I was crying earlier while watching my vsinger oshi sing. She sang beautifully as usual but then I slowly figured out while listening that her night singing streams are all I have going for me at the moment. I have a job, decently paid but I basically work alone and my focus on work and everything means that everyone I used to know has either drifted away,

I am in a symbiotic relationship with Reddit and Twitter. Every time my creative writing exercises get reposted there, I go through the comments and pick the angriest or most appalled posters. Usually I don't have to go through all that many comment histories before I find something that inspires my next short story. Not limited to /vt/ of course, but vtuber haters tend to have certain spicy hypocrisy about them as the ones who care enough to post about their disgust are still nerds and have awfully similar hobbies they're obsessed and in denial about. Lots of low-key misogyny too that's hiding underneath a seemingly neutral and matter-of-fact language, but word choice and emphasis on certain stuff (like daddy issues) they keep circling back to reveals mommy issues and that it's not about vtubers or e-thots in particular, it's about (succesful) women in general. Really helps writing unreliable narrators in first person that are creepy but don't know it.

I can't feel anything anymore. I used to be addicted to mastubating but now I can't even get an erection. I've recently tried sticking things up my ass hoping that I'd get some of the feel back but to no avail. It literally just feels like I'm taking a shit backwards, I didn't even get hard. I feel less and less from vtubing. Part of it is liking streams a bit less, part of it is not liking at all the direction in which things are going. I also sometimes wonder if I should have invested myself more in the "community", and taken this as an opportunity to meet some new people. Instead, I mostly stayed on the sidelines here. It's a bit sad because there were 2 communities before where I participated a bit and got some lifelong friends out of it. That was when I was younger, and while I thought I was wiser now, it seems I'm just more jaded and afraid of other people.

This is a long one, it's been on my mind, and the OP image specifically reminded me of it. Although no one will probably understand what I'm talking about, I need it off my chest.

The artist for the OP image is from an artist called STARFOX1015, remember this name, it'll become important later. Him and a bunch of others were part of an early Korean vtubing community called the "Kizuna Ai Gallery" on DCInside. It had been around for some time before Hololive became really popular, but back then the KR scene for vtubing was non-existent.

Around the time I came around, Nijisanji KR had just debuted their 2nd Gen. NijiKR had a pretty bad history, and around the time I joined the community the Moarin incident was still happening, and so NijiKR numbers were in the toilet.

A little while after NijiKR 2nd Gen debuted, there was an incident where a bunch of trolls mass disliked one of the new debuts, Chae Ara. One of the people who were a part of the trolling brigade was STARFOX1015. Back then he was a somewhat infamous nakiricuck janny who deleted any posts that criticized Ayame, and there was a rrat that Ara was a community member who shit on Ayame a lot, so that might have been one of the reasons why he did what he did.

Regardless, things were a struggle back then for KR vtubing in general. My saviorfagging instinct kicked in, and I told myself that I would try to spread KR vtubing to outside audiences, that way they would be more protected from a few of those weird self-hating Korean antis. It was around that time that I came to /jp/ to shill Ara specifically, but I also shilled a few others too. This was before /vt/ was created and before I knew who Ara really was.

I watched as NijiKR who struggled to even get 20 viewers when they began, grow continuously until a hundred and even a thousand viewers were within their reach. In some sense, I think it was the true idol experience. In the sense that I rooted for their growth and success and it made me happy too when they succeeded. I've been applying to every job that I can handle without losing my mind and I've only had one interview. I thought I was hired, but they wanted to do a background check first and I haven't heard from them in a week. It only lasted for so long. Things started to go to shit when Yuya and Bora both graduated. At the time I didn't understand why, eventually though it turned out Ara was not a very good person, and had been playing workplace politics to fuck over all of the NijiKR members. Eventually this got bad enough that it lead to around 7 simultaneous lawsuits being filed against her, but since she had management in her pocket there was nothing that could be done. Graduations became frequent.

Things only got worse until fucking Nijisanji heard the news way too late and decided to completely do away with the KR branch. The ID branch was also caught in the crossfire, the IPO certainly didn't help.

And despite supporting Ara, she never stopped fucking people over. To the point of sending Anycolor lawyers against the very community that had supported her.

Nijisanji left the market, but Hololive, specifically HoloEN then took it's place. Most of these new fans knew little about vtubing. Vtubing = Hololive in their eyes. Perhaps it's better that things are that way, considering the way Nijisanji treated KR. However, some of them are obnoxious though. Not much different from the initial flood of Western fans that entered when Myth first became a thing. And the way they made excuses for certain Holos like Kronii, never sat well with me, so I moved unto the KR indie scene.

Things weren't much better in the indie scene. This is where that STARFOX1015 guy comes back. There was a indie corpo called KOITEN that I really liked. He played a huge part in blowing it up. Now he gets to get away scot-free with pulling that shit, and most people post images none the wiser. There were also too many other yabs involved to list, and each of those would require their own separate explanations anyways.

It wasn't all that bad in the indie scene. There were a few good ones that made it. A few bad actors too, but that's a given in any market.

Ultimately, I'm not sure if I got anything from vtubers or vtubing. Not even sure if I enjoy it anymore, but I still visit a lot of communities out of habit. One day I hope I can rid myself of that and finally be free of all this.
