Skills do matter. Just not gaming skills. Being "good at games" only matters if you are at esports level, and then that is your career (and way more cutthroat, you have to be perfect all the time), not streaming/vtubing. Speaking two (or more) languages, singing ability, just general charisma, art skills, everything like this is more marketable in the general sense than "I can play X game at a high level, but not good enough to be paid to do it as a pro". If anything it's a drawback, since to be that good at a game (but not good enough to be paid for it) you have to invest a lot of time into it, and they probably don't want you streaming the same game every day forever, despite all the APEX memes.

That entire tournament was a joke where they just put 2 Apex players on a team with some "influencer" to try to promote Apex.
Their teammate was completely useless and most of the people involved were pro players that were just fucking around. Selen was probably the only person involved who gave a shit which gave people the false impression that it was a serious event when she's just a menhera that gets depressed even when she loses in friendly matches.
