The history of Respublika Owl, a rising nation on the western edge of the Holocontinent, is shrouded in mystery despite its relatively young age. When it was founded, as well as the state of the land before its foundation could best be described as vague. An interesting thing to note, considering both the pride of its citizenry and a not insignificant interest among the nation’s scholars regarding world history.

While no ages are specified in official records, its safe to say that these lands were not entirely unpopulated when the current populace of the republic arrived at these lands. Early records tell of long wars of attrition with the various tribes of what is commonly known as Schizos, the hilly environment proving defensible not only to the new settlers but also to the native tribesmen. These wars are often portrayed as a generally slow push from the western coast toward the eastern hills until the Schizo tribes were pushed into a corner and ultimately annihilated by a temporary coalition between the Hoomans and their various neighbors, the eastern mountains of the Brrat monks providing the anvil to the rest of the coalitions hammer. A hard fought and slow victory, that is how history portrays it. But what if there is more to these early wars than what official records would have us believe?

In the eastern hills of the Republic, there are tales of strange creatures roaming during the night. Nightmares, the locals call them. Monsters that snatch away disobedient children that stray too far from their families. To many, these Nightmares are simply fairy tales meant to scare juvenile Hoomans into obedience. Initially my research in the region was mainly meant to discover the origin of these tales and compare to various folk tales and monsters throughout the Holocontinent. My discoveries here have however been shocking, as it appears that there is more truth to these tales than I originally had believed.

Hiring a local hunter I had met in one of the eastern most villages of the land to act as my guide, he had brought me southwards along the mountainous border until we came upon a cave. It was good that we had come upon it during daytime, my guide had said, as that which dwelled here only stalked the hills at night. Curious, I wished to approach the cave for a closer look, only to be physically restrained by the Hooman. Insulting my intellect, he asked if I had a death wish. Apparently, he had not heard of anyone who had encountered whatever dwelled in those caves and lived to tell the tale. As he spoke, I noticed two red orbs staring at us from within the darkness of the cave’s mouth. Assuming it had the humanoid body shape that the tales spoke of, it appeared to be nearly two heads taller than myself. That said, I had not managed to get a good look before we were forced to make a hasty retreat back to civilization if we were to make it back before nightfall.

The following day, I had made it back without the local to guide me, as I had concluded he would likely try to prevent my exploration of what might be an incredible new discovery. For the sake of preserving my own life, I did not venture far in, but what I managed to see as the sun angled itself to peek as far in as it possibly could was just as confounding as it was concerning. The mouth of the cave opened to a larger room, wherein lied a large altar in front of a crudely made effigy of some sort. There was something on the alter which, while I couldn’t see it too well from my position, I could clearly make out the smell of. A cadaver. I must have let out a gasp at the realization, as shortly thereafter I could make out movements from the shadows in the cave. Long, elongated and thing limbs stretched out. Pale as a ghost they were, and I had little intent to stick around to find out how territorial or hungry whatever was stirring was.

My outing did however reveal two things about these cave dwelling creatures, as what lived there was quite clearly not truly human.
1) It has a significant level of intelligence considering that, while crude, it was either able to craft or find and use both the altar and the effigy in a way like how a human would.
2) It appears to have some sort of ‘god’ with its own form of worship. I do not think it’s possible that it was just mimicking other religious rites as it likely has had very little opportunity to observe various human traditions.
If the latter of the two could be observed in multiple instances, it would mean that there is some form of communion between these creatures. Indeed, it might even be that there might actually be tribes of these creatures, and that I had simply retreated too soon in order to confirm if it was solitary or not. Could these be remnants of the Schizos of the pre-recorded history of /who/, or could there be a different reason behind why these creatures dwell in the area that was the final zone of battle for the Republic’s establishment?

Good read. Though I suggest maybe adding a little tidbit about why don't the villagers inform the military or other relevant authorities of the missing persons. Maybe the villagers are doing something illegal themselves(smuggling, growing/manufacturing of banned drugs?).
If you still had the nightmares as remnants of past super soldier experiments, the military should be pretty active in keeping them under wraps. So any irregularities should be noticed and cleaned up relatively quickly.

