Why did you all just stare at the poor intern instead of helping them post the anchors? Anyways.
>>26974181
I like these! Perhaps the church's overall doctrine is only concerned with degree of worship, rather than the specifics? Like, "as long as you love him enough it doesn't matter how." Here are some of my scattered thoughts on Kindred, if you'd like to weigh in on any of them:

-I was going to have Vox serve as a god of love (specifically leaning on the eros side -- perhaps non-kindred generally refer to him as a god of lust?) and fertility. This explains why some are pushing for the pregnancy cult's legitimacy -- while some claim it's just a breeding cult, others say it should surely fall under the purview of a fertility god. The push for legitimacy will likely eventually succeed. (You lot have been spreading at an alarming rate!) Incidentally, Uki would be another god of love, representing agape instead. It seems fitting for Fuuchan, the brother of one god of love, to have married another.

-In terms of appearance, since Kindred are shapeshifters, a lot of them would choose to look more or less like Vox(anne). Because they regard their deity as the absolute pinnacle of perfection, naturally his form is also regarded as perfect. This is part of why they all seem so in love with each other.

-Lineage-wise, because of the shapeshifting thing and an importance placed on family, different family lines have different tattoos -- typically floral sleeve tattoos -- to identify themselves. The tattoos stay regardless of the form a Kindred chooses to take, so you can immediately identify their heritage. This is partially also because of fanart etc in meta tending to give Vox japanese-style flower tattoos even though he doesn't have anything like that in canon.

Lucubs, mostly female because they're stronger.
Yaminions and Mystakes, female. Men are regarded as submissive and in need of protection in these cultures.
Kindred mostly female due to simple gender ratio and men likely being discouraged from such a dangerous profession when they're so incredibly rare.
Briskadets similarly mostly male because of tradwife values.
Others wouldn't particularly care about the gender of their fighters.

I like the idea of Only being concerned with the degree of worship! That seems accurate to the nature of us.
Vox being a god leaning on the eros side makes sense. The pregnancy corruption has been indeed spreading an alarming rate, I think even a ryuguard got corrupted once. It will probably end up as accepted soon. I also like the idea about the tattoos.

Goats would be good prey. Also I can see dragons flying down from mountains into the valley to swoop prey like a hawk, then fly back to the mountains. As for energy expenditure taking off costs more energy than actual gliding. Dragons would have to jump high enough their wings can flap before hitting the ground. This is also why dragons prefer gliding from high places instead of taking off from the ground. Dragons are kind of lazy like that.

So pigs and boars use their noses to not only sniff out food but to also dig. Pigs eat almost anything from leafy greens, to grains, to tubers, to the prized truffle. Truffles apparently have a smell that's like boar testosterone which causes sows to go crazy. I wonder if Rosebutas and Haatons are adept truffle hunters. Mushrooms are great for B-complex vitamins, minerals, a bit of protein, and if you sun dry them vitamin D. Rosestone dried truffles would be an ideal delicacy.

I was actually thinking about truffles as well. It would be fun to have them as a sort of delicacy, especially because they seem to be subterranean in nature. I've put in that Tunnelhogs in particular are adept at digging, so I'm sure I can work the nose into that. Though I don't want Rosebutas to come off as ugly creatures, so I might tweak the nose some to make it more appealing.

I feel he's too brutal for Vox's tastes, given how Vox tends towards romanticism, but Vox would also likely respect the brutal efficiency. He's a literature and horror autist so he might respect the war crimes on a purely theoretical level while ultimately condemning the actions. Kindred anon, what do you think?

On an unrelated note I forgot to ask before. Pomerlane anon, are you alright with the idea of Stargazers delivering most of the Empire's prophecies, and thus having diplomatic immunity from outside scuffles due to their status as oracles? I thought it'd be fitting since Uki is canonically a psychic. Unscrupulous emperors in ages past may have even attempted to annex their territory as a powergrab.

Yeah, I agree, that seems accurate! So, to Pomerlane anon, I would probably characterize Vox like so:
When he first appears before Pomerlane, he puts on a charming mien. He compliments the man on his conquests and his cleverness, describing Pomerlane's innovative war strategies and complimenting what he liked about them. But as he goes on, he describes the slaughter and negative aspects of the conquest more in detail, eventually raising his voice and shouting. It becomes clear he's impressed but extremely disapproving. Perhaps he'd end by offering a final compliment to the man's prowess, but with a warning that no amount of cleverness will save him from a god's wrath if he should overstep his bounds. How seriously Pomerlane takes these warnings is, of course, up to you.

Yeah, so long as Pomerlane clearly has no plans of attacking Kindred I don't think Vox will have a problem with him. He'll issue the warning regardless because he himself knows very well where overconfident self-aggrandizing leads (lorewise, his entire clan was slaughtered by Tokugawa because he refused to bend knee and become part of unified Japan.) But he's also commited plenty of war crimes himself. I think it's overlooked by a lot of people but in Vox's own lore video, it's heavily implied he killed anyone who fell out of love with him and attempted to leave his clan. The man is a demon and he's not fucking around.

