I teach college students so I can't speak for teaching kids. Have done volunteer work with kids on the autism spectrum though, that was nice.

Teaching college is better if you want less drama because most of the students tend to have a decent head on their shoulders and at least sort of want to be there, you don't have to deal with parents, you can actually fail students who deserve it, and if someone tries to grade grub you with shitty reasoning you can pretty much politely tell them to go fuck themselves and be backed by your institution. Go on r/teachers if you wanna know what teaching K-12 can be like

Not something you do if you wanna be rich though, you gotta be a full tenured prof to get to six figures and there's at least 100 applicants for every 1 of those positions, all with Ph.D's and likely postdoc work as well. You basically do it because you genuinely love teaching and/or working in academia. If you're basic science you're probably better off having your main job be in industry and then adjuncting a course in your free time

I don't think that's necessarily true, you could get a masters and then become adjunct or full time teaching faculty at a community college or SLAC at the very least. That's what a lot of history types tend to do. I'm mostly talking in the context of STEM (specifically chem) and research professorships at four-year universities, that's when it becomes ultra competitive.

Again though, pay's not very good, but given how college courses are it's pretty much set up for you to have multiple teaching positions or a second job on the side. Depending on where you live it can be more than enough to get by fairly comfortably