The sun begins to peak over the slope of Mt. Mori. A young shrine maiden sweeps the grand temple courtyard all alone. Her absent mind wanders idly to memories of the night before. The star scholars and head priests were correct: last night's meteor shower was exhilarating to behold. The young girl's face grows hot, her steps uneven, remembering with embarrassment the unrestrained jubilation as she and her friends twirled and cheered together beneath the fleeting starlight like they were still schoolgirls. She must have looked so foolish! She dreaded imagining the faces of her senior priestesses as they must have been watching her act so childish last night.

But it was fun...

She stops where she is, and turns to admire her handiwork. She's been up for hours, but she wanted to make sure her cleaning duties were done before she left the temple to visit her family. It's a few hours' walk to the nearest town, so she should hurry if she wants to snag the best morning confections from the bakery before heading home. Her little brother liked the apple pastries, if she recalled. She wondered how much he's grown since last year.

The temple grounds are swept spotless. The lanterns are strewn overhead. The troudabours have the goddess' songs committed to memory now. The cherry trees are in bloom. The Festival is soon upon us.

OGsuner. With a lore update to better detail the major settlements of /risu/.

Silvanus- The biggest and most fortified settlement of risu, it is also the only one that can be seen from a vessel as parts of it are on the beach. Fortifications became necessary once /meat/ raids began occuring. Pic rel for visual
Gaputan- A quiet settlement that is the main hub for traders at /towa/. Theyre skilled at fishing and nut collecting but are also known for having small traditional farms where they can grow other kinds of nuts and fruits.
Kenkerto- A port settlement that became the initial contact point for /inf/ and began the alliance that changed /risu/ forever. Recently has seen a massive boost in population and activity with talks of it being one of the main production areas of the new pinisi class vessel.
Pasuma- Being the settlement closest to the temple of risu, pasuma gains a massive boost of regeneration magic thats more powerful than most areas. This is the initial contact point during the annual nut tribute and many nearby villagers flock here every year to give risu their nuts. Very strict rule of no settlements being any closer.
Sabatangan- Famed for their prowess in fishing. Recently became a port city along Kenkerto thanks to the influence of /inf/. Unlike kenkerto, the docks here are much larger and more numerous with many planned pinisi to be built in this area.
Panrong- Serves as the main settlement for traders from /mep/ as well as being the place with considerable amount of molerisuners. Popular mining facility with rocks and gemstones being traded among all other major/minor settlements.

That would basically be a few [months, years, insert timescale here] after the split from Japonia, as one of the reasons the exile even happened in the first place was because of excess population.
Dunno if if each nation's initial settlers appeared at their current place after the split, or in a centralised area (ie hlgg for Holo, 2434 for Niji, etc) and then branched out.

For fuck's sake. Okay I'm going to be retarded and say you should have volcanic deserts around the live volcanoes. The ground is simply too hot for vegitation to grow regardless of rainfall. If you do have lots of rainfall then the land could be like a warmer Yellowstone the further you get from volcanoes. That said you're on a young hotspring where the soil probably hasn't had enough time to break down into anything farmable. That said Sakuran can still have subsistence farms and gardens so long as they rotate crops and have a solid amount of composte. Even if the water is warm it can still be irrigated with pumps and wells. You just have to let the water cool before using it. Wish I can open the map to see rainfall. I do know /rrat/ is north of Sakuraun. Perhaps the lake has have a smaller creek that goes into Sakuraun?

That's my idiot take.

>> No.21601952

>>21601237
Continuing. Now that I see the map Sakuraun should be close enough to the coast on both sides as a penninsula. Rainfall is going to happen. Which means Sakuraun is going to have lots of ground water. Which is good news because this means Sakuraun is both a hot spring and geyser paradise. The abundant ground water should also mean in cooler areas there's volcanic forests. Granted the soil quality is still too poor to farm in forests. You're only going to get tall slender trees. However trees do have leaves for compost. So you can harvest a bit of the top soil and tree leaves in the fall. Let them decay in winter. And then use the fertile dirt to grow shallow earth crops and herbs. Sakuraun to me seems like a great place for squash and pumpkins. But I'm no expert farmer. Wish I can open climate map right now.