Those two and Shu, I suspect. Possibly Luca? Given his sunny personality and love of pranks, perhaps he'd be regarded as a mostly harmless god of mischief. If I was to work his mafia boss lore backstory into it, I'd say he was perhaps originally a god of chaos and disorder whose purpose and worship shifted over time.

I still have yet to read the new chapters because Fuuchan is still streaming. He seems determined to finish the game today but I don't think he's close...
To cover the other boys and their roles as gods:
Alban is chaotic good. He's a god of travelers and trade (and, to some, patron of thieves).
Yugo is chaotic neutral. He's a god of music and regarded as a patron deity of all creative arts.
Uki is true neutral, but with a temper. He has a reputation for disproportionate retribution. He's a god of love and beauty.
Ike is, on the surface, true neutral, a god of literature and scholarly pursuits. But in truth, hidden underground is a temple dedicated to the belief he is a lawful evil outer god with control over time.
Mysta is chaotic neutral, depending on who you ask. He's sweet to those who worship him but his favor is known to be mercurial. He's a trickster god. Similarly to irl trickster gods (and in the spirit of him being a "genius detective") he is also the god to petition when in search of lost objects, or in an effort to detect liars. As a counterpoint to Nina being a luck goddess, perhaps some also regard Mysta as a god of misfortune. Maybe this is the divide that caused Mystakes to split off from Honeys and fuck off to their own country.

The heroic warrior myth still exists. You'd still get tales like this in this age of (relatively) low-intensity warfare. The meaning and such of course changed over time from how wars are fought and combatants recruited. There are way fewer professional combatants nowadays than in the age of knights and their retainers but in the popular mindset for example Spec Ops are still the kind of "heroic fighter". Same as air aces the deadbeat anon mentioned.

A Rosy Babirusa is indeed incredibly cunning, though very physically weak. They have the innate ability to control the wilder Boar Babirusas in a rather parasitic manner. It would be incredibly difficult for a Boar Babirusa to deny a Rosy's command. But the real weakness of a Rosy Babirusa is their ego. They aren't the type to immediately claim victory and will be very thorough if their enemy is a genuine threat to them, but if you make yourself appear weaker then they will see you as weaker. The easiest way to beat a Rosy Babirusa is to trick them into thinking they're better than you and in control of the situation. But you'll have to deal with the Boars either way so... Try not to actually make yourself weak.

The angry letter to the Kindred was hilarious. Some truly creative insults thrown in there! I can't imagine the Holy King would've been too pleased to receive a letter like that, given the many, many blasphemous insults thrown in. The Holy Kingdom likely declared (yet another) holy war over it.

i doubt that would work. personally, if i was writing fight scenes, i would try not to build an opponent us as a super strong, only for the main character to beat them by simply overpowering their strength. if someone was stronger, i would confirm it from the beginning by making note of the advantages and disadvantages each opponent has over each other, and then i would try to think of a win condition that falls in line with those advantages and disadvantages, otherwise it feels like an asspull unless you set the battle up as a question of whose strength is greater, in which case you need to play the struggle of dominance as the main attraction rather than the "who will win" since audiences are already expecting the main character to either win outright, or lose in a non-debilitating way, unless it's one of those series where main characters get butchered left and right.

That's why it might be interesting for Pomerlane. A man who always puts himself in the position of victory, finds that due to that very action the fight becomes far more challenging. But yeah, he'd have to figure out what Babirusas even are first. And no easy win cannon business is allowed, these guys live in woods and caves so good luck moving cannons around.

as a worldbuilding autist, that's really bad story writing. pomerlane is smart, but they have both brains and muscle to match, and according to roseanon, the only exploitable weakness of the babirusas is their ego. so a battle against the babirusas is a test of his ego as well. the fool of the fight is the one who lets their ego get the better of them. if you have to diminish your opponent to make another character look better, you aren't doing either character justice, you'd just make both characters look stupid and poorly written.
you need to set up a compelling test of their strength by being true to both of their strengths and weaknesses, or else their strength is just said, and not shown.

To win, he will do as he always does. Poke around and figure his opponent out. This isnt talked about much but his real skill (as secret histories showed) is scouting. He will find people who have fought them before too. He will know (or at least come close) to knowing what to do when the situation arises. The only problem is if his opponent is as clever as he is when it comes to waging war. As for the Babirusas, I am sure Phantomos will tell him all they know.

I am going to be perfectly honest. I am not enough of a history autist to look up the references you make, though I enjoy when you explain them in the thread. If I could offer some critique, your myth is incredibly sparse on...not detail, exactly. Real myths do tend to have that straightforward quality to them. But it's lacking a certain sense of wonder, I suppose? For what is meant to be a telling of a myth, there's little to no focus on the mythological elements. You could certainly do with some more adjectives, at the very least! I don't think you even once describe the appearance of the goddesses, or the sword, or even the entire other world Pomerlane apparently found himself in! This isn't to say you have to wax poetic about Elira's beauty for three paragraphs or whatever, but a simple, quick identifying word or two when a new character/object of importance shows up will do a lot to add flavor to your writing. For example, when Finana first appears, instead of just immediately saying
>Finana spoke first
I personally might've wrote
>The goddess with hair the color of sunlit shores spoke first,
And I personally also would've probably given the scenery outside Pomerlane's room some outlandish, surreal description instead of outright saying "he's no longer in the land of the living." It's just your usual habit of telling rather than showing rearing up again.

