Ultimately, a streamer could do whatever he or she wants if they became famous enough to be self sustaining. At first they need to meet that expectations because they are building that community. But on the later stage, if she became too famous that she could be lazy and their fanbase would depend them as a pretense of being truthful, possibly alienating the original fans. The only difference between these "gifts" and a normal transaction is that there's a time delay. A donator cannot pay the streamer to do anything specific for the amount they have already paid, but they can stop paying in the future.
