the first arc of SAO was really not as good as people remember it. literally the only remotely interesting plot point was people committing suicide from the mental strain of being stuck in a video game or engaging in virtual prostitution and PKing to earn money for survival. And those plot points were entirely dropped after one episode and never mentioned again. Just like with Accel World the author is good at creating a somewhat interesting concept for a series and ruining it with unlikable characters and dumbing everything down too much after writing himself into a hole in the first 20 chapters but needing to keep the publisher happy for another 200.

But also MHA constantly kept the stakes high by introducing powers that were legitimately life threatening if improperly used and deku went through several arcs to be able to somewhat control them without completely shattering every bone in his body and even after that is still not able to use his powers at their fullest due to them being too strong for him to actually wield. It introduces a lot of stuff in the later chapters that really makes it worth reading and so far the anime adaptation has been pretty spot on with the manga so when that shit gets animated it's gonna be pretty interesting to see the general reaction to it.

Mushoku Tensei has a lot of good points like the protagonist's struggle with mental illness and serious themes such as the fact the world he's in isn't a playground and his actions have effects on the people living in it.

Except all the people it "inspired" just saw the fact he's a pervert that fucks his cousin and lusts after every woman in the story including his own mom and copied that part while leaving everything else out.

Part of it is just that serious isekai don't sell very well, otaku don't like being reminded of their miserable lives and normis don't like being put in positions that make them have to feel things beyond hotblooded action and horny fanservice.

You all have plebian taste in anime and bad criticism skills, allow me to correct you.
MHA is bad because of a lack of direction and any stakes that actually matter just get endlessly placated. The characters that die are usually given less than 5 pages of development and even the ones that have been there from the start barely have anything. Name a single plot relevant character train about uraraka beyond what you learn by chapter 20, you can not.
HxH is good because it's an adventure series, you don't need to have high stakes as long as you keep the setting fresh. Yet it still does have high stakes and arcs are long enough that characters actually get decent meaningful screentime before they're killed. Gon's fight with Hanzo gave that bald fuck more character development than most characters in MHA have gotten since chapter 1 in a single battle. Characters actually making choices out of personal stakes is what gets people to care about them.
SAO is good, the novel is anyway. The anime heavily butchers both Kirito and Asuna's characters, go read the Progressive manga if you want to see how they should be.
The first big Isekai was Inuyasha and I will not take any counter opinions on that.
The peak of the isekai genre is Zero No Tsukaima (the novels).
Shounen jump has not had a good series besides Chainsawman in literally years. Ne0:lation would've made it big if it was even more retarded. Witch Watch and Jujutsu Kaisen are of equal entertainment value and the fact that they're both running is a testament to how shitty the current wsj lineup is.

If you want something kinda battle royale style maybe Juni Taisen, it's not that great but it's certainly fun if you enjoy those kinds of shows.
If you enjoy shows with more historical action(swords and spears etc) and some superpowers mixed in maybe Magi or Fate/Apocrypha.
For strict historical combat Kingdom or Arslan Senki or Rurouni Kenshin.
If the entire series being CGI doesn't bother you maybe try Knights of Sidonia or Ajin.
Most of these are still pretty normie-friendly but action series usually are anyway.

What is this list I can't believe you would say these things. A "cool action series with no specific genre" default recommendation should always be Kabaneri or Kurozuka. Tetsuo Araki is the Micheal Bay of anime. Hellsing is one of those things that people don't realize is actually deep end anime like Pokemon or Precure.
"Guns and mafia style stuff" I'll give you Black Lagoon but only for the "guns" part. Replace the other two recommendations with Kekkai Sensen and
Baccano.
Battle Royale has Fate Zero and Eden Of The East. Juni Taisen is literally the worst thing nisio isin ever made.
Magi is good for historical action, but Fate Apocrypha is literally incomprehensible to people who don't know the Fate franchise. Replace with Akatsuki no Yona.
Historical action Arslan Senki is good but Kingdom is better imo.
Knights of Sidonia is horrifically normie unfriendly, good choice. People should watch the Blame movie too, it was better than people gave it credit for. I'm going to put Heavy Object in this recommendation tier too out of sheer willpower.
Also you've already seen Giant Gorg you should watch Milky Holmes season 1 and 2, they are the pinnacle of the comedy genre.

Eden of the East is very normie-friendly and was one of the big normie anime back when it came out so I didn't wanna recommend it for that reason. On top of that it's not exactly a hotblooded action series so that filters people that are easily bored. Same for Fate/Zero, I'm not gonna bother recommending shows you'll get from just asking /r/anime for recs and since it's in the Fate S/N timeline any normie weeb should know of it already. I'm generally okay with that sort of stuff but the stuff in the last few episodes really hit me in the gut. The stuff with Mitty was gut wrenching and I just couldn't stop thinking about it after finishing it. The movie was amazing and was such a roller coaster of emotions. I generally enjoy those kinds of stories, I'm one of the like 5 people who watched SukaSuka and enjoyed the ending without getting mad about it. It does irk me a bit when shows just use depressing scenes to milk the audience's feelings without any relevance to the story but I think Made in Abyss does it really well and doesn't lean too heavy with it. The last few episodes with Mitty had a very important relevance to Nanachi and Reg's character development so I really appreciated them.

Melodrama by definition is characterized by heightened emotional responses within characters. Maybe I just think about things less than the average person but 3-gatsu absolutely feels like a melodrama to me. Melodrama doesn't mean dramatic sense of a Shakespearean tragedy. Manchester By The Sea is a melodrama too and that's the most nothing film to ever get mainstream popularity. Anything that I judge as a character acting decidedly overly emotional over mostly irrelevant plot points I will label as melodrama. Toradora is a romcom with drama elements. Shigatsu is a drama with melodrama elements. And if you don't like Concrete Revolutio you unironically don't get it.
