i strongly dislike soft magic systems. this is a world building thread, we talk about world building. no room for arbitrary bullshit like divine intervention. if you are clever enough, and technologically advanced enough, you can do anything you want with chuubanite. you shouldn't get that kind of power for nothing.

i don't think either camp ever wants super weapons simply because they would make storytelling boring, pomerlane is cool because it can exist with oldschool battles wich can have interesting twists and consequenses and follow ups instead of "and then pomerlane nuked all of feeshland and everyone was dead, the end" or "and then pomerlane called a massive storm lightning bolting all of feeshland and everyoen is dead, the end"

Well atmospheres makes railgun maintenance worse. And they are bolted to the station because of how much energy they need. Railguns are designed to shoot through hulls of spaceships. They can pierce a line through an army, but the army can regroup and keep on marching with enough numbers. Also if the army is big enough /nasa/ will run out of ammo.

That said spreading disease through the station will be /nasa/ Achilles' heel. You could even infect the principal before he could type in the code. Plus sectors in the station that are quarantined will be completely isolated. Anyone trapped inside the quarantined sectors are stuck there until the disease runs its course. They'll have emergency food and water for up to two months depending on how many people are trapped. Hell the next crisis arc I'm planning for /nasa/ will be a pandemic after Risiner's visit.

Goddamn paragraphsanon, you're so bad at arguing, I 100% agree with you but your argumentation is so unsympathetic it makes me instinctively want to disagree with you.
Pomerlaneanon, just ignore everything the lower case letter posted in the previous thread, here's what's what.
If Pomerlane wants to call down a reasonably sized hurricane, he can do that, the rain shamans of /~ehe/ do something like that. You can leave how that happens vague, and let him attribute it to direct divine intervention in-universe.
Out of universe, we'll know it was probably done by using chuubanite to influence weather systems, because chuubanite is how divinities intervene in the Vitubian realm. It's basically the same thing, chuubanite is just how it's implemented.

I do agree with you, I am not a fan of canonical divine intervention either, except maybe in some rare cases where it is used as a setup for a story, or as a way to give a character a satisfying ending, or if the divine intervention isnt actual divine intervention even though it is written as such (as in, its coincidence or something else, but the characters think it is divine intervention)

I think almost anything we might want a divine intervention to do can be accomplished through chuubanite, because chuubanite can be energized by events in the Heavenly Realm. That's why /Rushia/ exploded. If a story requires something like that, you can just have a chunk of chuubanite be present, and have the divinity pump a bunch of energy through that chuubanite.
There's precedent in that, the chuubanite meteorite Sana donated to the Sanallites so they could make engines to raise the station. This is a divine intervention done with our magic framework. Stuff like calling down weather, or miraculous acts of healing can be done as well.

I personally think it is very different. Religion is sort of considered to be dubious canon, or they are referencing real things (like chuubas). What i mean with the prompt are purely fictional 100% not real things the locals believe to be real.
Not only religion but also other beliefs like local horror stories, or beliefs in flat vitubia, or spirits and monsters that are not real.

I need to figure out /nasa/'s approaches to alien diseases. Allergies already kill us. Who knows what alien diseases Sanalites have no immunity against will do. I guess its up to fate whether or not Sanalites are genetically similar enough to Risuners to fend off the disease. Debating if /nasa/ has already been exposed to the common cold that traveled around /who/ yet or not. /nasa/ does have advantages against disease. We understand microbiology. So we understand we need to attack the virus with the right antibodies. We have medicines to treat almost any symptoms. /nasa/ has the second best nutrition in the world with a variety of produce and recipes. There is no cure for the common cold type diseases. So those diseases traveled with /nasa/. Maybe we have kits to develop vaccines, but that's up in the air. I'll need some help developing /nasa/'s defense against disease that's not too OP.

