On the subject of NijiEN and FotM-

The standard model of a variety streamer cycles through different forms of these to gather an audience of casuals and tourists, while filtering through that audience to build a core fanbase. There are something like 4 forms of staple content among Vtubers, and those are:
>Gaming Streams
>Singing Streams
>Drawing Streams
>Talking Streams
However, these are not the only form of content that exist, but all others are necessarily supplemental for various reasons.

For example, there are also handcam streams, which includes stuff like card pack opening and cooking streams, these attract decent traffic and aren't hard to execute. I would lump this kind of content together with drawing streams, and stuff like Mio's tarot reading and Kson's gunpla building under the umbrella of 'hobby stream'. On the opposite side, you have prerecorded and edited content, stuff like Hologra which is scarce due to the difficulty/cost of producing it, so this is a form of high risk and high reward. It's basically impossible for Vtubers to do outdoors style content without jumping though hoops, and educational content may or may not do enough numbers to justify it, but those would be in the midpoint between the two extremes if they were part of their normal repertoire.

Then you have what this thread tends to call 'buff content' which is really just different kinds of pandering streams. Collab, Off-Collab, Drinking, Celebration, Endurance, these things can increase numbers wildly depending on how its executed, but its usually only a temporary gain, primarily from tourists.

Finally, there is toxic content, which leverages your reputation for short term exposure, but can cause long term damage to your credibility. Drama has the worst effects for the boost it gives, Analytical style content can actually help you build reputation if done well but has a tendency to make you enemies, and all forms of Pandering streams operate this way as well if over exploited.

Hololive's business strategy can be summed up as applying the variety streamer model to their entire company, and then from there to their multimedia franchising, which is the origin of the 'holobox' phenomena of brand loyalists. Nijisanji has never done this successfully, mostly due to lack of trying but partly because of their own strategy of acceleration .

Despite trying to build a box with aggressive collaborations, NijiEN committed a cardinal sin by overdoing pandering streams, which burned out their audiences and stunted their natural growth, causing them to rely excessively on tourists which already lost interest from their constant clickbaiting. They thought that to become popular they could just do as much buff content as possible, but ended up stalling out because they ran out of gas. This is why their floor is so low, and why they have such a high ceiling, because they actually did manage to successful build a box for themselves as a group, but failed to create a core fanbase for themselves as individuals.

Well it might be intentional strategy mandated by the management. Anykara actually named overreliance on top talents as a weakness in their IPO papers if I remember right and there is no doubt that from a company/business perspective it's best if the group band is stronger than individual members so some of them can leave without demaging it much etc.

In the current climate, a VSPO clipfag getting converted into being a streamwatcher has to go through insane hurdles though -

For holo the advantage is that there's a "clipping ecosystem" where there's people who watch clips 99% of the time and maybe tune in live for certain special streams like 3D debuts or rare collabs.
VSPO will need to give their clippers free reign in order to have such a system, which they have been burned once by (though you could partially blame the talent for this as well). And idk if they have "special streams" other than tournaments to funnel tourists into. 3D debuts and other stuff are generically cute and can be enjoyed by anyone, while FPS tournaments is not that much of a general crowd.
I just feel like for VSPO's type of "vibe", clippers won't really help much.
