure resources to supplement what's lacking in their frigid homeland, so bringing more people back home would be counterproductive to that. They're probably quite open to people willingly joining them tho (as did pirates during the golden age of piracy)
They probably won't/can't reach far enough to actually bother /morig/ directly, and I think they'll be up for privateering, but I don't know how the other parts of /kr/ would interact with /morig/ (or who exactly will the Palkyries be pirating against)

now this is not related to the trade agreement we have but a different thing but something i had on mind for a bit is the following:

/2434/ strives to invent a lot to make advancements, this would naturally coem with lots of failures or projects that are simply stuck, if /2434/ would be willing to share these informations with the Retro Reich then we could have our workshops also work on these things and any application we find for failed projects or breakthroughs we make in the stuck ones we would in return share with you.

less of a trade agreement and more of a joined research agreement i guess

These three ports will be open to Moriji - the government is currently only opening these three to you, so as to appease our more... scrutinizing members of the senate. Though the isolationist party is willing to concede and promise to allow more to open up more in the future should Moriji prove trustworthy - not that we don't trust you! It's just, well, you know how the old fashioned folk are...

Ahem, as for those three ports:
>red arrow
Saint Kronii, the main commercial port city. It's the only one open to everyone right now, but only Nasfaqg and Moriji will be allowed to build their own warehouses. Everyone else rents storage space from us.
>white arrow
Boros Harbor, a strategic port used mostly for internal transport of goods up the river. Most imports at Saint Kronii are brought to the main island here - having warehouses and the right to trade here will make it easier to trade directly with kronies.
>black arrow
Dockeronii East, one of two twin port cities that ship up the rivers leading directly into farmland. Having your ships and warehouses here will give deadbeats the easiest access to perishable goods from Infinitum. It's also the spot easiest to get to from the south, where Moriji ships are most likely to sail in from.

If only we didn't need 21st century tech. I found lots of uses of iron slag from roads, to cements, to fertilizer. In the bronze age copper slag was used to create green glass and also to glaze pottery. Slag can also be used to create agate glass which was made as early as 1890s to create art pieces. Though I don't know if making slag glass is easily viable with 1750s tools. That said remelted copper slag was made for jewelry in antiquity. It might be possible to make slag glass.

Ah, perfect, this lays it out very well. The Black Fleet will invest in a warehouse near Dockeronii East, make the trips as short as possible. Included in the warehouse would be an office which would be the best place for Kronies to contact the Black Fleet directly, and a messenger bird tower. Hello. If the Melisende author is around, just wanted to let you know I'm finally getting around to writing that feedback I promised I'd give you...an entire month ago, holy fuck. This is going to take a bit since your story is long as hell, but while I go write up the critique on your actual writing, I just thought I'd let you know you have a formatting issue. Dialogue that is part of a sentence should be treated as…well, part of the sentence. It should be separated from the dialogue tag with a comma, not a period. Example:
>"The higher-ups told us off. Said they had it dealt with." He mumbled
should actually be
>”The higher-ups told us off. Said they had it dealt with,” he mumbled
Even when the dialogue ends in a question or exclamation mark, the dialogue tag that follows should still be in lower case, unless it’s a proper noun and would’ve been capitalized anyway.
>"Won't be constabulary be after the case?" She asked
should be
>"Won't be constabulary be after the case?" she asked
This was really distracting, since it interrupts the flow of the text. The piece otherwise being quite well-formatted made it stand out a lot too. You also have a lot of typos, tense switching from past to present and weird grammar mistakes littered around which, again, stand out more in your work than they would in a less well-written piece. Make sure you proofread these before posting. But if you already do then eh, whatever, it happens. Lord knows my posts sometimes look like they’re written in code, with the amount of typos that wind up in them. Anyways, off I go to write that review.

Also if anyone needed me for anything feel free to give me a shout, I have not done my thread reps.

>> No.29979324

No. I never agreed to this. Tarrif free trade is only for Friendly level nations, and I don't have much interaction with the /vrt/ rep to warrant that. /vrt/ can anchor with all the other nations in Saint Kronii, and their goods will be subject to tarrifs. If they want special treatment like the Hololive / Alivian Trade Alliance they can ask me directly. But clockwork is reserved for military allies.

