A) Kicked before debuts
B) The reasons for the kick probably soured their opinion of her

back then, they didn't have the system of "get to know eachother behind the scenes" before debut. gen 1 and gen 2 members have talked about this in the past.
Mel was even more "distant" compared to the rest of Gen 1, she was supposed to be a Gen 0, but was pushed to fill Chris' spot. That's why she debuted like, a half month before the rest of Gen 1
