/nasa/ does have some silver and gold to use as currency. We also have a local currency called "fuel credits". However fuel credits are only accessible via tablet computer through online accounts. This is also one of the problems with a full station shut down at /nasa/. While the station is locked down fuel credits are inaccessible because no internet. Most fuel credits are used for digital economies.

No need to anchor this, I'm working on a combined lore document for nasfaqg and I'll include this answer word for word (minus this disclaimer) in that document.
Also congratz on your climbing, 1st page soon!
There would be three different kinds of currency used in and by the Serene Republic.

>1. Nasfaq Dollars
The first is a pure fiat currency, its value comes from the Dev Council backing it, and from every trader in the Republic considering it valuable. As fiat, this currency is subject to inflation and deflation. We shall call this currency the "Nasfaq Dollar", symbol $, code NAD, also known as "Dollar", "Nsfq$", "Nas$", or "NA$". The Nsfq$ takes the form of printed paper bills and paper shares from the NASFAQ Stock Exchange.

The paper bills and the shares are used interchangeably, but the paper shares fluctuate wildly in value, which may be confusing to outsiders, but natives of the Republic are expected to know the daily values of each share.
A Nsfq$ is divided into 100 cents, but these cents are not used for trade as the dollar has inflated to the point where there is no point in even thinking about the cents.

This fiat currency is mostly used for internal trading. It is also considered a universal currency within the Serene Republic, so visitors from outside are encouraged (but not forced) to exchange their local currencies to the nsfq$ for their and everyone else's convenience. Time is money and determining the relative values of hundreds of different coins in the Grand Market wastes everyone's time.
This currency is the equivalent to your account balance / liquid in-game.

>2. Precious metals
The second currency is cold hard precious metals, primarily gold and silver. These metals are often not even minted, and are instead traded by block, their values being their weight in gold/silver. This is the currency the Serene Republic would use for external trade, understanding that not all nations are willing to accept fiat currencies.

>3. Special Gold Coins
The third currency are special gold coins. These gold coins are minted from pure gold and a hint of appropriate chuubanite and prepared in such a way that they cannot be tampered easily, i.e, wrapped in a cloth with official seal, or minted with a special seal. The value of these coins is semi-fiat, as in, it is the sum of the precious metal used in the coin as well as a value that is tied to how a certain chuuba has been doing. I dont know how exactly to consolidate this in-universe, maybe the value of the coin is partially based on how energetic the chuubanite of a certain affinity is. E.g., if Kronii has a good day, the coins associated with her rise in value by an appropriate amount. Chuubanite standard?
This third currency is also used mostly as an internal currency, and is an option for outsiders to exchange their currencies into. However, due to the nature of how the value of these coins are evaluated, they are not exactly as stable as the fiat currency is.

Pic purely for example reasons, not necessarily lore-accurate.

I see, thanks for explaining it! What kind of real power does the Dev Council have in the Republic?

>> No.24152410

>>24151568
Currently thinking about it and writing it into the to-be lore document. They are a secretive organization of a few extremely powerful individuals who run and upkeep the NASFAQ Stock Exchange. They are the de-facto government of the Republic and on paper have absolute power (I think), but they are mostly concerned about upholding the basic laws and maintaining the sanctity of the market, leaving the rest of the governing to the citizens of the Republic.
They have the power to allow or disallow anyone from participating in the Stock Exchange, and they are the ones responsible for minting and printing new currencies.

I was thinking they could have their own armed forces so the dev council would hold a certain degree of monopoly over force in the republic, which is necessary in order for them to be able to enforce their laws.

So Wooly Mammoths aren't the only migratory species we have. We also have mossback tortoises. The tortoises will also travel south to /uuu/'s forest. Though I don't think they'll need to travel too far in the woods. The tortoises needs chuubanite to warm themselves. The forest's chuubanite are still deep underground. /nasa/'s chuubanite seems to be more closer to the surface. So smaller plants and taiga brush can access it better. On top of that tortoises are built to travel across open plains and hills. They won't do too well with navigating a thick forest like /uuu/.

TL;DR: The tortoises will venture to the border of /uuu/ but will stick mostly close to /nasa/ for easier chuubanite access.

/nasa/ Principal's Log:

Compared to the rest of the world I wonder if I should be lucky to be a Sanalite. Sure there's a lot of benefits from having space technology. However the revelation of being cut-off from space technology really showed how useless /nasa/ is without it. Essentially /nasa/ has no easy way of hand-building anything. And with Sanalites being deathly allergic to the dust in the world we have to wear our space suits everywhere no matter how hot or how cold it gets. There's also the problem of Sanalites being dependent on electricity for just about everything. We need batteries for almost all of our tools, including the spacesuits themselves. Also from years of living in low gravity our bones aren't exactly the strongest. Since the crash there have been more bone-related injuries from bruising, to fractures, to breaks. And any heavy labor requiring the back is at risk of spinal injury.

