What are your thoughts on vtuber appearances at conventions?

What do you think they think when they see what their fans look like for the first time?

and at the very least they're behind a screen and not even in the same city so they get to avoid the full "300 lb haven't showered for a week with pants full of shit and semen" convention experience.

I mean, they are women I don't think we can really understand what they think on this issue. Clearly on some level a woman is capable of falling in love with something horrendous as real-life experience shows. But since they don't feel human emotions, it's unclear what motivates this. Vtuber fans are testing out the theory that if you just give her enough money, will she genuinely respect you. Because I can believe when Kiara streams and talks to her superchatters, she genuinely cares about them. But when I see them posting their selfies with her roommate, I can't see how she wasn't openly holding her nose at them. But it's possible since she already has the preset attachment to them online, that as long as she knows who they are, she can forgive the appearance easily.

I think they do, but like every other celebrity in the world, they prep them before hand. I can't remember which Holo said it, but they mentioned offhand that they had a lot of signing to do, which I took as they had a lot of signing of merchandise for conventions and stuff.

If you're a fucking loser. There's only two types of people who ever attend cons, the elites who are finding some way to monetize the experience without actually being a part of the culture that is beneath them (vtubers in this case) or the losers who need validation in their life and can't find it anywhere else but by traveling to hang out with strangers who also like the same children's media as them. The reason photos of people at meet-ups or cons are always so fucking gross is because the sort of people who get that validation lose the pressure to feel like they need to also be capable of blending in with regular humans too so they just go all-in on being this one minor aspect of themselves because they know they can get validation for it. There's nothing wrong with liking 4chan but needing to be surrounded by other people who openly also use 4chan to feel validated is pathetic behavior.

Common knowledge about conventions shouldn't offend you so much. Their literal purposes are networking and/or validation of socially unacceptable traits, there's no other reason for them to exist. The fact that you are using the Internet right now means you inherently understand this and aren't just some troglodyte from a time when they would have theoretically served other functions the Internet does today.

Aspd as in sociopath, not aspergers or something. I'm very high functioning, and I blend in perfectly fine amongst normal people aside from very few mistakes I make here an there in new situations so I don't know how I'm meant to react to certain things, but they're easily covered up. Empathy with others and understanding how they feel/the appeal of things I don't personally find appealing I tend to have some difficulty with if I don't have a good personal equivalent, and since I don't like large groups of people or people in general I can only assume to a certain degree without concrete confirmation or by directly observing others in the situation, which you can't do that well with pictures or videos on the internet. I can extrapolate from similar things, and from experiencing things first hand to try to simulate and understand how others feel, but a solid understanding is way easier if I'm just told by a normal person with normal levels of empathy and understanding of others, or just by a person who enjoys it directly. As to going to any kind of con, I'd prefer not to as I genuinely hate people and while I understand knowing others who enjoy a hobby can be of use to eat time discussing it with at work or something, I don't really get how meeting others who also enjoy them could be that fun as my enjoyment of my hobbies is purely self-centered, but I genuinely thank you for the advice.

>you've probably spoken to professionals about it
Somewhat. I've seen a therapist and been diagnosed but he did it so demurely I didn't even think to ask what it was, so only realized fully what was up later in life when I remembered I'd been diagnosed with it and got bored enough to look it up, which connected a lot of dots for me and made me realize why I hate normal people so much and why they act the way they do. In general, I don't care about how others view me unless it's advantageous to me or hurts me socially, which can cost me things I want want like job opportunities, so there's no reason for me not to speak of it candidly so long as it's on an anonymous place like this.

Now to stop wasting your time. The appeal of vtubers is that they're like normal streamers (which tend to be really boring unless they're funny/charismatic enough that even I'd recognize them as funny, and I've spent most of my life learning to be as charismatic and funny as possible to blend in and get a good social standing despite my mental hang-ups, so I have a high bar for funny) plus the anime aesthetic, plus the fact they're playing pretend as an anime boy/girl over that all at the same time. I feel it's really interesting to watch people juggle all this at the same time, so instead of getting bored of them just playing games, I can have it all at the same time, otherwise they'd probably bore me too. It may also be a kind of morbid interest as they're pretending to be an anime person, while I have to pretend to be a normal person all the time in public and constantly emulate the reactions I think people should have/expect me to have, so I guess that's pretty interesting to watch, but I've never really given it too much thought. Thinking about it now I feel like I'd be a pretty good vtuber kek
>If you dont mind me asking
You can ask me whatever you'd like, but I want to ask you things too if you'd be willing. What's the appeal of vtubers to you? Do you empathize with them in some way and that's somehow in the appeal? The way you asked the question seems to imply this.
>>25597032
I tried to write it as logically as I could, as it tends to let people understand my way of thinking a little easier than if I write it more "normally" and with more emotion to make them more comfortable, so maybe that has something to do with it.

My position might be different from most anons as im a fan of proformance art like stand up and improv in general, and streaming feels like a natural extension of that field. I like vtubers in particular because /vt/'s reactions to large events are incredibly entertaining to me, and i prefer to see someone playing a character. Aside from that i used to (and admittedley sometimes still do) use internet personalities like lets players as "surrogate friends" to get a sense of social fulfillment when i was younger and lonlier, so i do empathize with other people's experience as well. The best way i can describe it is that it feeds a "social hunger" isolated people feel that make people agitated and restless, and hearing a friendly voice has a soothing effect on that feeling.

I suppose I can understand that to a degree. When I make others laugh it's more about ME though, about how I was funny enough to make them laugh and about how that means I'm better than others who can't make people laugh, it strokes my ego so to speak, rather than caring whether my joke made them happier(?) or not. Usually when I get lonely I just do something I enjoy and that takes away the feeling just fine, too.

I feel like people forget those anime girl avatars are not the real actors. Many of these faggots would be the ones another vtuber is cringing at when they showed up to a convention. The problem with these conventions is not that the vtubers are being forced to interact with people beneath them but that the environment is one of these mentally ill people fucking worshipping them after tossing all dignity aside and ruining the illusion that the vtuber's supposed positive influence is actually impacting worthwhile people. It's cute to hear some chatter tell you that you brighten his day and that is a good thing no matter who that loser actually is. Theres a sense of pride and accomplishment at getting a good laugh out of people, and recieving attention from people you like makes you feel special and important. Its been my experience that focusing excessively on the self serving aspects of humor adds a layer of proformance anxiety and tension that hinders my ability to take action because it feels like im gambling my self worth on every joke, and im diverting mental resources away from focusing on the next joke or reading the crowd and i get distracted. It might be that the emotional stakes are higher for neurotypical people, though.
