At this point since the whole vtubing thing got mainstream people think that it's nothing more than having a character in the corner of your stream for eyecandy. But personally I think the roleplay part is fun.

"Sticking to your lore" isn't even that hard really. Just adapting your stories to be lore-related and making references and jokes about it when you think of them, getting your chat in on it too. I've never felt the need to specify anything as "OOC" myself but depending on how "full-on" or different from your real self the character is I could see it being worthwhile. I think the issue with analyzing it like this though is that people will misconstrue this as it being a conscious effort. Some people just use Twitter like a normal human and talk about things they think or what's going on. All these big people started doing things organically and made content of things they loved, enjoyed, or just wanted to try out. It's not about "drive" it's about practicality. That's just not typically something people do when it comes to content creation especially. Editing is obviously one of the skills that's basically required, as is knowledge of the most basic tools to record your content but learning an extremely new and complex skill like that just isn't viable for a majority of people and not something people really do to begin with because of that.

CodeMiko is a prime example of something similar. She didn't just learn all that stuff specifically for streaming, it's something she was knowledgeable about already. She may have learned more within that field but it was still based off of skills or interested she already had and jobs she's had in the past