Its true /nasa/ has a lot of technology. However without that technology /nasa/'s chance of survival is single digit percentage. Therefore /nasa/ has a ton of respect for the natives that survive the harsh conditions without technology. Especially because their bodies have evolved to handle the harsh natural climate of the world and its chuubanite. Its a complete fucking miracle that /nasa/ can metabolize chuubanite fertilized plants. Its as if we're a long space-fairing species who went away from this planet and came back after millions of years. I'm just rambling in a principal's log. I don't know if this log will be archived along with the others given the manhunt for my head at the station. I just felt like writing anyway. I do miss writing principal logs.

Gotcha. I'll see what the principal says then. If it's germs and bacteria, pasteurizing food and water would remove those without affecting things like chuubanite. Actually, since chuubanite binds to other molecules, it would be pretty difficult to filter it out. You'd need to make a filter made of a material the chuubanite has a stronger affinity to so that it moves from whatever it is currently bound to, to the filter.

Bleaching is a fairly old concept, as is the idea of detergents - soap was used by Sumers, and Pliny the Elder wrote about using different kinds of plants (and their ash) to clean clothes. Before chlorine-based bleaching agents were invented, people use different kinds of methods to bleach fabric, which was time-consuming but still effective. As such, /meat/ most likely knows about procedures like that, although I don't think we actually need bleach for cleaning.
As for /meat/ pathology, the predominant idea is probably a variant of the age-old miasma theory. Their experience of dealing with corpses and other infecting agents meant /meat/ likely will know the basic miasma theory is insufficient, so it is probably supplemented by the idea that some kind of pathogen can enter you even without you breathing in the miasma. A RL proponent of that idea is Charles de Lorme, who is probably most famous for inventing the suits in picrel, which is the reasoning behind the all-covering suits in addition to the herbal mask. Combining that with /meat/'s existing idea of cleaning things to prevent infection to open wounds (which they cause a LOT of), /meat/ might actually end up being quite advanced in epidemiology (at least compared with proponents of basic miasma theory and humoral theory, or just attributing it to divine punishment).

making it's effects unreliable would be a good way to make it more balanced in my opinion, but then we have to ask what is actually going on behind it all? also, i really like the idea that people are starting to mix the magic systems of multiple factions together. i suggested this a while ago, but there is no reason why mixing chuubanite couldn't produce an entirely separate effect from either individual chuubanite effects. the idea that chuubanite works less outside of the faction specific regions was always a bad idea in my opinion, which is why i wanted people to explain it based on climate and not some meaningless boarders, but even still, mixing them should be able to produce different results.

diamonds don't actually take too much effort to produce, though good quality ones might be different. as for petrification, i said perfect petrification, as in an entire tree turns into stone. saying the part of the tree that got hit turned into stone isn't a big deal since that's what happens regardless when you burn trees, assuming the carbon in charcoal can be considered a kind of stone. perfect petrification must create some kind of chain reaction in the body to turn everything into something that is still made up of the material present, but takes on a much harder form. alternatively, if we say it is only partial petrification, and only the outside is effected, then it needs some method to cover just the outside of it. fire turning a tree into a carbon statue is a good example of imperfect petrification, but it can't do that without time for the fire to spread. if you want a kind of petrification that is reversible, ie stasis, it has to all happen at exactly the same time, which is why we are having such a hard time getting it to work irl. regardless, turning a tree into stone instantly isn't going to happen with just a light beam.

>diamonds don't actually take too much effort to produce
The more effortful part is not the diamond here, though diamond synthesis is definitely not in the cards with the current tech, this is post WW2 stuff. The main limiter is that the diamond has to store energy to be able to release it later. For /morig/ diamonds, this is done slowly and passively over the thousands of years they have spent underground on /morig/. For /risu/ gemcorn-grown diamonds, this would still take many years, until the photosynthesis energy of the tree is slowly stored into the Jamaican.

so is that thousands of years in addition to the thousands of years it takes for diamonds to form naturally? when we have the tech to make our own diamonds, we would probably have the ability to store chuubanite in them, all we would need is the right chuubanite in this case, so mass producing them would likely take less effort than you think.

While the Mossbacks are somewhat migratory, their entire territory is within /nasa/ borders. Anything further down south would just cause them to overheat, what with outside heat and chuubanite reactions. So the furthest they would go is the edge of the pine forests on our southern border with /uuu/, but still a ways of before entering their borders. Not like they would get very far even if they could, the vegetation there just isn't something they are accustomed to eating.

>> No.24172671

>>24172437
No, you're missing a step. Yes, it takes some time for the chuubanite to accumulate into the diamond, but chuubanite is not energy, chuubanite stores energy. Once enough /morig/ chuubanite has accumulated into the diamond, it begins to draw heat from its environment, and this is how it actually stores energy.
Pushing chuubanite into the diamond could be done artificially, but the heat absorption process doesn't have a way to be accelerated, as far as we know. You could synthesize a diamond and infuse it with chuubanite artificially, but then you'd have to wait for years for it to absorb enough heat to be used as a prismatic bomb like the risu witch did.

