There's a few options for taking payments, but note that you might need to do further digging depending on what country you're in. For instance, based on what a friend was saying, you legally need to set up a business if you're in Germany.

Simplest method is to not open donations, and just take donations through twitchbits or subs. No extra effort involved on your behalf, no chance of anyone doxxing you.
Another simple method is to just use your personal paypal. This will doxx you, but requires no effort. Further, paypal might get pissy about it.

At a step further, you can set up a business paypal. This doesn't take long, and is pretty easy. It can end up doxxing you if people open disputes and they've directly donated to you. It's also helpful when purchasing, so I'd recommend setting one up anyway, even if it's just for when you comission stuff.

Then you have the "payment processor" sites. Ko-fi, Patreon, or SE-Pay. SE-Pay is good for stopping chargebacks, but you need (I think) 100 followers and a linked twitch account to get it. You pay through paypal (I think) or directly through Debit/Credit Card, but it obfuscates both sides details.
Ko-Fi and Patreon do similar, but require setting up accounts as the user, and the donater (super easy, but it's another block).

Streamlabs also has a thing, but they've got scummy business practices, and I don't want anyone else to get suckered into their "buy SLPremium" scheme

There's the 'scummy' practise that impacts users, and then the business side.

The user one is that when donating, there's an option to by Streamlabs Prime, or something like that, for the streamer. It costs $5 per month, but you buy the year up front... And they wouldn't include it in the cost. And it's then exceptionally hard to cancel.

The business scumminess includes
- using pictures of streamers (who don't use streamlabs) without permission
- using the name streamlabs OBS, despite not being affiliated with the OBS team
- making their entire build off of a prior OBS release, which they added nothing to
- being a janky piece of fuc
- the plagarism of advertising

I think it's important to go into chuubing aware that the vast majority never "make it", as in go full-time content creators.

I went into chuubing with "I enjoy watching vtubers, I enjoy playing video games, I used to want to join the circus... fuck it, let's go". I suppose, deep down, I want to be able to go full-time. But I'm aware that it's very unlikely for me, and instead I can treat it like beer money.
Looking at my income/expenditure, then going by only channel related costs, I probably break even... Ish.
If I were to treat it more like trying to file tax, and putting everything through, I've made a loss, but a lot of that money might have been spent on vtuber stuff anyway, but slightly different creators.

If you're struggling to reach affiliate, you need to have a look at where is it you're having problems. If it's the average viewers, then have a look at total viewers - if it's low, then you're getting not many people seeing you; if it's high, then you're getting people to see you, but you're not keeping their interest.
If you're struggling with followers, then maybe you need to polish your networking.

You can absolutely 'cheat' the system - post on twitter with "I'm so nearly at affiliate, doing a big push this week", and you'll possibly get some support that drops off quickly.

Technically took me 4 years to reach affiliate, because i never advertised myself, i just went online without a goal, and even now that i reached affiliate i still have nobody watch because i don't have engaging content.

People get out what they put in, i don't think it's a good idea to just rate their level of success on an arbitrary milestone sometimes it takes a long time for someone to find their niche.

Welp, I finally streamed for the first time. It was more of a technical test/trial just to see how everything ran and if I had fun doing it (ergo, I didn't shill it anywhere). Watching the recording I took, I have a lot of room to improve, but I enjoyed myself at least. I definitely need to enunciate better since I tend to be relatively quiet when I'm talking to myself and to find a good ratio of talking about the game I'm playing & my thoughts on it vs other stuff, but that'll come with practice (+ having some sort of audience, which is just more evidence that I need to do twitter reps).
For anyone else that doesn't really like their "real" voice, what do you do? Do you just deal with it, have a character voice, or what?
