For /ahoy/, I don't disagree on that front of separating from JPs, but it was already fairly far distant from them in the first place, and their placement initially is like /nasfaqg/ of wanting to be a seafaring nation in that area.
For watamelon, I think you could easily write some interesting dynamics about arctic watermelons making them premium compared to others, than just a generic fancy watermelon farm, so I don't think it's that big of an issue, but I do acknowledge your point about it, and that was my biggest issue in my own proposal.
As for /wg/, I've been there so I get why you would want to since I've seen her prominence there, but as I stated, it feels very weird to have /fbk/ and /okfams/ separated from them due to the Fubuki shared there. And while I personally was never a fan of placing nations on the globe depending on their relation to their neighbours, I know that others might not agree with me.
But if I were to give an in-world reason for our placement, it would be the result of a possible "grand migration" of alchemists and scientists from all over the holocontinent in millenia past, due to presecution from their home nations. Alchemy guilds would be the ones holding control over their respective territories, the guildmasters of which would be members of the central government aka the Magistrate(name pending). The relations of guilds are complex, with rivalies and alliances popping up all the time, but generally they each do their own thing and focus on their own research and governing their own territory. They do all consider each other brothers, however, and open wars between guilds never happen. Going from that, they will all put their rivalries aside and fight together if an outside force threathens them.
General populace are just normal humans though, even if they all generally use some sort of simple alchemy (you have to really delve into it to be considered an alchemist) in their daily lives. Heck, toy golem making is a favourite passtime of children in /mag/.

Should be but you also need to consider the history of trade in Vitubia. While the ocean current going up would help nations in the southern tip of the Holo continent and Niji continent trade with the countries in the North West Holo continent, the Holo Sea would be way more profitable. But that would depend on how the Niji reps plan on writing their lore regarding interaction trade. So in theory having it in the West would be better. Though I guess an in universe reason on why they choose to settle on the East coast is due to the aforementioned prosecution. Here is why I think /mens/ should be carved out of stars ideally

But the gist is that for (land) petroleum deposit to form, you'll need some degree of folding (basically the tectonic plate being wrinkled due to pressing against each other), where the oil can seep up and be trapped in more accessible places. That means they'll likely be near relatively new-ish mountain ranges and/or oceanic ridges. The most notable examples of these include the Ghawar oil field in Saudi Arabia, and multiple smaller oil field in Californian coast - in fact, Los Angeles pretty much sits on one.
Compared with that, coal is somewhat less dependent on geologic folding to form, since they're basically dead plants being buried and slowly cooked into chunks of carbon. However, because of said cooking process, some degree of geologic activity can speed up the process, increasing the carbon context (and thus quality) of the coal in question. That's why anthracite - the highest quality coal - tend to be found in mountainous places like the Appalachians.
The gist of that is that compared with climate, fossil fuel formation requires some geologic activity, although not too active lest they be destroyed by volcanism. That's why a while back I suggested that /2434/ likely won't have a significant oil or high quality coal deposit, since it doesn't have any significant geologic folding or oceanic trench near the coast. For the land in question, I would say coastal Lazulight might have some oil fields (and tar pits, like the redundantly-named La Brea Tar Pits). Western nijiEN, northern /rose/, and some parts of /haha/ might have decent coal deposit, although I would say /haha/ is probably richer in metal due to likely frequent volcanism.
Be noted that low-quality coal like lignite is relatively common, although they're, well, kind of shit. Peat is a similar carbon-rich substance that is useful for heating and agriculture, which is more common in (sometimes former) wetlands.
