Pretty sure more white people were lynched back in the day in the US than black people. That's just how the law was enforced back in the day in rural areas that didnt have proper police and judges and stuff. And honestly probably most of the time it was a 'just' lynching. so uh... I'm finding myself hesitant to start streaming because I'm not sure how to handle the awkwardness of starting. I'm fully expecting I'm not going to have any viewers at all, possibly for quite a long time and for many, many streams after the first. My rational brain says I should be acting like I do have viewers so I'm not just sitting there in silence on the off chance some one does happen to start watching, but then the shy and very prone to embarrassment side of me couldn't imagine talking to nobody for hours on end without cringing out of my skin. Depends entirely on where you're based.
I'm in the UK, and we have a £1000 free "don't worry about reporting this to the government" annual cap. No tax, and don't need to worry about it in the slightest. But you also can't claim costs on it.
Once you earn £1000.01 (or choose to report if less than that), you can start tax deducting things from it. There's two criteria it needs to pass:
1 - Would a guy on the street think this is reasonable?
2 - Would a government official think this is reasonable?

As a chuuba, you can probably call the model tax deductible. It's got no use outside of streaming. It's sort of like your work uniform, or the cost of buying the floorspace of a brick and mortar. I don't think anyone would think this unreasonable.

Games you play, you might be able to get away with. If you play them primarily on stream, or only play offline to get everything figured out, you're probably okay with, but the taxman might care a little bit.

A new computer?
Absolutely not, unless you use it only for streaming. An ordinary person might think it reasonable, so you probably aren't going to get done for fraud, but the taxman might well tell you that you can't claim, so you owe taxes on it.

But I'm not an accountant. My plan is to set aside £200 if I hit £500 this year, so if I hit the £1000 and then deductible myself back to a loss, then hire an accountant to check over my records, make sure I'm not breaking the law.

Just posting this as something that might help someone else, but I was having problems remembering to speak with a more full, clear voice. What helped me remember was just writing a note with "CHEST" in big letters and just setting that right under my monitor and I've absolutely noticed improvement. I used to have to try and correct myself throughout stream, but eventually it just became habit. I can definitely tell the difference between now and my streams a month or two ago. If there's anything you'd like to remember to do consistently on stream don't be afraid to make a small note of it, it's easy to forget what you wanted to practice in the middle of stream especially if you're trying to keep track of a lot of things.
