My question is mostly why her and not Amerlia or Cali or Kiara, she isn't in any significant way different - I know Korone got popular during pandemic due to yt algorythim promoting her videos, that's how I found out about Hololive in general. Did something similar happaned to Gura as compared to other ENs?

Mori and Ame in comparison have a much more honest and natural sub growth. And are not just a case of catching lightning in a bottle.

If youtube didn't shadowban half of her streams she would've double as much subs. Gura is legit the only holo-like in EN and she is better than some JP holos too.

she's a hit with the nips more then anyone else except for maybe Calli. Which is funny because she doesn't really speak japanese, but her singing in japanese is so on point she converted all the hard core nip fans on the spot. City Pop Shark won them over more then anything else (that, and the fact that dumb == moe, and gura is certainly not... sharp)

She's also a meme queen and gets English memes and meme culture far better then her gen mates which makes her more accessible to the English speaking weeb culture then her gen mates.

This is a popular misconception and if you believe this you're basically admitting to be a clipfaggot. Just because she mentions some old ass meme few times during stream that later gets clipped doesn't make some big memester; on the contray she often displays quite ignorance towards some of the newer memes.
Compare that to Ina who instantly gets even the newest memes and even bragged about having a dedicated meme folder. Or Ame who besides other things gave Ina for Christmas a literal shitpost. They both mention memes way more often that Gura.
The only reason you think Gura is so big with the memes, is because your projecting her last persona on her.

Had a really scuffed debut, took a while for her to really find a style she was comfortable with. Also her surreal sense of humor makes her less accessible to a general audience than Gura, and she's generally less tolerant of bullshit in her chat.

Her growth was almost as explosive as Gura's, and considering the combination of bad timezone for english streams and the fact that Rap is a very niche and divisive genre of music, I'd say she's doing incredibly well.

Awful voice, awful design, awful community, attacks other people, has no idea how to act in most social situations, I could go on and on but it'd be a waste of my time.

Personality isn't conducive to streaming, is low energy where most people want to watch high energy streamers. Streams tend to be very slow paced. Accent could be a turn off for some people (though it's a plus for others so it's hard to say if that's a true debuff). Seems to do everything in her power to debuff herself (has a schedule but constantly cancels, never reads super chats, doesn't push for milestones, collabs with unpopular girls like the IDs)

Gura exploded because she was accessible, has a strong understanding of mainstream internet humor, had a strong debut, and generally knows how to appeal to her audience. The fact that she actually has a really good singing voice and (unlike a certain treerat) isn't afraid to showcase it is also a huge boon in her favor.
Speaking of which, Risu really did have the perfect opportunity to explode in popularity just like Gura did, but she lacked the substance and wasn't willing to lean on her talents in order to maintain her new viewerbase. People like to shit on Gura for being a meme, but I think the difference in her growth and Risu's indicates that there's a lot more to her than just memes.