Thank you both! Just a post containing additional info I though might be useful.
I've attached a pic of a clean close-up of the land (top in picrel).
Volcano reaches a height of ~1583m. (though it'd be useful if you pointed out how height changes could affect the climate)

Bottom pic in picrel notes the volcanic zones:
Innermost purple circle is the volcano caldera at about 15-20km,while the pink lines around it are rifts where lava also flows out from. Lava temperatures reach up to 1200°C, and lava flows for a couple tens of kilometers.
The pink circle is the extent of where lava flows end, typically lava cools and stops flowing before passing this threshold.
The blue circle designates an area where lava flows exist deep underground but, being further away from the main caldera and fault lines, means their only exits are from occasional explosions of cinder cones. Unlike non-explosive lava flows from the main caldera, these lava flows are explosive, spewing thicker, cooler (<1050°C) magma that travels for a few kilometers (<5) before stopping. Of the 5 cinder cones marked with small red circles, only the two easternmost as currently active.
The final green circle contains an area where magma used to reach in the past, when the volcano had been more active, but no new lava flows have reached it for the last few tens of thousands of years, as the volcanic activity has been decreasing slowly.
Beyond the green circle, the land hasn't seen any volcanic activity, apart from maybe the one that created the land millions/billions of years in the past.

Not my best, but this should do. I hope it's to your liking.
In terms of major climate zones, Sakuran is divided into three parts. Easter Sakuran, due to it not being exposed to the cold current coming from the west, has a more stable rainfall pattern, putting it in the humid subtropical climate (Cfa), think southern US or Uruguay. It is reasonably wet, and is probably quite suitable for agriculture in terms of climate. In particular, the river flowing between Sakuran and /micomet/ can probably bring enough nutrient to the riverside land to be Sakuran's rice bowl.
Western Sakuran, however, is more affected by the cold current, making it an overall drier place. This is further divided into southwestern and northwestern Sakuran. Southwestern Sakuran, due to its proximity to the Northern Tropic (Tropic of Cancer), is overall dry, making it a hot semi-arid climate (BSh). It is not as dry as the hot desert that likely dominates a good chunk of Sora, but the dominant plants would still be shrubs,. grass and cacti. It is most similar to the Texan-Mexican border IRL. Near the tip of the volcano, the altitude makes the environment colder (but still generally dry), likely putting it in cool semi-arid climate (BSk) instead around 2000m altitude (yeah, I wrote this before >>21622607). A good chunk of central Spain is of this climate.
For Northwestern Sakuran, it is likely to have a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Cwa) due to it being near a warm current on the temperate west coast of the continent. It is similar to humid subtropical climate in the east, except its rainfall pattern is reversed, meaning that its summer will be dry while its winter will be wet. It is most similar to SoCal or, well, the Mediterranean IRL. Similar to humid subtropical, it is reasonably suitable for agriculture, although instead of wetter crops like rice, it is more suitable for drought-resistant crops like wheat. Mediterranean climate is also famous for grapes, olives, and vegetables (you might know it as the Mediterranean diet) - basically, if you can find it in a salad, you can probably grow something similar there.

>> No.21623163

>>21622607
For the volcano, depending on how active it is, eruption material and acid rain might cause places that would otherwise be suitable for agriculture to be barren instead. During winter months, the prevailing wind will be northeasterly, so its effect should not be noticeable (it's a desert anyway), but during summer months, the holo monsoon will cause wind to blow from the southwest, which might be troublesome for the more fertile northeast depending on how far the ejecta goes.

>> No.21623568

>>21623026
>>21623163
Thank for the analysis!
Regarding ejecta, I'm not sure how far they'd go, I was hoping I'd get to question the geology anons before asking for climate stuff, though I wouldn't expect them to go far beyond the blue circle. That's already like 300km in diameter.
Would you say that the area within the green circle would be arable, or would we have to go beyond that? Also, keep in mind that the western blue circle is home to a few sulphuring springs (effects are obvious I think) and more importantly, iron springs housing bacteria that harm tubers and roots, especially potatoes and sweet potatoes. Not sure if they'd be able to travel through ground water to the surrounding area, or indeed how far.
How would changing the max height of the volcano affect the surrounds, ie would making it taller increase rainfall?
Also, any chance you could make some suggestions on vegetation? If not that's fine as well.
By the way I'm a Med so the northwest sounds like /home/

>> No.21623589

>>21623026 (Me)
A word on vegetation: both humid subtropical and even a good chunk of Mediterranean climate would be covered in forests of some kind without human influence. However, their optimal environment for agriculture also means that many of them would likely be deforested as civilisation develops (Mediterranean climate is also prone to periodic wildfire, which definitely doesn't help). As such, I can see many of the original forests in Sakuran being logged down and replaced with farmland, orchards, and vineyard.