Would the mossbacks love /nasa/ crops like wheat, carrots, and snowpeas? I think if /nasa/ is careful with their approach we can sway mossbacks with some of the harvest so they won't go after our crops. Also mossbacks would be smarter than average tortoises. With enough time they can identify Sanalites as non-threats. Though their encounter with schizos may make building trust complicated. They could get along with mammoths as they would gave grass and berries on their backs.

>> No.24173486

>>24172801
Carrots would suit them pretty well, actually, being a root vegetable and all (they do consume quite a lot of root "heavy" I guess? plants they can reach with shallow digging). Not sure about wheat and other stuff though.

As for domesticating them (just come out and say it, we both know you want that) the short answer is no. The long answer is kinda, but not really. Unless we put some really sturdy fences around the fields and greenhouses (plastic tarps covering those are nothing if they decide they want in), they would be a 400kg pest that would just eat through most leafy and root vegetables. While they would learn that we are not a threat after a while, their lifestyle would prevent them from staying around for long, so we would always get different groups passing by.

So as much as it pains me to break your heart, no tortoise pets for us, sadly. Unless you wanna steal some and raise them in captivity, never to experience the loving touch of their own kind...you monster

And as for the mammoths, while I have yet to write their entry, the relationship they would have with Mossbacks would be indifferent at best, and downright hostile at worst. Essentially it would boil down to how many mammoths they would meet. If it was a group, they would generally just ignore each other, but if it was a lone male, things would escalate really quickly, as lone male mammoths are generally juvenile piles of hormones and aggressiveness, and as omnivores, tortoises are barely anything more than a meal for them. A meal that can claw, bite and burn you, perhaps even tear off your snout, but a meal nonetheless.

1) you are working off of a slightly different magic system from me. btw, not sure if you are the guy, but i'm pretty sure i asked a guy who had an almost identical system how chuubas relate to his magic system at all. i haven't heard a single other person advocate for, or even mention that interpretation besides him, and possibly you. even though i think my interpretation is better, and even though i thought everyone was more or less in agreement with my interpretation until a little while ago, since it has been around for a while, we should let people vote which is better. 2) be it your interpretation or mine, neither gets around the problem. chuubanite isn't energy, in my interpretation it is a portal to a universe of conceptual energy, and thus has no magical energy in it besides the ability to bridge the gap between universes, while in yours it just stores energy that already exists in the universe, and then produces effects that defy the laws of physics in the universe it exists in somehow. either way, all you need to do for yours is figure out how it stores energy and replicate it. now, if it were a convoluted process that had to take a lot of time for an actual logical reason, that would be one thing, but you said it literally just stores heat from its surroundings. even if we say it can only store energy in the form of heat, it would be trivial to do. even easier than making the diamond. if it's a diamond, it can withstand a fair amount of heat, and it is very hard, so you can't say it'll destroy the gem if you put it under too much heat, and even if you say the magic takes an arbitrarily large amount of energy to produce an effect, if it takes thousands of years under normal conditions and can be used to make a laser beam that can turn a tree into stone, then you can probably use the energy and a little bit of technology to increase efficiency to drop that down quite a bit, your only hope is to make a way for the technology to be too complex, but if we could recreate the surface of the sun in our universe without any magic tri-beams in the hands of people that only recently made it past the stone age, how much easier would it be for them? 3) rereading your suggestion, you are saying a material that exists in enough abundance to create a thick mist that cools off an entire island the size of Madagascar has to be absorbed into the diamond after it forms, as if it didn't exist at all before the diamond formed or wasn't present while the diamond was being formed. is there a process that forces /morig/'s chuubanite to only exist in the air or the surface for plants and animals to consume? furthermore, what process would a diamond free of any chuubanite be able to absorb it if a diamond is just a repeating pattern of densely packed carbon? i'll keep what i said just in case it adds anything to the conversation.

God damn anon kek, I'm sorry but I can't respond to this. I literally don't have the brain power to address every point you've brought up. Anyway, from the original chuubanite proposal:
>3.a. This deterioration can take on may forms. My personal proposal is that chuubanite passively radiates energy into its surroundings in the form of heat, light, and some sort of magical energy. The rate at which this radiation occurs is proportional to the surface area of the chuubanite object. As chuubanite radiates, it slowly loses mass (this loss of mass could be noticeable, or it could follow E = mc^2 in which case it would not be noticeable to anyone without access to very sensitive measuring instruments) until at some point the chuubanite has lost its available energy and it becomes what is essentially an inert rock.
This says that chuubanite contains energy, not that it's a conduit transferring energy between universes or something.

>> No.24175607

>>24175203
that's not the kind of energy that would produce the effects they were talking about. that's basically just the stuff decaying naturally. why would that cause a tri beam effect? as for the stuff with universes, idk how much of the rentry you've read, or if you've read any of the threads since then, but that rentry was only meant to explain the physical side of it. he even said specifically that he didn't want to get into how the magic works, which was what my interpretation was meant to address. pretty sure he said he liked it when i told him about it a while after the rentry was made.