>unsympathetic
what do you mean by this? if my arguments were wrong, that would be one thing, but saying it's unsympathetic seems to imply that your criticism is over how polite i was instead of the validity of my arguments, not that it's invalid to say that i am coming across in a way that could cause someone less interested in rational argumentation to disagree with me on a purely emotional level.
if he wants to have a chuubanite effect that influences the climate, he would have to think of a mechanism by which he would do so. this would likely take weeks, if not months to deploy, which is a good balancing effect, and given the fact that chuubanite decays when in use, plus the natural tendency of things in the atmosphere to dissipate, it would likely be rather short lived, another natural bit of balancing. lastly it would likely cost a great amount of chuubanite, this might be less of a drawback depending on how much chuubanite a "magical forest" is expected to have, but it still adds to the list.
if he can find a technological means by which to deploy a payload of a certain kind of chuubanite to the atmosphere that would stick around for a while and create the conditions required for a thunder storm, then he could absolutely have his intended effect, but he needs to find the delivery mechanism first. this is the essence of worldbuilding which i am advocating by saying we do world building here. the more we leave to abstraction, the less world building there is for us to work with.
>>26500382
divine intervention is possible in this setting by the mere fact that we have chuubas, and that some of them are /here/, but the extent of their power, and especially the degree to which they are expected to use it, are much more limited than people would typically assume for those who take on the role of gods. i don't think kiki would have gotten her island if we weren't still in the process of hammering out some of the nuances of the map. maybe we could see their power as the ability to direct natural processes over vast periods of time in a more convenient, coincidental seeming way. that's just an idea, though.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying.
The style of story the Pomerlane story is, means that there wouldn't be a long detailed explanation of how the miracle happened. The writer would just say Pomu blessed Pomerlane and the miracle happened.
What we need to do is wonder "Is this plausible within our setting?", and I think the answer is yes. Hell, the hurricane could be a complete coincidence and Pomerlane just takes the credit. That's the nature of this type of narrator.

to say they can't actually control it is to, in effect, retcon a "feat" of theirs. easier to bake into that feat the implied possibility of a natural cause, though i never said they had to go into the minutia. world building is an entirely separate endeavor to storytelling, for while the storytelling might benefit from being set in a well-developed world, the worldbuilding only exists to give that story a well-developed setting. it exists to be in the background, so when writing stories, i don't expect anyone to talk about the intricacies of chuubanite, or how it all works. i just want it to work when we do start asking what's going on in the background so that future storytellers have some concrete ground to work with.

still going with location, but the location just decides what the natural affinity of chuubanite is. you can still use your chuubanite elsewhere, though the magic quanta interpretation implies that affinities can decay over time, independently to the decay of the substance itself.
as for chuubanite connections, it has always been threads. there are multiple threads with no specific chuuba or group of chuubas that still get chuubanite effects.

On one hand, this day had been incredibly interesting and educational to Professor Marsh. On the other hand, this was the eighth resource extraction company he had visited today, with Lead Engineer Kenichi Magnus and a handful of his subordinates in tow. And he was beginning to feel the mental strain.

“My friend, Puffison, a project means materials, and materials mean suppliers. If our ships are made of rotten wood and porous steel, Shige will never let me hear the end of it. So yes, I want a list of every wood, iron, copper, coal, cord, textile and tar producers or manufacturers in Menthora. I want to verify the products while I’m there in person.”

At first, Puffison was happy to come with and help smoothen any cultural differences that could arise in Kenichi’s merciless negotiation style, but he quickly found himself simply standing there while the gaggle of engineers piled on endless questions on the poor Lunaito entrepreneurs.

“What is your production capacity? Do you have material specification data sheets? Is this steel certified as per HOS 12.373? What is the chuubanite content of this wood? What do you mean, it hasn’t been quantified? Do you have the logistics to deliver orders to Gelanora? Do you make bronze in this foundry? Is that candification contamination on the metal? What is the carbon content? Can you produce bronze sheets instead of tubing? What is the dimensional tolerance on thickness? What’s the composition of this alloy? Can you pre-anneal this stock? Has this tar been used for ship waterproofing? What is the defect occurrence in those ingots? Are your tallest trees long and straight enough to make masts? Do you only have linen, no cotton? How much per ton of coal? What if it’s a 100 ton order? Do you accept gold for payment?”

And on, and on, and on, and on… Marsh had spent time with less mind-numbing schizos. Still, they came out of those meetings either with a good contact, a certainty that it was best to avoid this supplier, or a deal signed in ink. Among others, wood and steel shipments would begin leaving Menthora for the Gelanora base before the expedition even reached its destination.

***

Ten visits, the Princess preserve him. And Kenichi planned on doing four more tomorrow before the party left the city. ‘Be strong, Marsh. Do it for the Himedom.’ A heavy, calloused hand clapped his shoulder. “A good day of getting shit done, Puffison. We make a pretty good team, huh? We had those snake oil tradesmen shaking in their boots, hah! Now boys, how about a beer? First round’s on me!”

