What do you think constitutes a good model? In reality, it comes down to me redesigning the entire original concept due to me thinking it wasn't unique enough. Is Iron Vertex considered the standard of "good", or something original that isn't just "anime girl/guy no.8790654"? I don't really see a whole lot of creativity when it comes to models now. It looks to follow a set formula. I've seen a handful that try to be different (a skeleton that doesn't have eyes or anything like that to name one), and there's also Aspen to name another, even if her eyelashes bother me.

In the end I know that streaming relies more on personality and charisma, but the common consensus here seems to dislike outside-the-box thinking when it comes to models. I'm probably wrong though since I don't come here often, and mostly come here to look for other chuubas to watch that aren't Hololive.

Yeah I browse but not as much. I am pretty good at networking though and most of the people in my chat at the time weren't fully aware of Rose even if I have mentioned her before as the reason I got into vtubing along with neko. Most of my viewers are from different network groups.

My starting viewers from the raid was lower than my average as it was my first late night just chatting stream but if I'm good at anything it is shilling people and networking.

You also have to remember that this won't be the last time that Rose raids someone.

I kinda see it, but thats the difference between the world of someone like Nina and people in /asp/ looking for the instant success, best design and the most appealing of voices. I've been following Nina quite closely, not as an oshi but someone who has been gaining more and more success without streaming that much and you can easily tell she isn't into vtubing to "make it". I imagine for people who are in it for the success, it can be quite insulting. Coronas end is on the horizon too, and its definitely going to impact vtubing - especially on the indie scene. I set my streams to private and unlisted so I can have zero people watching me and then I don’t ever make it public. Streaming and letting the vods be saved on YouTube or Twitch lets me have personal recordings of my gameplay. I play games better if I know I can watch the gameplay back later. Partners have guaranteed transcoding. Affiliates and peasants have de-prioritized transcoding. Basically, if you're not partnered you only get transcoding if Twitch has spare server capacity and you get lucky.
Transcoding in this context means your stream has a toggleable quality, ie your viewers can switch between 1080p, 720p, 480p and so on.
If your stream does not have transcoding your viewers can only view in the quality you stream. For many people, 1080p streams are too heavy because of third world and American internet speeds, so affiliates often stream in 720p to remain accessible.

Vtubers allow anyone to be an idol. But some people don't want to be idols, they want to be idol management. The incredibly stupid "if it's not a disposable hobby with no investment then you MUST be number 1" comes from that. If you imagine them the way they imagine themselves, as high-powered businesspeople in suits talking on bluetooth headsets in public because every minute they're not making money is a wasted minute, some of the crazier statements at least get contextualized.

Nobody's saying not to succeed, or not to cover your investment. It is an expensive hobby, so trying to offset the cost just makes sense. But for a lot of people, it's more on the level of accepting commissions from your friends for mini-painting or occasionally entering a local fighting game tournament with a cash prize, not opening up a resin plantation or quitting school to compete in esports.