>> No.24175926

>>24175607
Eh, the decay is basically just emitting energy, the tri-beam is just other ways to emit energy. Anyway, the energy conduit thing is not really incompatible with the energy storage thing. If anything the former requires the latter, since the energy has to exist in the chuubanite in some way before being transferred to the rest of the world.

>> No.24176804

>>24175926
it's a completely different energy. and i'm pretty sure particle decay isn't the same as emitting energy, but i'll get into that later. i don't want to keep changing the word i use for my interpretation, so i wont call it an energy conduit interpretation, and it is incompatible with your interpretation of the energy. there is a universe of concepts, and the energy from that universe seeps out of the chuubanite in the form of magical energy. nothing physical from our universe effects it, but concepts from our universe can, including concepts of physical things. you can't store power in it, and even if you could, it would dissipate into nothingness, so there would be no point in storing any energy in it. actually, your interpretation of storing energy is incompatible with the rentry, too. particle decay releases energy when the element in question radiates part of itself away, becoming a different, less unstable element. it doesn't absorb energy in it's environment, that energy exists as a result of the weak nuclear force. in my interpretation, the energy that is naturally released in the decay of chuubanite has only one non-physical effect, that being the ability to bridge the gap between our universe and another. besides that, it's basically just a normal radioactive substance. all the stuff we call magic is a result of conceptual energy that fundamentally does not exist in this universe naturally, and is a completely different thing from our universe's energy, but because of vitubium, which does exist in our universe naturally, our universe had adapted to the energies of both. either way, chuubanite does not store energy, nor does it merely emit energy, though it does that in a roundabout way. the energy that the chuubanite releases is part of energy that is inherent to the atomic bonds that made it, along with every other substance, what it is, the fact that chuubanite is unstable is the only reason that energy can be released in the first place.

Afaik, there hasn't been a thread decision saying chuubanite can't store energy, and all the stories I've read where chuubanite appears are compatible with either chuubanite storing energy or receiving it from magic, cuz at the end of the day we just see chuubanite emitting energy on our end.

>group of people begin to worship a particular chuuba, fetish, etc.
>this faith flows into the conceptual realm via chuubanite
>the faith is then replaced by conceptual energy and returns to Vitubia through the chuubanite
>magic related to the worshipped concept manifests
This seems to agree with the properties of chuubanite that were voted on by the reps in the bylaws, specifically with the shift in magical effects as borders change and believers of new concepts move in to the area. Is this compatible with your interpretation?

so, one asks if chuubanite should be a battery or a fuel source, and the other suggested that it stores energy, but is incapable of burning it, as a compromise when /nasa suggested a wind-up time dilation mechanism for /inf/ that i am pretty sure got revoked. neither of these suggestions imply chuubanite should absorb energy from it's enviornment and store it until it's released when chuubanite decays. there are a bunch of things i thought we agreed on as a thread but didn't put down on the decision archives, so idk if we made a decision on the matter, but we didn't care enough about it to work on it any more than we have.
>>24178823
when i think about how concepts pass through chuuba and come out as magic, i imagine each different concept having it's own unique signature of energy that is more or less compatible with other conceptual forms of energy, and has different affinities to different materials that the chuubanite can bind to. when the chuubanite binds to a kind of material that has high affinity to one concept, it effectively resists the others, but since the energy can have more or less afinity to other forms of energy, enough of one type of energy or the other can resist all the rest through competition. a two-way dominance of one kind of effect, especially with the inclusion of the right material, can create a more stable connection to the concept with the effects you are trying to replicate. basically, what you said is correct, but there is a process to the "replacing faith with energy" that is worth mentioning in my opinion. ya, it's compatible with my interpretation, what with it being my interpretation in the first place.

>> No.24180369

>ya, it's compatible with my interpretation, what with it being my interpretation in the first place.
That’s good to hear. Like >>24178341 said, it can be difficult to parse your posts at times. So in the case of the /risu/ diamond experiment, there are a couple factors to consider.
>the vitubium was bonded to a /morig/ diamond and had become Mori-affiliated chuubanite
>the chuubanite was triggered using a wand — a Risu-affiliated activator substance which is presumably attuned towards maximizing the effects of /risu/ chuubanite
>the activation was done in /risu/ by a risuner, making belief in Risu the dominant faith at play
Presumably then, changing these factors, such as using diamonds grown from a /risu/ gemtree, should affect what kind of magical effect is produced.

yes. it's the /morig/ chubanite that apparently absorbs heat from the environment and stores it, hence why their island is so cold despite it's climate being closer to madagascar's, but that isn't something chuubanite does in general beyond how it happens normally. the /risu/ experiment found a way to release that energy, but i would imagine that only /risu/ chuubanite would have the ability to make use of chuubanite gemstones, so it's effectively the combination of /risu/ and /morig/ chuubanite that caused the effect, assuming i am understanding it correctly.