I'm not a fan of retconning things but that should definitely be retconned to at least leave Infinitum out of it. I'm sure Risuners would still hold the trade authority in Demeter to give you guys special treatment on their land without Kronies say in the matter anyway.

You would use a different material for glass works since making slag sand is a pain in the ass pre-20th century. Speaking of glass there's a ton of metalurgy and chemistry that goes into making stained glass. Stained glass is mostly used in churches, temples, and other places of worship. Its too late but it could be interesting for a Sanalite to make stained glass that looks like the night sky. Or in Candy Kingdom there's a stained glass mural of Luna-hime in the main chamber.

Ah... I feel an opportunity to diffuse the situation somewhat.
Kronie, here is a post detailing the terms of this trade alliance:
>>/vt/thread/S29454267#p29458455
This agreement has already affected international events a fair bit, so I would suggest that instead of pulling out of it entirely, you simply retcon the offending aspects of it, mainly the trade of clockwork, and perhaps the bit about the tariffs. The rest of the agreement doesn't seem too offensive, to my eye. This previous Kronii might have value the national security aspect of clockwork less than you.

Also, here is the settlement map for Moriji. Kronie, I would suggest either Gehenna or Acheron be the location of the Kronie installations. Acheron is one of the most active harbors, so you would be close to the beating heart of trade through the Holosea there, especially the traffic headed towards the Niji continent and thus, Infinitum. However, this harbor being so busy means that coastal land comes at a huge premium. If you'd like to build your own docks and shipbuilding facilities, I would suggest instead to get that going at Gehenna. It's less densely populated, so you'll be able to build big there. Also, it's close to lots of stones quarries and mines, which assists construction further.
There is also the possibility of building a shipyard in Gehenna and a smaller warehouse in Acheron.

>> No.29982518

>>29982084
That is a damn good map, nice.
Ahem. Thank you! With all that in mind, I think I'll spring for the suggested shipyard in Gehenna, with barracks and defenses, and a smaller warehouse in Acheron with a smaller attachment of guards. And hopefully we could have offices for Kronie officials in both. What do you think?

Waterproof logs mortared with "plastic" plasters like lime and clay seem like a good start. Limestone is also resiliant to weathering. I talked to Chumbuddy tourist about building houses with limestone so coral can grow on it. Monsoon and tropical plant leaves and reeds are also water retardant. So building grass/leaf roofs that don't get blown away is also an option. Otherwise clay will be your best friend. Clay should be abundant in wet monsoons.

Yes, this will do nicely! You should know, all coastal installations with military capabilities are required to participate in the defense of the towns when schizo raids occurs. This is, er, a relatively common occurrence, especially in medium sized cities like Gehenna. Your boys won't get too rusty. There's also a non-zero chance for a /meat/ raid, though they're getting rarer these days. This might cause a conflict of interest...

Disregard Florida. India, Brazil and the American Midwest seem like good places to start. There's also Taiwan and Vietnam as well. It seems the popular building material are waterproof woods, clay, and plaster. Ceramics are waterproof. And so is dried plaster. As for wood you really want to keep the bark on logs for the exterior. For exposed planks you will need wood-stain made from wax or oil to keep them waterproof. Paint is an option but oil wood stains are much cheaper.

Limestone is fine as a material unless you get acid rain. Chalk is pretty resistant to natural erosion. Linestone's weakness is that it dissolves in acid. At the same time where there's limestone there's clay. So you can use fired clay bricks in structures like wells. Also its better to make chimneys out of cob or bricks instead of limestone.

Ah, I guess a QRD on the effects of our chuubanite would be in order. It has an affinity for minerals, especially those containing carbon or metals. When interacting with lifeforms, it tends to twist their physiological to become harder, for example crustacean shells and animal bones in Moriji tend to synthesize iron-based goetithe in their structure, resulting in tougher and harder materials. If you like, need something to fall asleep to, here is an article recording the physiological effects the chuubanite can have on animals, and likely on fungus as well https://rentry.org/puuqw#biological-anthropology-of-the-deadbeat
As for odd mycological witness accounts, I can think of a few prompts, some high altitude wetlands seem to host corpses that are able to move for days and weeks after the death of the being, possibly related to the /meat/ zombie fungus. In the cold Underworld catacombs, there is this bone-eating lichen that seem to accelerate the process of recycling the chuubanite contained within into the environment. And in the mangroves, there's those mushrooms that grow on steel-shelled crabs, nice bit of symbiosis.
All these are just ideas I had knocking around, feel free to just do your own thing, when you get to it!

