A big teary announcement, cancellation of streams across the agency to give fans and streamers time to grieve, and then a massive charity stream towards either a cure for what killed them, or a cause they cared deeply about. Past that, a big old hollow gap in you where that person used to be.

Your vtuber avatar is a symbol, it can be incorruptible, it can be everlasting, it will continue to exist as long as someone is allowed to inherit the legacy.

She has CVID (common variable immune deficiency), where her immune system is suppressed. Basically her body can't fight off diseases, so any condition she gets will be much more dangerous than it would be to a healthy person. It's kind of similar to AIDS, except it's caused by genetic mutation rather than contagion.

she has something that isn't AIDS, but is basically the same exact thing as AIDS.

that's bad on its own, but when she was younger, she caught sort of infection that fucked up a lot of her body and swiss-cheesed her digestive system, so she can only eat real mild stuff like oatmeal and apple sauce, can't walk, and needs plasma.

despite all this, she has amazing pipes and will warm your soul

you can get paid for giving plasma, guys. mousy can make it.

Nope, she legit has super aids. Vtubing is something she originally started as a way to reach out to the world after becoming bedridden.

>> No.231599

>>227360
Yep.

>>229367
Yeah, she's legit. There's a couple things on her YouTube from stream about it, the meds she has to take sometimes are fairly strong stuff so she tends to warn chat in case she gets sleepy or weird, she's been known to joke about it in that dark-humoured way chronically-ill people do sometimes, and the rest of the friend group are really sweet about it.

The cream π friend group (including VShojo members and some friends) had a VRchat before Hime's debut and Mousey remarked on how pretty the fireworks were, she never really gets to see them - and that caught in the throat of most of the others for a hot minute.

But she could be here for quite a while, given she can afford the good meds now and the life expectancy for CVID is going up.

Of course it could be anyone. We're in the middle of a pandemic and literally anyone can get hit by a bus or do an Etika at any moment. Enjoy it while it's here, memento mori.

Oof, yes. I remember that, too. But it's really nice to see her have such good friends and between vtubing, the discord, and stuff like collabs and vrchat she's able to do so much more than she ever could before.

Japan as a whole would generally rather cancel a show than replace a VA - and the few Western vtuber agencies also recognise how central the personalities behind the characters are to the whole thing.

None of them would ever try that, they'd just make a new character instead.

if my oshi was replaced like that not only would I rage I'd become an schyzo anti of the new one, as much as many chuubas play a character, its always to an extent, the real person is a big part of it and will never be replaced.

Black company that overworked and bullied the VAs, Miria/Ahopink was the first to be replaced. Huge backlash, the company reasons that they're Ctubers, not Vtubers, masses are not placated, dislikes/unsubs ensue. Whole group is eventually replaced, and now they're retiring them. Funnily enough the new versions have been the characters longer than the originals that were so loved.

I can't stand this when they do it in anime (specifically dubs) so I would much rather they retire the character than get someone else to voice them.

The character and the person are intertwined. The person puts on a character, but there is ultimately going to be part of themselves in there unless they’re really good at acting for long periods of time.

Luckily I can't think of any popular vtuber with mental health issues as prominent or obvious as Etika's.

>> No.243895

>>233886
Kizuna Ai's fall from grace is the exact reason why you don't do that.
The idea that vtubers are playing characters is only partially true, the fact of the matter is that the avatar quickly becomes a reflection of the person wearing it (as you'd expect when somebody is forced to "stay in character" for prolonged streams that they have to constantly put out.) If you replaced the actress, it simply wouldn't be the same character. Someone else mentioned anime but even anime has a better chance of replacing a character since the heart of the character comes from both the performance and the writing. With a vtuber the two roles are effectively being filled by the same person.

i already have a script written out for a pre-recorded video of an in-character farewell and "death" that ill leave to someone i trust to make sure gets streamed in the event that i die randomly, its basically designed to make everyone cry as hard as possible but leave a bittersweet positive message and stuff, yknow, the works

You couldn't be more wrong.
You aren't going to keep coming back to a chuuba's stream because you like the avatar and only the avatar unless you're really shallow. Their personality is what is going keep bringing you back. A real test of this is to watch some of a chuuba's stream where the Live2D is broken or is just a png, or maybe not even that and it's just the voice.

Even for chuubas who are obviously playing a character like Pekora, finding someone to replace just wouldn't work. They could say peko as many times as they want, but the the nuisances and personal touches of the person behind the camera would be gone.

Could you tell me the definition of death of them? Characters? VAs?
If it's characters - Any companies don't have a reason to give a death or hold a funeral for characters they invested for business sake.
If it's VAs - Most of the companies would just leave the accounts as they were, and you can call it "death" of Vtubers.