Here is a possible interpretation of how the magical energy and chuubanite could work.

1. Magical energy exists as a field, the magic energy field. This field is like the gravitational field or the electromagnetic field, it spans the entirety of the universe, and exists everywhere in it. This field has a subatomic particle that is associated with it, the magic energy particle.
2. Magic energy particles are analogous to photons, meaning that they too are quantisised (their energies and/or identities exist as discrete values), and they too have wave-particle duality. The magic energy particle can be in superposition with itself. For clarity, i shall call these magic energy particles "magic quanta".
---> These magic quanta are observed in the magic energy field as standing waves that in some situations act like particles. The energy of a quanta is dependent on the amplitude of this wave.
---> When magic does work, aka, when magic moves energy around, it is the magical energy field doing the work. Magic quanta are being transported into lower energy states (lower wave amplitudes), or being annihilated entirely, with their mass being transformed into the energy that does the work.

3. Each magic quanta has an identity. This identity could be expressed as a simple sine wave with a certain wavelength. As the quanta can be in superposition, more complex identities can be formed from multiple simple magic quanta combining into a super-magic-quanta.
3.a. This combined quanta does not have the combined energy of the simple magic quanta, but it has a new identity which is a sum of the identities of the simple magic quanta.
---> There exists a fundamental set of affinities/identities a magic quanta can take. These fundamental identities can be combined to make more complex identities. Depending on the complexity of the identity, it may or may not be stable, meaning that magic quanta with more complex identities may spontaneously decay back into simpler forms.
---> Magic quanta can also be annihilated (as mentioned above). This annihilation process converts the magical energy field energy into forms of energy that are more familiar to us, such as heat, light, and movement.

4. Magic quanta do not interact with normal matter in the same way as the more familiar subatomic particles do. They may or may not be affected by gravity or electromagnetic forces.
5. Vitubium as a material is special in the way that it does not act the same way normal matter does. Whereas normal matter does not interact with the magic quanta themselves, vitubium does. Vitubium can also interact with normal matter the same way normal matter can interact with itself. Vitubium that has chemically bonded with normal matter is called chuubanite.
6. Vitubium "atoms" can store and stabilize magic quanta inside them. Normal matter cannot. Magic quanta outside vitubium quickly annihilates.
7. Since the magic quanta have wave properties, they could experience tunneling. In this case, magic quanta that were previously "bonded" to vitubium can spontaneously appear outside it. As the magic quanta are not stable outside vitubium, they almost immediately annihilate, releasing their energies. In real world, this can happen to electrons, and this property of electrons is utilized in Scanning Tunneling Mircoscopes.
---> The "decay" of chuubanite is not akin to radioactive decay, instead it is a sort of tunneling current. The vitubium atoms itself does not decay, it only loses the magic quanta that were bonded with it. Since the tunneling probability would be dependent on the surface area of the object, this form of "decay" would fit the rentry far better than radioactive decay would.

Sort of relating to >>24176804, each "concept" or "idea" would have its own unique waveform for the magic quanta. One could transmute one form of waveform into another by introducing or removing the right types of magic quanta with the right wavelengths to or from the combined quanta.
Chuubas and concepts could very well affect the magic energy field and then by extension, magic quanta and vitubium and chuubanite.

Under this interpretation, the morig diamond was not a pure diamond, it was a diamond that had impurities of vitubium, making it a type of chuubanite. In these impurities was bonded mori identity magic quanta. Like was suggested in >>24133863, the diamond combined with the risuner witch's intent would have taken the mori identity magic quanta and deconstructed it into more simple identities. The diamond in this case affected the magic quanta waveforms like a prism affects photons, it deconstructed the combined identity into multiple simpler identities, and released the magic quanta from the vitubium, causing the described effect. What the mori identity decayed into may be probabilistic, meaning that one would not get the exact same results every time, but one would have a chance of getting the exact same result any time.

Since i forgot that waves in superposition actually do increase or decrease their amplitudes, perhaps magic quanta energy could be dependent on the amplitude or wavelength of another wave, in which case magic quanta could be described as a combination of 2 different waves.
That, or the energy could be dependent on some mass-equivalent quality (but not necessarily mass, just something similar. Like charge.)

i like how you structured this. i don't know as much about quantum physics as i do about nuclear physics, so forgive me if it's a bit above my ability to understand, but you basically turned my "universe of concepts" into an invisible "magic energy field" with quanta instead of the conceptual energy, yet they still have concepts attached to them, so you basically turned my idea into quantum mechanics. you even have room that would allow the cylinder analogy to still be relevant in the stuff about how complexity affects decay rate, though i think yours is reversed from mine. that's awesome. i don't know how i feel about the implications that intent alone can change physical stuff, though. if you are using the same tool, i would imagine it would be better for that tool to not dramatically change its effect based on what happens in your mind alone. also, can quantum tunnelling be controlled to a high degree of precision with our current level of technology? depending on what effect the magic quanta have outside the chuubanite, it might be possible to have nonlocality as a fundamental aspect of magic in this setting, which would make it difficult for me to understand. correct me if i am misunderstanding something.