ALRIGHT, here’s the actual feedback, as promised. Sorry again for the wait.

First, I just want to say your writing is overall excellent. You have a strong grasp of narrative pacing, and you understand how to set a scene without letting the descriptions overstay their welcome. That being said, precisely because you already have a good grasp of the basics, this review is going to be significantly more in-depth (and thus nit-picky) than the reviews I’ve written for other anons. I hope you won’t be too bothered by the length. Moving on.

You correctly identified characterization as your weakest point. It seems you have a habit of allowing your voice, as the author, to overwhelm the voices of your characters. By this, I’m not referring to the literal way they speak. It’s important to note that a character’s “voice,” in writing, is not determined by their dialogue alone. Their thoughts, actions, behavioral tics – these all serve to inform the reader of a character’s personality. So when I say you allow your voice to overwhelm the characters, I mean you’re allowing your own interests to leak in and overwhelm your characters’ behavior. It’s a problem exacerbated by your tendency to use dialogue purely as a narrative device, characters rarely speaking up unless it’s to directly advance the plot, and speeding through the resulting conversations.

Melisende vividly describes her thoughts during the scene where she’s punching Akira – her apprehension prior to the action, the feel of sinking her fist into Akira’s stomach, the strange and disturbing, somewhat uncomfortable feelings that arise from it – yet their subsequent conversation in the next scene passes by with none of the same insights into her thoughts. It’s a simple A to B sequence of events, described in pretty but nonetheless uninformative prose. Melisende has quite suddenly gone from a living person to an AI running on the default detective module. Might I make the bold assumption that this is, perhaps, your own interest in the beating scene showing through in the much higher level of attention to detail? You would do well to do a little more showing rather than telling in the rest of your writing. Take, for example, the following excerpt:

>Just like before, the lean hand reached for it and delivered it onto the dripping tongue. The relative lack of blood on it, though, did not seem to appetise the abbess.

Simply informing the reader that the lack of blood did not appetise the abbess is a massively wasted opportunity. It is better to describe the abbess’s reaction, giving the reader a glimpse of both the abbess’s personality and, due to the POV, Melisende’s own. There are many ways to express disgust or distaste, but how did the abbess do it in this moment? I get the impression the abbess is meant to appear deceptively childish and playful, given her speech patterns – specifically her sing-song way of speaking, indicated by frequent tildes, and her habit of referring to herself in third person. A character like this might express her distaste in a suitably childish manner, like so:

>Just like before, the lean hand reached for it and delivered it onto the dripping tongue. But shortly after, the abbess’s nose scrunched up as she spat the emblem back out, letting it drop onto her open palm. “Bleh,” she complained, swiping at her tongue with the back of her other hand. It seemed the relative lack of blood did not appetise the abbess.

(cont in next post, I passed the character limit...)

>> No.29994963

>>29994924
Now, I said earlier this was also a wasted opportunity to show off Melisende’s personality. Why is that? Before we even take a proper look at Melisende’s response, let’s look at your word choices in describing the abbess’s actions.

>The relative lack of blood on it, though, did not seem to appetise the abbess.

This is a really bland statement. When writing in limited third person, ideally, you should allow the POV character’s thoughts and feelings to color the text. How does Melisende feel about Akira at this point in the story? I couldn’t rightfully tell you, because the only action she’s taken so far that would tell us one way or another is her distrust of the tea Akira poured her earlier on, which is really just common sense caution, given the circumstances. But from Melisende’s next line of dialogue, where she cracks a small joke, perhaps we can assume she’s at least somewhat entertained by the current turn of events. So, let us edit the last line to show it, like so:

>Just like before, the lean hand reached for it and delivered it onto the dripping tongue. But shortly after, the abbess’s nose scrunched up cutely as she spat the emblem back out, letting it drop onto her open palm. “Bleh,” she complained, swiping at her tongue with the back of her other hand. Amusingly, it seemed the relative lack of blood did not appetise the abbess.

