Mutes have been a part of VRChat and streaming since the beginning, as far back as the first "boom" in 2018 when it was fresh. They just weren't completely commoditized until about 2020 when Roflgator realized he could bring it back for content. A lot of people had mutes back in 2018, it was just largely unofficial but they mainly just acted as jesters as they do now since most just enjoy entertaining.

For clips up to 90 seconds I just use Twitch's clip function. You can right click > inspect the clip on the "create" page to rip the full 90 seconds straight out of the HTML code. For something longer like this I plan to have youtube-dl and ffmpeg double team the vod, using youtube-dl to download the vod so that ffmpeg can clip the relevant part.

Those are the simplest ways to do it by far. The rest involves command line autism. I've heard of people just piping the stream into mpv player using streamlink and doing some command line wizardry to clip it from there, never looked into it. I left because the drama in the KR community had become unbearable at a certain point, and I had shit to do, so I just left for awhile. Drama in the indie section was especially bad, but it was even worse for all current/former NijiKR vtubers as well, which made it even fucking worse.

Unfortunately things haven't seemed to have improved, a vtuber company literally imploded as I got back, and a favorite indie of mine just destroyed their own numbers by doing pointless collabs and dumping that onto other vtubers. At least I don't have as much obligations right now.

The only other indie that I can think about worth tracking right now is "maoruya" (https://www.twitch.tv/maoruya)) and even she's having her numbers bogged down.