Depends on the country they are from and how they usually fight but I doubt magic-user would be that prevalent in Vitubia. Like magic driven weapons like the Risuner's staffs might be common if that's how they fight but actual mages with training would take a similar role of artillery I'd imagine. Most of the ranks would still consist of normal foot soldiers to protect the mages. Or the mages themselves are calvary/mounted. Then why did people didn't abandon line warfare even as technology like shrapnel shells started to emerge? You'd still need to consider communication, command, and logistics. And what about friendly fire? A tight formation is easier to control and command than a loose one. Also how trained are your soldiers? Can they maintain a fighting spirit and not route in the slightest trouble? The formation might change a bit but relatively tight formation would still be the most common for the general tech level of Vitubia also note that magic is rather limited in this setting. There are many powers gems can perform and I believe I have a list of them. The most powerful ones would be the prismatic bomb of diamonds which of course is super powerful but that takes a while and requires a certain range to use. The grape blaster staffs are basically going to be the magic equivalent of an M1 garand that shoots purple fireballs. numbers are an advantage, it's like adding to a number, compared to strategy which is more like multiplying a number. there is a reason modern warfare is conducted by a handful of people, and it's not just for economic and moral reasons. a large army necessarily has a clumsier intelligence network, there are more valves to pay attention to, and the whole idea of a chokepoint is to reduce the number of soldiers you need to fight at any given time.
big gun is good, too, but in our setting, big gun comes at the cost of convenience. you need strategy to set up a scenario where you can use it.

And unfortunately this has affected lore so much that I have to step back from writing lore. What I have is what I have and there's nothing I can do to change history.

I suppose my feelings are reflected in /nasa/. We lost so much from the crash. And as much as we can try to rebuild it is literally impossible to get the starship back into orbit within one lifetime, let alone three. When the leader closed the station to tell you to touch grass he caused more damage than helped. Sometimes the best thing to do is leave people alone to figure things out on their own. before the thread dies, just wanted to say, on the subject of speculative biology, and bringing back into the discussion the food situation for /meat/ i was thinking of a mushroom that could solve that problem. the idea is that there is a parasitic mushroom or fungus that grows in the bodies of living things that eat it that breaks down if cooked and that causes it's host to feel excruciating pain, causing the release of chemicals such as adrenaline and what not that would make meat taste bad, but the fungus consumes it and grows out of any orifice that the living organism has, including eyes and what not, this doesn't kill them, but it makes living harder for them and also makes them feel like they are really high. the mushroom causes the flesh to take on a more savory, addictive flavor that is somewhat intoxicating in hopes that prey will eat it and continue it's life cycle. the mushrooms that come out of the orifices also release spores that can grow on the ground. if cooked at a certain temperature, it is harmless, but otherwise it can only spread orally. i was thinking /meat/ could surgically attach some mushrooms to the chest of the humans they plan to eat, near the heart so as to be as close to the circulatory system as possible. ideally, this would not only solve the problem we discussed, but flip it on it's head. any thoughts?

In the end I think /nasa/ is going to be stronger from the Principal's mistake. Cass tried everything she could to save the warp drive and failed. The principal got his lesson across /nasa/; just not in the way he wanted. He lost his career and citizenship, but Alex is a much happier man now. /nasa/ is going to have to live without Star Fleet. We're on our own. So we have to change ourselves to adapt to living on this strange world and invest for the future.

Also I have found a way for Alex to keep his bread dog. So he didn't lose everything.

i think you are misunderstanding me. i never said more gun isn't capable of improving strategy. obviously the more options you have, the better, i was just saying that there is such a thing as too much gun, and that strategy is the deciding factor in warfare. if you can't understand this much, you would make a great infantry unit.

Also I'm hoping maybe by some logic bomb Cass can go rogue and break her orders from Star Fleet and tell Alex about the warp drive someday.

I say flesh the idea out more and write a story first.

i don't think we're in disagreement, i am of course using more gun as a very absolute term, but it's in fact a very variable concept, gun in the right place is so very important too, which is why i brought up logistics in the first place, rather than more gun, the concept would be called superior firepower in actual military enviroments. and such cases, the side with more gun, better gun, and numerical and logistical superiority has a strong and undeniable advantage. cases where you might need less gun do exist of course, but with superior logistics one might be better able to place their guns in the right spot. seems to me like there's no disagreement here.

Write a version with upper case letters, and then I'd say yes! Nice bit of worldbuilding. I don't think every piece of lore needs a story attached to it. >>27002043

it is mostly a world building thing, as >>27002086 said, but how would you suggest i flesh out the idea?