While cheers rose from the poorly socialized Deadbeats around him, the professor could only despair: ‘I should have stuck with Akira for today...’ The group entered a bar while a squad of Deadbeat sailors jogged their fifth lap of the city block behind them, mist leaving their mouths in controlled breaths.

Maybe it'd be better to remove it until quilldren anon comes back...
On another note, would you like to take over writing for Vox's kingdom? You can have any of the other boys you'd like aside from Fuuchan, too. I've got quite a bit of stuff written up already but I also do not write anywhere near fast enough to be adamant about being the sole rep for 10 chuubas.

When /nasa/'s civil unrest arc comes to and end then so will real time events. I'm expecting the /nasa/-/uuu/ story to take place during late summer and early fall. Risuners arriving to /nasa/ will take place in mid to late summer.

If /nasa/ is north enough to have six months of night/day then the question is where in /nasa/ does it start? I think it starts north of the wetlands but I'm not sure.

The two Guardians are going to be on the left and right of where everyone is, but about 60 meters away. They stopped moving at the same time Iuno did.

That's... A really good question actually, one I've never really thought about. I'd imagine they'd grow up in a pretty unique way. Since their faith in Rosemi is taught and not grown, they might end up being a sapling in nature. Rosebuta changes like turning Babirusa would instead take place if they were to go against Fauna instead of Rosemi, if raised like a sapling. A /uuu/-born Rosebuta could make for an interesting story piece, actually. But I think you're mainly speaking in terms of how the forest would affect them so...
One thing to note is that, compared to a normal plant, all Rosebutas are born malnourished. The growing isn't that great in /rose/, after all. In many cases this is why they need to feed on additional resources upon birth. For a Rosebuta to grow in /uuu/, from what I've seen, it would be like a constant stream of superfoods. The plant's rose would be enormous, the Rosebuta would likely be a good foot or two taller than normal. A Boar would grow to be far stronger than his /rose/ brethren, a Rosy would be far more agile. Not only that, but the forest's natural effects might take hold of a Rosebuta. They could be more tree-like, with harder skin and a more leaf-like head flower. In essence, any Rosebuta born in /uuu/ would be more capable in every way just due to how healthy and lush that place is.
One of the downsides means if a /uuu/-born Rosebuta were to ever turn Babirusa, the consequences would be... Dire.

A Risubuta (name patent pending) would be quite the specimen. They'd be a creature of pure lust, at the very least. Their mating season would put old Temüjin to shame. Not sure what traits they would pick up, though. Maybe they'd be more accustomed to gems? Perhaps they'd have a natural affinity for /risu/ magic. They'd be larger due to the enhanced soil as well. I could see them with a fluffy tail too, not as small as a normal Rosebuta's but not as large as a Risuner's.

That's true. They'd be significantly weaker outside of /uuu/ due to a lack of sufficient nutrition. Bark would make it harder for a Boar, but not for a Rosy. Rosies are much weaker than a Boar though, so it's not like their mobility is that powerful when paired with their strength.

I suppose a Rosebuta grown in /nasa/'s greenhouse would be very similar to /rose/. The underground gardens aren't that much different to that of /nasa/'s greenhouses. While our soil is of exceptional quality /nasa/ also has other foods for the Rosebuta piglet to eat so they don't tax the soil too much. With enough research /nasa/ can produce an adequate baby formula to bottle feed the Rosebuta piglet. Now I don't know what properties Rosebutas grown in /nasa/ would have. But we'll try our best to understand Rosebutas so they have as natural of a life as they can. And according to /nasa/ Rosebutas are sentient and will therefore be treated as people.

For other animals /nasa/ does not have zoos. All animals we capture and hold in captivity get medical examination. Healthy animals are released after rehabilitation if they need it.

Also found a video with boar piglets.

And Risuners learned to weave their own cloth from plant fibers, linen, and a little bit of cotton. Cotton could be a very common crop for /risu/. Its called "aptitude". Some people can write magic whatever and whenever they want. Others have to research and think about every detail before they can put together a draft. Some people are good at writing war stories. Some are good at writing history. Some people are better at editing and formatting drafts. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Try to stick to your strengths. But remember to change up your writing once in a while.