Yeah, the the universe of concepts into quantum shenanigans is pretty much what i did there.

The intent was more of a side thought I just added there when I was writing it for, some reason, I personally dont see problem with intent affecting the magic energy field but im also not really adamant about the idea either.

I do agree on the "same tools should have similar results" logic though. I feel like intent in the form of, say, a chant or a prayer would be reliable enough to be an acceptable way for "intent" to affect vitubium, since anyone can recite the chant or prayer. I really like the idea of using the magic being a sort of religious thing, while not necessarily dependent on faith since I like the idea of all magic being at least on paper available to anyone. So, a prayer / chant uttered by someone who isnt a believer in a particular deity would still activate magic of that deity, as long as there is the intent of activating the magic.

Quantum tunneling is a very probabilistic thing but you can affect it (in real world, for example) by increasing the voltage difference between the tip and the sample. Higher voltage means more tunneling current. In the vt world, I'd imagine that one could increase it by increasing the amount of magic quanta within a given space. Higher number of, or higher energy quanta could reasonably have a higher % chance to tunnel out of the vitubium atom.

On the reverse, if one could somehow raise the magic potential barrier between the inside and the outside of a vitubium atom, one could also lessen the rate of "decay".

I'd imagine the sort of technology needed for manipulating the tunneling probabilities would be way outside the capabilities of anyone in-universe, save for maybe /nasa/. Scanning Tunneling Microscopy as an example was developed in 1981.

>chant
lol, completely forgot about that. ok, that could make sense. how about the full metal alchemist-style "create your own runes/glyphs with your hands" idea, so instead of chanting, we get hand signals. the idea being that there is a little bit of chuubanite everywhere, including your fingers, and if it's further supported by other chuubanite formations, the hand signals, while incapable of producing anything on their own, can change some aspects of how the chuubanite reacts.
>tunnelling
i figured it would be probablistic, but can it be directed? you basically say the range of possible places it can tunnel to increases, but is there a way to be certain where it shows up relative to the source?
>reverse
i made an analogy for how i thought chuubanite should work. it would tell you how powerful a magical effect would be, how long it would take for the chuubanite to decay in use, and how much energy would be produced in that time. in my analogy, the cylinder's base would shrink the less specific your concept was, and the length of the cylinder would represent how common it was in the universe. the larger the base, the more energy could be burned in a single unit of time, resulting in a faster, brighter spark. you say that the more complex a concept is, the less stable it would be, resulting in a faster rate of decay, but depending of how you define complexity, it could either be that the idea that all other ideas originate from is the more complex one because it has more concepts it can break into, or it could be the opposite. now that i think of it, it might be closer to my expectation than i gave it credit.
>technology
so it's inevitable that nonlocal chuubanite effects will become dominant, but that time is not there yet. as long as it requires some degree of effort, it's better than not, but i would hope there would be enough of a drawback that people who want to balance their effects by making it only work on contact wont be so disadvantaged that they can't do whatever it is they want to do with it. ok, i think i like your idea. i suggest you link it to the archive so we can hopefully discuss it further.

>Chant and hand signals
I dont think those alone should be able to activate the magic. I think they should be used in combination with the activator substances and glyphs that were already in use.
>Directing tunneling
As it is by its very nature probabilistic, I dont think there would be a way to be certain where a tunneled quanta would end up at. You can be "fairly sure" in that its probably close to the surface of the vitubium object, probably away from areas of high magic potential, but this is only a good guess, not a certainty. In theory, the quanta could appear 100 kilometers north inside some poor kronie's milk goblet, but the chances of this happening would be incredibly small, so small that such an event happening shouldn't really even be thought about, but not 0. Never 0.
>cylinder
I dont recall reading the cylinder analogy before, forgive me for that.
You are right on how the complexity could be viewed. I didnt even think about that. My idea was simply that the simplest concepts have simpler waveforms (as in, closer to a sine wave), while more complex ones have waveforms that are different from sinewaves. As it is possible to construct any waveform from a combination of sine waves, so in this case I considered the simple waves being the originator concepts.

However, the idea that the originator concept would be the most complex one, in this case some sort of an incredibly unstable combination of near infinite other waveforms (all of them in fact), is a pretty interesting one too.

So basically there would be two ideas, "originator ideas as building blocks" (simple fundamental waveforms are combined to form more complex ideas), or "originator idea as a deconstructed source" (all concepts are deconstructed from the all-encompassing originator idea). I like both ideas personally, they've both got some good potential.

>technology
I'd imagine that for the first few centuries nonlocal chuubanite effects would be on a very small scale, as manipulating the individial magic quanta would require tools of extreme precision, which would have to be constructed with tools that do not have extreme precision, making the building of gadgets that can manipulate magic quante incredibly difficult and ludicrously expensive, for a relatively little gain. At first at least.

