If you're expecting a max of 2 viewers then you don't need to make it more awkward and raise the pressure for nothing. We shit on the predebut meme here, but that's because a lot of vtweeters are marked as 'predebut' and just don't stream.
Start streaming, and consider your debut stream for when you hit affiliate, as a celebration stream.

Streaming is super different for indies than corpos, and a lot of the indies you see do a mega debut are previously successful entertainers transitioning directly, have a background so know how to get everyone hyped, or get super lucky.

It can also be very cringe and a load of bullshit. In online roleplaying there is an analogous behavior which is to write out a deep backstory for the character. Then when they start playing the character it turns out they're nothing like it and they can't maintain the things in their backstory. It was just a load of bullshit and everyone knows it.

For someone that wants to predebut they better make sure it actually reflects how they are or an act they can pull off. If not and they're successful anyway they can just hope it fades away like an embarrassing memory. Don't debut just because you see others doing it. The point of a debut is to build hype for corporate chuubas and those with large audiences to start creating that parasocial relationship. It makes the audience feel like they on a 10 minute crash date with you so they feel invested.

It doesn't work that way for indies. At best you're going to get an audience of vtuber debut supporters who are other vtubers. You'll get big numbers on debut and nothing else the very next day when everyone leaves to try and shill themselves. Just get started streaming you can do a debut video when you hit Affiliate or Partner or whatever other milestone you want to celebrate when you have a viewerbase that will care.

A majority of people don't start with a guaranteed audience. The idea of a debut comes from how Japan handles subculture and idol stuff. It's entirely a corporate thing where they hire some space and introduce themselves to the public. I believe even AKB48 had a debut but ended up being the panty flashing budget idols of Akihabara for their regular job before they got big years later. Take that same concept and apply it to virtual idols and it makes even more sense because the internet breaks down barriers and makes it easy to access the event. It's still pretty much the same concept and backed by an agency or corporation.

The reason that western indies do it is because they are copying something they don't really understand. It's basically cargo cult like behavior. They mimic some things they see but there really isn't a point to what they're doing. It has less to to with their skills and more to do with having an established audience or astroturfing vtuber ciclejerking follow for follow audience. In the latter case it's fake and you hope other people will stick around but the chances are low, and a lot of it is down to luck or how well other vtubers sell you to their audience. If you have an established audience then it's also fake but for a different reason, because your audience was already going to watch, and isn't going anywhere.

So it has a lot less to do with skill of the streamer as an entertainer than you might think. It's more like larping until you stream again tomorrow like you did yesterday.

To be honest no one here would've been on the boat to begin with, no one here has a great model, a great design, or great (for the time) rigging. On top of being one of the earliest adopters, they were astroturfed to shit by their connections and had plenty of support from some very big artists that are even bigger today, some of which make up the top Vtuber artists and at I think two are in HoloEN. Artemis had a lot more going for them than your average would-be Vtuber not to mention a design that attracted a ridiculous amount of fanart.

I wanted to work on my last schedule, but instead i decided to backtrack and make something else entirely, using different inspiration. I think my "creativity" suits more modern designs, i can easier build upon this and make this coherent with all elements of my stream / brand, because it has easily recognizable elements that i can recreate at will. The previous design was a lot less flexible.

I want to adjust this a little more so it looks like an actual game menu, but i think this type of design just comes more natural to me. In true /asp/ie fashion, i succumbed to spending a disproportionate amount of time on "shit that doesn't matter".
