I've been thinking about quitting recently. there are people who are basically unavoidable when interacting with this community that I'm not sure I want to be around anymore

Have you ever watched a chuuba with few viewers? It's really not that hard or as depressing as you imagine it to be.
Caleb and Paperbag were there not too long ago. Sure they can get an audience of over 10 viewers now, but of course they started in the single digits. Woyde has no problem with numbers because he's just happy holding a lecture on things he's passionate about. Ari and Haru, the two other africats, usually sit at below 10 viewers, but they make it work because they can hold a conversation with the viewers they have. Aspen is perfectly entertaining just rambling to herself, but even she's starting to pick up viewers. Gobbie Lynne can ramble about recipes and sandwiches with like the five viewers she regularly has.

All you need is to be passionate about something. If you can't just talk to yourself for hours, then vtubing isn't for you. You have to be prepared and comfortable with being alone for a while before the viewer interaction kicks in, because even with 20 viewers you might just have 5 or fewer regular chatters.

Hmmm maybe I conflated this post and the one responding to it, I probably should walk back that it's "totally wrong". I guess my issue is the definition of making it. There are people with 60-80 average who are able to go full time on this. And some of the lower numbers are kinda skewed, people don't give enough attention to how hard it is to build your initial community because they are so used to the /here/ buff. second, being known for karaoke is not a bad thing. It can be a gateway skill to retain and build your audience. There is at least one vtuber in this thread that does this once a month.
Third, playing games you are interested in helps bring your character out, so its not necessarily bad. Play the games you want or you can just stream apex like 99% of the community. There is no right answer, no matter what people might tell you.

I actually enjoy my jobs outside of this. Believe it or not but there’s fulfillment in making people laugh and connect with others. Vtubing has been a good creative outlet for me who’s felt like a outsider in every social circle I’ve been in for my entire life.

Spooki drama boils down into three camps:

Camp 1: One guy falseflagging as a Spooki fan and obnoxiously pushing discussion about him in order to build up resentment among thread regulars. I have seen this same guy pull this schtick half a dozen times over the last few months with other chuubas who had controversy in one way or another, its an obvious tactic to harm reputations.
Camp 2: Those who are annoyed at Spooki for being obnoxious in chats and cloutchasing, plus the weird skeb art stuff.
Camp 3: Schizos who smell blood in the water and are playing off camp 1 to fuel the fire.

Spooki's actions should be judged removed from the context of these threads and the discussion that goes on here, because there is obviously an element of bad faith actors trying to steer the conversation. This does not mean his actions are in any way justified or excusable, as I personally feel he is arrogant, has a horrible attitude about the medium, and is very unlikeable, but don't let shitposters sway your opinion. Judge him on his words and actions, not narratives.