>I dont think those alone should be able to activate the magic
>the hand signals, while incapable of producing anything on their own, can change some aspects of how the chuubanite reacts.
>tunneling
so you can't even be certain of the direction. so basically, it's so probabilistic that it might as well not even be a factor people think about, and it possibly can't be used in a practical way even by /nasa/, it's just a quality of quantum particles. as i said, i don't know as much about quantum mechanics as i do about other stuff, but it's interesting to think about.
>simplest concepts have simpler waveforms
i gave the fibbonacci sequence as an example of a highly specific concept that is very common in nature, and "horniness" for /horni/ as a vaguer/broader concept that is also quite common. would you agree with that or would you see it as the reverse? if it's the same, then it might be a case of the stand alone complex, or just serendipity. also, i suggest you look through the archives for it, i went into a lot of depth in it, even going so far as to make a few equations for it, though i didn't want to define an individual unit of anything.

Woah, I've never seen /morig/ chuubanite get discussed this much without me being there, it's kind of nice.
Well, I don't have any particular authority in the matter, as /morig/ doesn't have a rep. But I did write the entries on the diamonds, and was involved with coming up with the chuubanite-powered explanation to the coldness of the Underworld (which only spans a region around Mt Mori, not the whole island, see the /morig/ climate lore).
So, it wasn't the specific intention for the chuubanite to store energy, I was intentionally ambiguous about what happens to this energy because I knew that all this stuff was undecided. As far as I'm concerned the energy can go power the volcano, get stored in a chuubanite battery, be annihilated, be converted into magic quanta, be sent to the Heavens, or stuffed directly up Mori's ass that'd be kinda hot.

>> No.24195987

>>24194400
>handsigns
ah my bad, thats what i get for multitasking
>tunneling
In theory i could see a limited manipulation of the places where the tunneled magic quanta end up in, but I dont see how this would be useful outside maybe allowing for the construction of a magic quantum computer in the far far far future, but I dont think we ever should take the world that far.
>horni
Horniness would definitely be a broad concept that is common in nature. Fibonacci sequence on the other hand would be a part of a larger set of ideas regarding mathematics and geometry, or perhaps a concept that is emergent from these more broader concepts. I am not sure i follow where you are going with this.
I'll got check the archives at some point. what should I search for? Cylinder?

Mossbacks cannot be domesticated. What you really meant to say is mossbacks cannot be tamed. Chocolate chip and ice-cream is doable. Donuts too if we get some cooking oil. Strawberry shortcake is a stable. Cinnamon rolls and French toast is easy. Mochi might be difficult because that requires a specific type of rice flour. Pies, shaved ice, brownies, crepes, waffles, and cakes are easy.

I'm going to assume anything C and below is trash and not worth it for Saplings. That is unless there's really something on the list that you personally would like to taste.

Dunno if you were there for that, /nasa/ made an agreement where /morig/ is shipping some durable food staples in exchange for long-lasting military rations for our navy. Among others, white rice, so you should have rice flour.

If /nasa/ has to we can process flour into mochi flour. I feel mochi is going to be a limited seasonal dessert for the summer. Also I'd love to send /morig/ rations in exchange for polished rice. We just have to get the food processors back online and- OH WAIT! Grand directive. Well your first shipment of rations should be there. The timeline is a git wobbly, but since the exchange was agreed upon over a month ago by now, some shipments probably got shipped before the civil war arc. The sailors are enjoying the rations! The good news about /nasa/'s rations is that they are full meals sealed in packages. So there's at least variety in your food for a varied diet. That said packaged food is still mostly starches, but there's at least dried milk and dried vegetables for fats and other nutrients.

Mochi has to be made with glutinous rice flour though. /nasa/ probably has the technology to change the starch content of flour but its way more convenient to just buy the rice from countries in the South Eastern continent aka /morig/. If you guy still don't have any flour mills not powered by space age tech then the mills near /who/'s port, where the goods are most likely to land would happily do it for a small fee.

