Hololive saw that NijiEN males were popular. So they decided to try and copy them with cheap ripoffs. The designs and even the logo are a departure from what they've done in the past, in order to copy the success of the Nijisanji males.

The only issue they are dealing with is that their fanbase is all unicorns. So debuting males is a big problem and drives people away from their company. So part of their viral marketing campaign is trying to limit this damage as much as possible. Which is why you are referencing it in your post here. I don't know about shills, but there was definitely a mood shift when Nijis debuted their EN males. When stars were rolling out their 3Ds, last year, it was constant bait threads to shit on them. The common notion was holoEN not getting support from management, which I agreed, while the stars got 3d models and merch. Either way, I'm glad StarsEN are getting a better reception than what I originally thought.
