I believe that the general consensus is that the genki I and II plus Anki, wanikani, or basically any spaced repetition program that fits your preferences is good enough to get you to n4 (n5 being the lowest and n1 the highest) with a really good base for continuing up the levels.

For reference, n1 is fluent, n3 is conversational, and n5 is being able to ask where the toilet is.