Ok I'm back. So because /risu/ in the thread is just simple as fuck that's where I got the primitive thing from (that and enchanted forest) so because they're supposed to be essentially tribes I have the nation as essentially a bunch of loosely held together tribals that trade with each other. The one thing holding them together of course is their religion in Risu.
Every single risuner MUST and is DAMN EXCITED to take part in this tradition of giving all their nuts to Risu when she appears. Yes, giving literally all their nuts down to the last one effectively resetting the entire economy. After everyone's bank accounts have been fully drained and Risu takes all the nuts with her back to the temple the risuners live life as normal. This effectively guarantees that no risuner can become too powerful. And anyone and i mean ANYONE that is caught hoarding even a single nut to themselves or refuses to partake is thrown in the geese chambers. This includes outsiders btw so we will toss luknights, kronies, meatheads it doesn't fucking matter. November is a time of nut exchanging between all risuners as they are all nut connoisseurs.
Now as for the villages themselves there are of course un named minor ones and the larger ones. Each village would be led by an elder/chief whatever you want to call them. Of course each fleet of pinisi also has a captain as you all have seen. The ones that are "in charge" would be the witches. They are also something that I personally wanted to keep a secret since even most risuners don't know how they work but high rank risuners are allowed to interact with them as you saw with Reza when they returned from /morig/.
Witches are the reason why risuners are obsessed with gems as this is the risuners alternative to technology. As some anon says "MAGIC IS EVERYTHING" and to risuners this is true. Anyone who of course isn't permitted to see them just assume that witches are the forces of risu keeping them away from the temple.
Risuners spend their day of course collecting nuts. I mean why the fuck would you not. Its literally climbing trees to collect money. So the harder you work the more money you get. That fucking simple. /risu/ is simple. Does this answer the questions asked?

>> No.24226832

>>24226349
This might not be related to your economy, but what does Risu think of acorn nut bread? Also what do you do with everyone's nuts after they given them all to Risu? You have to send these nuts to Risu somehow.

>keep a secret since even most risuners don't know how they work
It's a non-answer but it works for me, I'll interpret it as a loose trade and alliance league between witches and village leaders.

Risu visits the villages herself (since risu is /here/) and collects them herself. All risuners visit the nearest major city for this. Since risu cannot hold all the nuts herself she has to put some of them in her mouth. The risuners with the most nuts get to nut in her mouth so this is the driving force for working hard.

Never really thought about this but I assume the kronies took volunteers and trained them. They were further trained by meatheads so the ones who were trained were the ones that became the exploratory fleets. They then passed it on other risuners over time. But Risu never announces whenever she's /here/ right? So another way of dealing with the collection is that it's probably done is that the collection is done by a sort of agent that's commissioned by the Village elders/witches. The nuts(culinary) are then stockpiled at various temples for Risu herself. There's a chance that Risu would be the one collecting your nuts(culinary) but the normal Risuers wouldn't know since every nutman would be wearing cloaks and interfering with them are a grave crime. The commissioning are also kept secret and the nut collection day is a rest day where no one is expected to go out, so no one knows whose out there collecting the nuts(culinary). Unless a chuuba announces themselves when posting/posting actual screenshots of them /here/, I think their in-universe identity and movement should be kept as a relative close secret.

/meat/ agriculture might actually work pretty well for /risu/ as well, since the climate's similar enough for them to grow (IRL it was used by people as poleward as the Iroquois), and it seems to be a relatively low-intensity farming method that isn't as demanding on infrastructure (it doesn't require tilling, although I see conflicting reports on whether it's done regardless). The more varied diet is probably more appealing to the forest-dwelling risuners as well, and depending on where the nutrients the /risu/ chuubanite's growth acceleration comes from, something that doesn't drain the land as fast might help keeping things more sustainable.

There are some, but they aren't as prominent since they're not as exotic to most of us, and are often widespread enough that we don't associate them with Norse people.
>lime plaster (used by both cultures)
>cutting silver coins (used by Norse, by virtue of Mesoamericans not having coins)
>Itstemoc was drinking whiskey before deciding to go wrestle people
I guess we might see more in aspects more related to ships and weapons, since /meat/heads use battleaxes and their ship hulls are more similar to Norse designs (although it has since been supplemented by carvel planking). That said, if you want to go with the old raider funeral idea, maybe we can get in some fighting training segments in the story.

24265371

Good morning, folks.
It's been some time, the schizos seem to have moved on, but /rose/ still hasn't reappeared. I think I'm going to begin working on /rose/'s transition into /OBSY/. For the sake of not interrupting /risu/'s visit, I'll say chronologically it should happen after they leave. Probably during the spring or summer, if I had to pick a season.
In any case, mapanons might want to change /rose/'s territory into /OBSY/ and such. Maybe we even absorb a bit of /HAHA/ and /NijiEN/ since it's based around a wave instead of one vtuber. I think all of the lore can stay the same, it honestly sort of still fits if /rose/ is hidden underneath /OBSY/. The lore doc might want to replace the name /rose/ with /OBSY/, but whoever updates that can also just make a new /OBSY/ section if he wants to do that instead.

>> No.24266415

>>24265371
Yeah, that sounds like a reasonable solution. If I was archive anon, I'd leave /rose/ in, but make it a subheading for an added /OBSY/ section.

Welll that's alright. And don't censor yourself. I write many stories all the time I don't finish. I even had an outline for a comic book I had to throw away completely because reality caught up with the story. Many of the things I wrote for the Sci-Fi comic started becoming true. So I abandoned the comic entirely. I still have the characters but I'm going to have to completely change the story of the comic. Which means developing a new art style and redoing character design. Yay...

At least if you keep a record then you'll have a backlog of ideas to fall back on. And if you can't finish the story then someone else will. Its a collaborative project after all.
