But yes this is also why a bunch of raccoons were released into the wild in japan in the 1970s. They aren't like the chinese and don't see them as food but they take the concept of 'pet' more like 'autonomous possession' rather than screeching meowing barking beast that can shit up your house if you don't know how to take care of it.