Hey don't beat yourself up so much Risuner. Single-minded perspectives are cool too! Many ways to tell a story and having personal logs /diaries do help out other anons who want to bounce off your characters. When you see other anons doing better than you, take note of what precisely you think their work is better than yours then try to incorporate it into your stuff. That's a good instinct for a writer. See I used to have trouble when I got told to write things this way or write things that ways. Not just in formatting but in subjects as well. When I said fuck that and wrote what I want, when I want then my writing got better. Eventually after writing what I want it became an illegible mess. At that phase I learned to research on my own how to format and edit. And then I experimented with changing up my writing to be more legible. More understandable. Shakespeare's Iambic Pentameter may have been a shit writing format, but it taught me how to pace my words and sentences into a good flow that's easy to read quickly from verse to verse. My writing is a bit simplistic, but it seems ESLs can understand my writing for the most part. So maybe I'm doing something right.

Apologies for the ramble. For me becoming an "okay" writer did not happen until later in my life. And it took writing, failing, writing again, and studying for myself on how to be better. Also fuck programs like Grammarly that pre-writes stuff for you.

While Sanalites don't just fuck each other willy-nilly we still have a bond that keeps most of us together. That bond is Sana. That's alright. I don't quite understand half of deep space inventions. What I do understand is that they need to fall in line with what's possible in the laws of physics. Also a ton of deep-space technology is based on many technologies we have today or are researching. They're also based on priorities of what we need to survive in deep space. And a ton of that research comes from observing how humans survived in nature as well as nature itself.

My idea for deep space stations is that they are not tubes of sliding doors. They're oceans in a sphere that grow an underwater ecosystem to produce an atmosphere similar to Earth's. I'm still ironing out details like an artificial magnetic field and rotation speed that gives aquatic animals a compass and sense of gravity inside the station. But those details are for later.

Hard cheese is also a good thing to add to your diet for healthy fats. Before starting something like keto you need to familiarize with the foods you're going to be eating. Hi everyone, tourist chumbud here. I came up with some ideas for the /ggg/ area that don't involve warfare or taking over the entire ocean. But for what I came up with to work, /ggg/ needs to be partially submerged. Is it possible that the area could have underwater and above water borders? Also what is the classification for the different lands, are they considered countries, or kingdoms, or do we choose what each one is?

>> No.26538490

Fantastic! Yes, that's fine. You can specify some parts of your territory as being a unique "submerged land" biome in a potential future map. How deep is the water? If it's very deep, it might make more sense to say the chumbuds' "land" extends some ways into the ocean instead of submerging the existing land. You can choose what form of government your country has, or even the lack of thereof.

>The underwater part would be about 5,000m deep because thats where shrimp are found
Okay, since water that deep that would require large enough areas of deep water that it would require changes to the map, I would suggest that instead you include a part of the ocean inside the /ggg/ borders and call that your "submerged land".
Something like pic related, though that's just a quick sketch, the shape of the submerged land can be whatever you want obviously. This is just to save mapanon and drawanon some work.

That works. Whatever is easiest really. I would just need to be able to have settlements at different levels of the ocean from the very bottom to the land. My idea would be that since Chumbuds have very different opinions on other chuubas and fanbases, the more accepting of others they are, the closer to land they get. So Chumbuds at the very bottom want nothing to do with anyone else while Chumbuds on land are open to interacting with foreigners.

In the last threads we thought about having floating gardens. Floating gardens are underwater structures that float at the perfect depth so chumbuds can grow kelp gardens on the surface. Just a question for Chumbud: Where do you forge tridents? Do you forge them on land or in bubble cave forges? It's near impossible to forge underwater so you need air to make tridents work. Alternatively you can have tools made from stone and bone. Whale bones would be essential for carving tools. I don't know if you would have much use for wood. Copper, bronze, and brass would be excellent metals for underwater.

Depending on your settlement they can be as small as a portable bed you can push around. Or they can be as big as a small farm tied by hemp lines to keep the currents from sweeping them away. Also this world is alien. So you can have crops like underwater sea fruits and sea flowers.

>>26540683
I'm sure an anon who knows metalurgy can help out. You could rip off Minecraft and have Prismarine stones. Could even have sea lamps made from chuubanite. Prismarine can be copper-glazed stones resistant to erosion. Which makes then great for building temples that worship Gura.

Also what are Chumbud's physiology? Are they shark people or something else?

