The evidence of looming environmental disaster is basically omnipresent if you try to measure it. Soil in non-agricultural land is being depleted of nitrogen, we're basically entering sixth mass extinction in Earth's history (progressing about a thousand times faster than previous extinctions), global warming just to top it off. Microplastics are in your blood, fluoropolymers are in your liver, lead is in your brain. We, as a species, have global impact and we have zero fucking clue what we're doing most of the time. And until recently, we didn't even give a fuck about it.
You know what happens when you grow yeast when making moonshine? It finds that it has a lot of nutrients, starts to multiply like crazy, and eventually dies in its own waste - ethanol. Same happens with plants and with invasive species of animals. It took humans good two thousand years of complete world domination that we're not exempt from it. We're not dumb enough to simply ignore the unsustainability of our current world, but we're also not smart enough to quickly and painlessly fix it. The fact that we're talking about a disaster that's decades if not centuries down the line doesn't help with taking action to avert it.

The truth is, shit's fucked, the people who fucked up are either long dead or will die before it affects them, and that the issues Earth and humanity faces are too fucking complex to grasp all at once, like an entangled web of complete clusterfuck of variables.
There is no easy way out, there will be no justice triumphing over evil or finger-pointing to a singular responsible entity.
And while the big polluters get away scot free, the future generations or maybe even you will be expected to make personal sacrifices out of personal responsibility for the actions of a mausoleum of people who made fortunes taking a big fat dump on the planet, because they knew they could get away with it.
