Sana didn't take the job seriously and slacked off for long stretches of time. She only came around to stream when a new game that she was interested in came out, binged it, and then fucked off again. I don't hate her but she wasn't a good fit for the job because she completely lacked any sense of professionalism. Cover was extremely generous to give her as long as they did to get her shit in order, and she clearly either couldn't or wouldn't. How many weeks could YOU skip work before you got fired? And yes, the difference between her and Ayame is that, somehow, Ayame still has a huge dedicated fanbase and brings big numbers and lots of money when she streams. When you work for a business, both your overall performance and your ability to show up and do your job are very important factors. She was lacking in both. Council's failure is principally due to trying to have a second myth. Sana was supposed to be another Ina, like Kronii was supposed to be another Mori, Baelz another Kiara, Fauna another Ame and Mumei another Gura.

The problem is that Myth was as successful due to unique talent generating a great first impression at the right time. You can't reproduce it by simply copying a basic scheme of deep voice lady, artist, Japanese speaker, meme girl and content streamer. The best thing they could have done was to introduce vtubers that didn't form a unit but instead tried to fill those niches Myth didn't already. That's why, to me, Fauna is absolutely the best thing Council has, because she's the one that feels the most her own and nothing about her feels forced.

I really feel bad for them though. This happened through no fault of their own.

The design of the gen wasn't terrible IMO, what is very different about Councils are that most of the Myths basically had their backs to the wall IRL, didn't really have good options (besides only Ina basically) and -needed- HoloEN to be a success for their own sakes/futures. So their motivation to actually take this all seriously and closely work on lionizing their gen and Hololive and riding the hype wave was all part of that - they are/were very very motivated and also were guinea pigs in an untested branch, so hit the ground running on all cylinders for maximum chance of an uncertain success.

Council came in already knowing it's gonna be success for them, it's no mystery. Also in stark contrast, it seems none of them, not a single one, seemed to be as desperately -needing- Hololive as the Myths physically-actually needed this to succeed or they're practically out on the streets or flipping burgers. You don't get that at all from Council. Rather they're a bunch of normalfag girls who just took advantage of the opening knowing it's a lottery ticket, and didn't really put in huge effort after they got in, getting in was the goal, but not being a stellar Hololive member because they didn't need to prove the worth of the branch. So their overall zeal for this just feels way lower. This was reflected in Sana a lot but most of the councils have had slow patches somewhere by now, but this started happening really really early, only 3 months in for them. It took over a year for Myth to start separating out and going through significant pauses.

It sucks Sana's leaving but her apathy for this whole thing was pretty apparent already since last October. She just doesn't need Hololive, doesn't feel attached to it for saving her ass because her ass did not need saving. The "Yagoo's House of Broken Girls" thing is because girls who really-really need Hololive to turn their lives around truly fucking appreciate being given the opportunity and love being there and love Hololive for it (and by extension may like their fans more). You can see it in the random dirt poor indie girl streaming 6-7 days a week on twitch hoping to make it big some day, that someone like that might actually be thankful to get into Holo. Sana as far as we can tell was simply invited in and didn't need the money and never had the zeal. So this is all kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy really. Company loyalty is also a big thing in Japan - it is not unusual that once you get a "real" career-track job there, you may well stay in that company for decades or even until retirement if it treats you right. That's not true at all in the West where even if the company was treating/paying you well you may move on if you can find a more convenient job or if you're just bored and have a chance to change track.
