What is /asp/?
A thread where we discuss our vtuber aspirations! Where it's agency-based or independent, let's help each other grow and make it as entertainers. Indies are welcome to join, but shill responsibility. Share what knowledge, insights, what works/doesn't work for you. Remember to do your research before providing personally identifying information to companies online!

FAQ:
Do I need an expensive, fully rigged Live2D model to be a vtuber?
No! You can always start out as a pngtuber!

Where can I learn how to Live2D rig avatars?
Check out Brian Tsui's (of Iron Vertex) YouTube channel!

Where can I find artists/riggers?
Skeb.jp, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, etc.

Seems like a poor idea, to be honest. It's fine to just be casual friends with people from here, but making an actual 'group' seems like inviting trouble. Also a lot of people from around here (not so much /asp/ itself so much) are rather unpleasant to be around sometimes.

an anon mentioned it last thread, but how loud should i be? i've realized i have zero sense of how loud something is because i have multiple things getting in the way of my sound.
>physical knob on my speakers
>windows volume settings
>elgato wave sound mixer
>the audio sliders in game
>my headphone's monitor knob
and all of these are all over the place (to suit my personal needs), but i have zero clue how loud or quiet i'll be for the average viewer. if i listen to my own streams, it's filtered through all of those volume adjustments.

anon mentioned that my voice should be in the yellow of the OBS volume meter? isn't that too loud? if i talk with a bit more energy, it breaks into the red.

I'm a babiniku, and these are some insights I've seen or learned from fellow babis.

"The Double-Edged Sword"
If you try and self-promote you'll be raided with trolls and called a tranny. Yet, without self-promoting, you'll be a nobody.

"Male vs Female"
>...most guys would prefer to watch a female avatar because they're just nicer to look at.
This is true... kind of.
The piece that a lot of people don't think about when they want to go babi is that most of the time when men play female characters in games they've gotten some say in how their female avatar is designed or acts. This is fun role-reversal and interesting to act out in a video game. The problem you'll run into is that you will be presenting everyone with YOUR 'ideal' avatar and portrayal of a female persona. Watchers will have no initial investment in this persona, which leads too...

"Small Fish, Large Pond"
Know going in that you're purposefully limiting your audience. People outside of the vTuber community will assume you're some sort of closet pervert and won't want to follow you, and people inside our community will likely just try to find a real female vTuber to simp -- of which, there are countless. It is inevitable one of these females will be doing your gimmick better, and without needing to 'fake it'.

The novelty of "being a guy with a female avatar" in the West -- is just that -- a novelty.

"Fin"
Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to gatekeep or dissuade you. Just be aware that these are -- but a few -- of the hurdles and roadblocks you will likely encounter. Expect them, and overcome them.

Here's some advice for HoloEN auditions.
Learn how to interview at a normal company.
It's literally the exact same process as applying for a job in any other field.
The majority of applications will be thrown out since no HR department has time to sit through and look at over 1000 applications.
If you do get through to the second round then the people interviewing you probably only had a vague glance at your resume and won't know anything about you so you should give them a quick rundown of your work history first.
Prepare for standard interview questions such as "why do you want to work here?" (hint hint don't give the real reason say it's because you can make a real difference for the company or some shit) or "can you think of a time where you had to explain a technical thing to a non-technical person?".

id say that if you think you have a weak application to spend little time/ energy on an audition. As been repeated many times you don't make the shots you don't take, that being said...

I get it but yall attacking the wrong companies.

I see nothing about how shady Narwal looks here, or the roleplay company. Prism and Cyber seem fine so far. Let them get the ball moving before we assume. just audition with some skepticism and you'll be fine.

I assume its because the first two you mentioned were basically laughed off immediately and no one bothered to remember they exist. At least prism and cyberlive are sticking in peoples minds enough for people to be skeptical.

another 2 hour test stream. i think i've got my encoding settings right, the only skipped frames were at the beginning of the stream where i had my placeholder "stream is starting" screen. fixed the sound issue so i'm more audible compared to the game. got zero viewers, but i'm not too worried. still lots of dead air that i need to fill in as i play, but i'm not sure with what.

Oh! From that perspective, this is reassuring! At 28 seconds in I had an animatic, so at first I was under the impression that they just really disliked it. I suppose that could still be the case, but I will keep this more optimistic reason in mind as a possibility.

I got contacted by Niji and even got interviewed but I did not pass. They contacted me right after auditions ended asking a few questions, and then didn't follow up until a month later (late January) for an interview. I didn't pass but it is worth noting that you can be contacted awhile after. No idea about holo

>> No.2590236

>>2589910
I don't think they can or would even want to provide concrete evidence lol. Even if it's a screenshot and they blur out specific info that could give them away, they would most likely just brag about it but not feel compelled to prove more. Unless they're retarded and willing to risk it just for 4chan asspats.

That said, there was an anon about two threads ago (in the archives now) that said they were contacted to set up an interview with Hololive. I think their post was earlier this week. They also said that they submitted during the first week of auditions and it was viewed that same week too. Smells like bullshit, probably is bullshit, but who knows?

It’s a long game sometimes, like. Replying to someone in a chill way, not actively shilling and not on every post they do but maybe a 60/40 split makes you stick out in people’s heads.
Don’t just focus one person either but a few. And not all in the same friend group obviously.
You want to start out as a sort of “regular” at their content before you shoot your friend or collab shot. Post comments, hang out in chats all that.

And people scrolling down the comments will see you, so make sure you’re obviously a vtuber by your name and profile pic.
