What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

>> No.22177091

>>22176781
It's cringe, but this cringe is still the standard. It's a question often asked ITT and the answer is generally that your name doesn't really matter.
My personal take is that it shouldn't be too long tho and if you can, make it rhyme.

>> No.22177155

>>22176488
Depends.
Is that account linked to anything that could be a problem, or was it just a streaming account? If you used to be a facecam streamer, then do you want to run the risk of your face popping up (for instance, in the shoutout bot)?
On the other hand, if you didn't do anything bad with it, then it's just a small boost at the beginning for you.

>>22176781
I didn't come up with a good one, to be fair.
You want something simple, distinctive, and without Ch, TV, TTV, VT, or numbers in it. You can maybe get away with replacing letters/numbers if you want.
For instance, AtropaEverwood.
It's obviously two words, easy enough to say, easy to shorten, and no numbers. Distinctive, too, which helps.

>> No.22177190

>>22176781
>how do you come up with a good name?
Open up a notebook and write down every idea you get. Write down names you like. Write down names of things. Combine them in interesting ways.

Depends on your take on opsec.
Can the email used to open it be seen publicly?
Can your account url be tied to your identity?

I know people say that you should review your VODs to see what to improve on, but going further and actually trying to edit those for YouTube videos actually revealed so much to me, granted they weren't streams but offline recordings. There are so many things I edited out, and converted 1 hour into 8 minutes. Even though I was speaking for most of that time with little dead air. Just because the air isn't dead doesn't necessarily mean it'd be entertaining. Then again I think the live twitch experience is quite different from edited YouTube content, so brief bits of air like that would obviously be more acceptable in a livestream.

for this, if you can't rig on your own, consider commissioning some fiverr rigger and getting the .cmo3 file and adding on additions yourself, it is much easier adding on things you want in cubism when the basics are already rigged for you, such as a mouth moving side to side, or you can pay another rigger who does these things to add them on to the original .cmo3 for a fraction of their original rig cost (varies from rigger to rigger, some may not want to work on another riggers rig, but it doesnt hurt to ask)

tiktok is the most common answer; clipping yourself and making content that can be digested while you aren't live is huge.
making memes and other goofy posts on twitter also can help but its a lot harder to get noticed with that
someone posted Lightoss a few weeks ago and how he literally make a video of him wiggling his model with free "arm holding a cat" asset on top of him and he got a bunch of interactions from that. Lex Parte was also a very small streamer but he posted a couple of short gifs and also some helpful obs tips on his twitter which got him picked up there; he went from having like sub 100 followers to 1k after he got retweeted by some bigger chuubas like hiiragi yuu

other avenues would be making memes with your model or just making banger tweets

honestly people used to talk down vchatters but hanging out in other chuubas chats and discords to a degree does help people remember you. if you follow someone bigger than you and interact in their chats a lot and they recognize you it really isn't that awkward to reach out privately
i've seen it happen /here/ where people with single digit ccv with get collabs with people at like 100+
as for tiktok (since i'm both people you replied to), you can do both, YT shorts and tiktok both have to be in the same 9:16 aspect ratio so if you're gonna make the shorts you might as well upload them to TT as well
there's other people its worked out for like Kainen and SunKenji so I wouldn't ignore it completely. 9:16 ratio also works for twitter videos as well so you can kill 3 birds with one stone

I am normally a Holo artist though, but if that one Niji fanart got some attention, should I just spam Niji art instead? Creativity streams (like art and music creation) tend to have endless value since it can be different every time. As for making Vtuber friends, I usually seek out other Vtubers with similar viewerbases to chat with on Twitch and Twitter constantly and i've retained about fifteen of them for the past few months, which means its probably working out. I gave you a follow on twitter if you're interested in making friends with someone who's somewhat new to the community.

Hmm, have you tested your model during the day? That's a good way to check if the lights are the problem. Do you move too much while streaming? if you're using vtubestudio, the webcam capturing can sometimes get wonky if you turn your head too much in any direction. I've seen vtubers investing on cheap iphones because of the motion capturing upgrade but webcam can be fine as well, you just have to be careful with moving too much.

Thanks for the encouragement, i might sound passionate, but it's probably not what will make me a successful streamer. I can't sell myself to anyone, if i don't believe in the product. I've been watching a lot more streams lately (since that's what i was criticized for and i found a couple fun peeps), and i do notice they have a lot more confidence and energy. I also think having money as a long term goal is a huge buff to motivation which i simply don't have. I don't think "just having fun" is the mindset that gets you anywhere.

Regardless, streaming like any other thing i subject myself to could help to build character and maybe despite already being in my thirties my personality could swing towards making me a more colorful person. I'll only believe in that possibility if i manage to open up a tiktok account though.

If i do give up streaming however, i can always dress up as the admiral and post jerk off videos on twitter for attention.

>I will get completely ignored because I don't have those same numbers
I mean, you will.
So don't approach them blindly.

Let's say you're a 5CCV streamer. With minimal networking, you can be relatively confident that most people up to ~10CCV will not hate you for approaching for a collab. I won't say anyone can hit 10, but it's relatively simple to peak at 10, even without raids.

But if you're a 5CCV, I wouldn't approach someone at 20, unless you're an actual friend, or they put out a "who wants to collab" post - 20 is not something you can just hold accidentally, it requires skill, luck, or grind.

I'm a 10CCV. I regularly collab with friends who sit on pre-affilaite numbers, because we get on, and it's a fun night. Collabs can help push numbers, but it's also fun to play with friends.

At 10, I'd feel okay approaching people if they sit up to around 20, or bigger if we're friends. Approaching Nyaru, who sits on ~70, would feel beyond me - we haven't interacted much, and my numbers would be a blip to her.

Be sensible in who you approach. and, worst case, make sure they're someone you've talked to.
