MaiR is a good singer and an excellent entertainer. I just wish she wasn't so infatuated with her soundboard when she's doing karaoke stream. She's much more in her wheelhouse with high energy idol pop or rock songs then ballads, but she's able to sing next to people Rikka without sounding out of place which shows that she has genuine talent and skill.

I took some budget in-ear headphones for a day of traveling. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. Noa Polaris' lower notes, for instance, became some indistinct jumble, and I could mostly only hear her belting (treble boost probably), so it became quite tiring to listen to. Live singing, well, is kinda a mixed bag. Her voice lacks smoothness. Vibrato is minimal. Yells for volume instead of resonance (Suisei, QuonTama). So the voice sounds rather plain. But again, the studio covers sound okay. Higher production value than average.

You can see the biggest difference in how close they are to the mic. Lisa is almost kissing the pop filter the entire time, while Aimer is much more powerful and capable of projecting so she can space herself more so the breath isn't as loud in comparison. There's certainly a skill/talent component as well, but I'd say the biggest thing is simply how good your are at projecting.

Now for the drawback: the execution of specific songs. For instance, in Pretender, she chose to sing staccato where it would be better as smooth (à la Noa), and in some songs, she would omit vibrato where there should be more (especially in the lower notes). So it would end up feeling plain compared to the competition. Even if you know the techniques, you still have to apply them. As it is, her performance can be inconsistent and song-specific.

One quirk: because her high notes are so loud, if you try to normalize the audio you would not be able to hear the lower notes properly. 2 songs in the same session could have wildly different ReplayGain because of the high notes in one of them. Rather, you should turn up the volume so you can hear the lower notes clearly.