See how much more character this one action now has, compared to the original excerpt. Now let us go ahead and move on to Melisende’s actual dialogue in this scene:

>"Not a fan of it, Akira?" The detective asked half-jokingly. Maybe it was the lack of iron in its taste. Unfortunately for Akira, the blonde had no plan to turn out her bloody pockets. "I found it in the deadbeat's hand. It doesn't look like something from their island, so maybe it belonged to the killer."

This is what I mean when I say your dialogue is used purely as a narrative device. Melisende makes a single, off-hand one liner and then, with no response whatsoever from Akira, it’s immediately back to the business of advancing the plot. I’m not saying you should linger on a conversation for multiple paragraphs, but turning these kinds of conversations into…well, actual conversations – with some manner of exchange between the characters – will go a long way to giving your characters more personality. You could easily insert a small reaction from Akira without bogging down the pacing much, like so:

>>"Not a fan of it, Akira?" The detective asked half-jokingly. In response, Akira shook her head vehemently, puffing out one cheek in a childish pout. Maybe it was the lack of iron in its taste. Unfortunately for Akira, the blonde had no plan to turn out her bloody pockets.

These kinds of little exchanges do very little for the narrative, but they serve to better frame your characters, giving them a bit of life. I’m going to stop here instead of breaking down the entire rest of the story because I haven’t even covered half the story at this point and this review is already reaching ridiculous lengths. I’ve covered the important points, anyway, and I hope this has offered you a bit of insight on how to make your characters feel a little more distinct.

Tl;dr you tend to place a massive focus on stuff “happening,” skipping over the smaller, introspective details necessary to properly demonstrate a character’s personality.

Thank you for the feedback!

Sorry for asking you to go through my writing given how long-winded it often ends up being, especially in light of the formatting and grammatical issues I have that's mostly my ESL leaking, as a lot of those errors aren't a thing in my native language. I hope it isn't too big a burden. I did try my best to proofread my writing before committing, but I guess these things have a habit of slipping past spellcheckers.

It's nice to know that I at least have enough self-awareness to see my weakness, and your pointers and examples on how to mitigate the issue will be immensely helpful! You're also right in your observations, both in my habit of having things happen mostly for moving the plot from point A to point B (I think I even mentioned that when I talked about how I write my story back then), and that the more... colourful moments are often when I'm indulging in what's happening in the story myself (which is why those tend to be /meat/-oriented moments, I suppose). I'll keep that in mind as best as I can.

I'll probably go through my writing to correct some of the more obvious mistakes when I can, which will hopefully make the experience less gruelling for you and other potential readers. I might not be able to rewrite the more structural issues concerning characterisation and the occasional plot holes, but I'll remember to keep those in mind when I write in the future.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and suggestions. You're more articulate than I am, so don't worry too much about the length. If all else fails (especially given how the spam detection on this board is performing recently), you can always use rentry for posting.

Yeah, I kind of figured. But I also figured anyone directly giving me a (you) to ask for feedback would probably rather know if it was bad enough to be distracting. It's good to hear the tips were helpful, and I look forward to seeing your future work!

This anon >>29998703 is correct, but probably not in the way he thinks. Over in /nijien/, whenever Mystakes start writing ryona fic or Comfydants start posting amputee/guro art, the maleanons start losing their minds, like it's the worst thing they've ever seen. They don't even react this strongly to the actual gore photos the goreschizo regularly posts. Meanwhile, over in /nenmen/, those kinds of posts are usually just met with other anons joining in with their own fantasies. It's amusing, since often these conversations are going on alongside some other fanbase's conversations about fluffy domestic bliss with their oshi. My conclusion is that straight maleanons are weak.

I'm into girls. Also I really don't like self-proclaimed femboys and trans.
to me, once they've done that, they have relinquished their human rights and have become nothing more than living onaholes and guro meat. Only deserve to be treated like the slaves in JM's body horror books

>plus I prefer to be the one doing it on someone else heh
i consider myself a sadomasochist, i enjoy both, but i enjoy either more from the context of the other. i want to be able to imagine how the other person is suffering while also feeling like i'm in complete control of the extent of their suffering, so i sometimes make myself suffer to imagine what the other person would feel in the situation i put myself through. it makes it better if you have the right mindset, and if you are into it, of course.