>> No.21623871

>>21623589
I was looking at satellite imaging for reference, and it's pretty fucking incredible the impact that human activity (mainly agriculture) has on the appearance of whole continents, even looking from space.

>> No.21625229

>>21623568
It's hard to tell, since the main cause of volcanic desert isn't the flow of lava itself (although I guess being covered in lava also makes it non-arable), but the airborne fragments and smokes coming from the eruption. In particular, they tend to be rather acidic (which is why they create acid rain when combined with rainfall), which is generally not good for plants we usually eat. That said, it can be mitigated by fertilisers that reduce soil acidity, namely agricultural lime.
For non-airborne elements, though, I don't think its spread would be very far, so we can probably say that the area between green and blue circle shouldn't have their fertility be significantly affected by volcanic activity.
Changing the max height of the volcano mostly affect its (non-erupting) temperature, although the land would be mostly dry regardless. However, while it being taller likely would not increase rainfall, it could potentially generate a lot of fog in areas with steep slopes, which could be harvested for additional water if the people are creative enough.

For vegetation, assuming no human intervention:
>Mediterranean: a mix of forests and shrubs, plants here will likely be adopted to the dry summer season, meaning that they'll likely have hard/waxy leaves with short stems (known as sclerophyll or chaparral), so you can probably expect oak, olive (naturally), strawberry, cedar, and pine as the main trees. Vegetation will likely be denser around sources of water.
>Semi-arid: primarily shrubs and hardy grasses (cacti is probably the most famous plants thriving here, although be noted that it originated in the Americas) due to its overall drier condition, although some trees (most famously acacia/wattle) manages to grow here as well.
>Humid-subtropical: Primarily mixed woodland. Oak, walnut, elm, camphor, bamboo (technically not trees), cedar, spruce, and gingko are some examples, but you likely won't see any of them being particularly dominant.

In terms of plants that are useful to humans, Sakuran can probably grow grapes in the NW, and citrus in both NW and E, as well as wheat and rice respectively, although both are hardy enough to be grown on either side with some agricultural techniques. Cotton and tobacco can also be grown, although extensive irrigation might be necessary in the west.

Wanted to write a little something on the topic of the /morig/-/kfp/ naval cooperation.
Any KFP here got some critique on the accuracy of my representation, or suggestions?

Professional relationships: /kfp/ and /morig/

She strides into the bar, with the steady gait of an experienced maritime officer
“Jürgen! What a fucking drunkard, I knew I’d find you here.”
A uniformed Orange Beret sergeant looks up from his corn nuts to glare at the intruder.
“Samantha? You salty bitch, what are you doing here?”
“Got myself assigned to the harbor for a while, some logistics chores to take care of. You know, got work to do, can’t spend all day in the bar dodging my better half.”

She plants herself on a stool next to the sergeant and gives the barkeep a well-practiced hand signal, prompting a pint of nearly black booze.
“The pot calls the kettle black, you just do it on a ship instead.”
“Oh ho, marriage is making you witty, ain’t it?”

Bone white skin stretches over her cheekbones as she smiles at the jab.
“Anyway Sam, how are you liking Kaiserreich waters? Enjoying the weather?”
“Oh, the sea’s nicer near the Nijicontinent, but the lack of /meat/heads here is pretty nice. Hunting down your schizo pirates and eggs is a cakewalk compared to the defensive campaigns of /ggg/.”
“Huh, I thought you’d be the type to enjoy that living-on-the-edge lifestyle.”
“Schizos don’t try to bite my tits off while I skewer ‘em. You have no idea what fighting those bastards is like, ya’ll have it easy here.”
“Hah, get off your high horse, I’ve fried enough trinitarians to be spared that.”
“Fine, fine, let’s skip the cock-measuring contest for today, how’s the wife?”