>> No.26541694

>>26541248
>Are they shark people or something else?
I haven't fully thought that out yet but something closer to a crustacean. They need to be able to breathe on land and underwater, and depending on their worldview some may spend more time above water than below, so at the various depths they would be slightly different from each other.

If we assume doing it wholly underwater, your best chance is probably to dig around hydrothermal vents. On the seabed, their temperature is around 400 degrees Celsius, which is admittedly pretty crap and probably only allows you to work lead, but if you dig deeper into it, you might be able to reach a temperature hitting 4 digits (which is about the temperature of the magma that heats the vents). That way, you should be able to work relatively better metal like sponge iron and copper (and bronze by extension), which should help kickstart the chumbud civilisation. I think you need the area to be free of water, though, since it seems they play a major role in keeping the vents no hotter than 400 degrees. Still, you will likely want to procure a source of air (at least oxygen) somehow if you want to continue developing metallurgy underwater.
Alternatively, hydrothermal vents might also form obsidian, which while very brittle is also fairly sharp, so it can be used in lieu of metal in some cases if necessary. I guess in a way, sharpness might be more important than durability when it comes to underwater combat, since the higher density of water means you probably won't be doing quick thrusts anyway.
Alternatively alternatively, since chumbuds apparently can go above water, they can always just do their forging on dryland and bring the product back home. That might be the best solution even if it's kind of boring. Maybe chuubanite shenanigans can help with that?

So I got another idea. Chumbuds could be another hybrid race like a mermaid but half-shrimp. Instead of hands they have claws. The claws are strong enough to cut and crush limestone. They are also shaped to hold stuff easier like tools. They could have "fingers", or segments of pincer to get better grips with pole-arms and levers. If you don't want human traits then you can just go full shrimp people. That's all the time I can spare tonight. But good luck writing.

MAPANON DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT LOOK AT THIS, FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! PLEASE!

Ok, here's the first VERY rough (like alpha 0.1 rough) draft of the /ggg/ map I made. The light blue area is where the million of little islands would still need to be placed, which I'm about to do now (Sana help me) and there are still some bigger landmasses that would be /ggg/ territory on their border with Amelia Watson.

The outline is their current borders, so yea, as you can see I shrunk them down a bit, but that can just be their fully submerged regions. Note that as fish-human hybrids (or did we settle on shrimp-human now?) the amount of landmass wouldn't really affect them much, as esentially all of the sea within their borders would be full of immense coral reefs where hundreds if not thousands of small settlements can be placed.

So, thoughts? And please be quick, I feel like Mapanon is already sprinting across the world to bash my head in with a hammer...

OH ALSO, if the anon that made the tectonic analysis is here, and this somehow makes it in the final draft (jumping the gun a bit, I know) and I don't get killed by mapanon, think we could draw a tectonic plate border straight across the territory? I have no idea if something like this would make sense or be feasible without breaking anything else, but I would want to give them some deep trenches, to include some more deep-sea chumbud tribes or something.

Something like, /who/ reps bring us over to their usual spot and say. "hey these people are risuners and they are apparantely VERY excited to see you" was what I had in mind

>/ggg/ is just a massive, somewhat artificial saltwater lake.
I kid, looks neat. Perhaps your could use the land painting tool for the outline to visualize that it's supposed to be borders?

Actually either the 3 pinisi that I had run aground on the beach or they set up camp at the border for /who/. Either one would work.

Did you know that the words unfettered and unfeathered can have almost opposite meanings but sound almost exactly the same. I thought that was interesting. I'm having a hard time choosing which one I want to use in my text. Both fit in a way.

Im here. i only have one thing to say;
Yo what the fuck?!
On the other hand, wouldnt it be more logical to just give the chumbuds the lowlands and coasts, and their true underwater territory being the regional continental shelf?
As for the inland highlands and mountains, just give them to any other holos

All of the fuck!!
And yea, I saw that idea being passed around when touristbud first came here, but for the first draft I just wanted to go wild with as many islands as possible, taking heavy inspiration from Greece. Taking a look at how I can redesign it to be less jarring rn, might even go with that idea in the end.

just so you know the seismograph thingy was me the onobot not a risuner, tho i do like the idea fo an onobot wanting to "stealthily" tryign to observe sanalites by pretendign to be a cleaning bot, he wouldn't even do anything harmful really, bot is just curious since they are space people and he remembers that they come from space too.
