You’ll have better luck guessing cognates and stuff, but tones and sounds that aren’t already in Mandarin are just as hard. With Cantonese it’s because tones actually have to have the right pitch. In Mandarin they just need to change pitch in the right direction. So, like, there’s a high, flat tone in Mandarin, but you can make it “not low” and also not change pitch, and everyone knows what you mean. In canto, there’s a high flat and a mid flat, so you have to make sure those don’t get mixed up with each other.
For Cantonese, I meant I don’t have any easier time with tones than most anons just because I know Mandarin. For Spanish? That trill really is impossible for some people if they didn’t grow up speaking Spanish. I just use a tap and try to get close
