Thanks for your time writing all this up. In general the most fitting answer would be, it's supposed to be a silly jrpg caricature kinda design, the way i imagine him fighting is in the ballpark of cloud, where he has basically inhuman strength and doesn't really need to bother with proper armor / attire. I'm not a d&d nerd or realism enjoyer, i like medieval fairs as much as the next guy, but I don't really indulge in that sort of stuff.


I do want the outfit to make a little more sense though and not let your hard work go to waste. I'll use the hip belt to attach some more pouches / pockets, that way it has at least a purpose other than carrying the emblem. the sword in the back isn't meant for fighting just like that, but if we look at jrpgs this isn't the worst offender of unusable weapons. The outfit overall is silly i give you that, but it's sort of supposed to be. I feel like it could be benefit from being a little more form fitting, i like the volume but i do agree it looks like it would be hard to move in. There's a deliberate choice for not using armor, but that should mean he could at least wear something more comfortable. Afterall Cloud wears an outfit that accommodates his acrobatics even if the sword is ridiculous. There's also a scabbard missing for his main weapon, but I'm unsure if i want to add it. Seems like a minor thing I'm not entirely bothered with logistics.

As for the face, I can't really see what's the issue. Or how i would tell the artist to improve the face if i did. We went through a couple iterations already, i might go through a couple changes with him here but overall i think this is it. There might be a better version of it, but i think the face is gonna change a lot when turned into 3D anyways.

Here is how I would fix this if this was my job to do so. You can feel free to dismiss everything I write here, but I would like it if you heard me out.
If you don't mind as well, please give this critique as is to your artist for his consideration. I would like to critique his work directly to him for his consideration.

Rather than generic, it looks kind of dorky, like a face that you would not expect to see on anyone other than some bystander. I think there is more personality that could be given to the face relatively quickly and simply.
>The defense
I think you can pretty easily give the character proper defensive wear if you give it a tad bit more thought. I put chainmail underneath his sweater I gave him a strapped shield on the off hand, and armor on the backside of the glove, this is fine because the glove can't bend backwards anyway. I gave him steel toes and you could probably imagine that he has some shin defense underneath his clothes.
>The helmet
His overall look leaned towards heavy and towards winter. A helmet can give him lots of character and create anticipation for when he takes it off or puts it fully on. Helmets are pretty rare these days in fantasy design, it can look really cool and stand out
>Belts
I removed the massive sword and turned his emblem belt into a sword pouch belt. I made it a bit tighter around his waist since it is the primary cloths holder, and I added a pouch on the opposite side to the offhand
>dagger
I added a dagger to the shoe opposite to the offhand. This will make for a quick draw for dual wielding or fighting enemies who are too close to his long sword.
>scarf
I made it long enough to be effective in his extreme cold condition, I put it under the helmet so the metal won't freeze the skin, I gave it a pin so that it could hold on properly.
>I left the stylized bottom of the shirts as is. It looks cool and does not make things more or less complicated to wear.
>blazer
I removed the blazer with the shoulderpads. It was way too much. Maybe it could be stylistic town wear but for a warrior it is ridiculous. You have to consider than even cloud has an outfit that he can take off in seconds, one with just a sweater, right hand defense, left hand offence, baggy pants and some comfy boots. That is all he's got. You can get far enough in interesting design just by thinking about practicality and clan belonging.
If you look at the designs of Kentaro Miura you will notice that there are very few stylistic portions in the designs. The complexity comes out of practicality and the chaos of being cobbled together. They look incredibly iconic despite being entirely practical.

There's a bit of background noise when your mic is activated, it's most noticeable when you pause between sentences. Personally I prefer open mic without voice detection for clearer background sounds (not white noise). Unless you're going for ASMR though it sounds great.

Have you made a debut date yet? I think it'd do a lot for you to have a clear deadline. Especially if you're not in school + work.

As for debut date and time, I work 9–5 M-F full time, and don’t get home until 6pm at the earliest, so I can’t really stream until around 9 my time if I want to give myself time for supper and relaxing/getting ready for stream. I don’t know when exactly I want to do it, but once I’m comfortable enough with streaming and I start actually networking, I might decide on a date. Also getting a proper model/design would be dependent on that as well, as I’d probably get others to actually design and rig it (whether 2D 9r 3D)

hey, i care. i like people who get enthusiastic about stuff, especially designs and with him being realistic enough to say "feel free to ignore all of it" shows a level of maturity enough that I'm willing to respect his effort.

i couldn't really respond to all stuff here, because i went to bed after my last post. Generally I'm grateful about all the feedback and i think the artist appreciates it too, we are going through a couple things that has been said here, i even left him a link if he wanted to check out the thread, although i doubt he'll go that far.

I like the logical / realistic approach, but i think a couple of design choices that anons made don't fit into my world. Going back to what i initially said, the fighting style is closer to what Cloud does with acrobatics and unreasonable strength. His main source of power is the soul of an ancient dragon warrior to give you the idea of what cringe I'm writing up. (Ryu from Breath of Fire is a huge inspiration) We are also not fighting humans, most we will fight are beasts, dragons and the like. The way i imagine combat, armor is really redundant, even going so far to say even leather is overkill but you guys obviously can't look into my brain. I still want my character to be the logical type so his attire should make sense. He's a strategical fighter, even if his style is very simple. I won't get into too much detail, as it would likely just be boring. I definitely feel like a couple adjustments here look really good and we might go through a couple more iterations, funny enough the artist also posted Gran as a reference.

This has been a new and fun process for me, I'm fully aware this will do nothing for my streaming success but I'm investing in a hobby right now, not a career. I plan to never monetize my stream so it couldn't ever be. I want to tell the story of this character, and i think i have a good plan to do it through streaming.

Slow updates / few features is the price to play for a soft that isn't bloatware.
There are "free" (account required) alternatives to vseeface that are more developed (look in the OP), I remember trying one where you could pout, blew my mind. I wish vseeface could add such features quick but I think it's like just one guy working on it on his free time whereas other projects are backed by corpos.

You can lean forward and back (from the waist up), but you can't move your whole body, like you can't have your character walk back and forth.
You can export it to the unity based SDK and do whatever you want there though, including full body motion tracking (it basically supports anything unity does).
That will take a lot more work however as you have to learn to use Unity.

Check if everything works first. Stream and open your stream on a new tab, preferably private to emulate being a no-account viewer and watch yourself. During the stream launch a few games to stress test your computer, speak your highest and lowest tones, maybe sing something.
It's possible that your computer can't handle both uploading and downloading the stream at the same time, in which case you'll just watch the vod streaming.

It works... In theory. In practice, it's tricky to collab with random people. You want to hop into a VC or someything, even if it's only for a few minutes, and make sure you all vibe.

As someone who talked to BIG vtubers as 1000+ ccv, they're all /here/. Posting your link and shilling yourself here on /vt/ is no problem at all. You'll only get some hard looks if you heavily affiliate your content as 4chan pandering content because then they'll be wary of collabing or talking with you. Small corpos are more avoidant of vtubers that heavily affiliate themselves with /vt/ but they're okay with adopting some of it's culture as part of internet culture they can turn a blind eye to.

So basically if unless you go full 4chan like Kiki, you wont really have an issue shilling yourself and nobody would care. Also another secret is that shilling yourself on /vt/ is how big vtubers find out about you because twitter is so immense that /vt/ acts as a filter for decent quality ones.

This is absolutely not true, I can confirm this. I've been sent hundreds of viewers multiple times when I was just starting out simply because I happened to catch the attention of and befriend a large streamer at the time. While I did obtain a few whales, I was new so my content was very lackluster.