A prideful smile creeps onto his face.
“She’s good, she’s gotten so big! We think it might be twins”
“Fuck, Mori help us all. One more Jürgen was already too much.”

The woman produces a golden /morig/ doubloon from her pocket, holding it curiously between her index and her thumb.
“Hey, you’re the one who asked. Anyway, I get a feeling you had a purpose walking in here.”
“Yeah, how about that gunpowder?”

Jürgen raises an eyebrow.
“Gunpowder? What about it?”
“I was going through our warehouse's stores, supply’s getting low. You’re going to the national arsenal farther inland, right?”

Her thumb pushes the coin towards her first knuckle, but it slides off and clinks loudly on the hardwood floor.
“Ah, careful. I am, want me to put in a word with the quartermaster?”
“You know nothing gets done if it’s just my bony ass sending semaphores.”

The second attempt improves on the first, but the coin slips and falls at the second knuckle.
“Your native freund hasn’t taught you how to get things done here yet?”

She reaches down to pick up the doubloon.
“He’s taught me you chickens get clingy if your girl is at sea for over a week, not much else. Can you do it? Sinking pirates goes way faster if we can shoot ‘em.”
“You know I can, but what the hell are you doing?” The sound of gold striking the planks resonates in the small establishment a third time, to Jürgen’s dismay.
“I saw a sailor do it, this dance-the-coin-on-your-knuckles thing? Looked cool, I’m trying it out.”
“Fuck me, you’re such a dork. Alright, but you’ll owe me. I reckon we can get you stocked up in two weeks, I’m headed to the mountains tomorrow.”

Samantha flicks the gold up and catches it in her hand, a “cool coin move” she manages to execute.
“Sounds good, I’ll just forget the third time I saved your ass, a couple more of these and we’ll be even.”

Jürgen shakes his head, but his eyes light up at the memory.
“Hah, something like that. Say, heard anything about this deadbeat jeweller who just boated over? The wife’s been nagging me about Mont Mori diamond earrings.”
“Pffft, way, way out of your paygrade Jürgen! Maybe the Kaiserin can buy you a pair for your leal service in fifteen years...”

Depends on how picky you are about the type of cherry blossom you get. Prunus campanulata (Taiwan cherry) seems to be the most suitable type of cherry, although it seems Prunus × incam (Okame cherry, which itself is a cross involving Taiwan cherry) also grow well alongside some SoCal cherry tree types.
The usual kind of cherry blossom seen in Japan requires at least a month of almost zero degree Celsius to blossom "properly", so Sakuran probably won't have them. Of course, if you really want the archetypical cherry blossom, there's nothing stopping you from having a species that look the same but is more tolerant of warm weather.

One thing I know is under-appreciated about /nasa/ is our workflow. /nasa/ is really good about planning things and executing them. Perhaps its because /nasa/ is familiar with the Ford assembly line where its more efficient training one man to assemble one part instead of training one man to make everything in the machine. Sure /nasa/ has to have jack of all trades astronauts. However those astronauts can quickly find a role that suits their strength. /nasa/'s workshop forge for example has a team of 10 people to make the tools one step at a time. Its also the same with farming. We rotate jobs but there's always a tiller, waterer, harvester, etc. Even when something goes wrong we have emergency response plans for just about any scenario. Granted it is impossible for an individual to know how to handle every crisis in the world. But there's enough diversity in minds that there is always someone who would know exactly what to do based on what they know. Command is a bit more modular thanks to our educated workers. That said we do sometimes run into crisis where two minds debate too long. In a fire time is everything. This is where experienced elders come in who know what risks they need to take to save time.

Deep space travel is a risky venture. If you cannot take risk then you cannot deep space travel. Its the same with sailing a ship. There's always something that can go wrong that sinks the ship. Education of individuals are highly valued in /nasa/. You don't have to know everything because such knowledge is impossible. What you do have to know is just enough to work efficiently and to survive. Also knowing how to search for resources in the ship's database helps too.

Very nice way to tie lore and creative writing together, It took me a second to realize that they are colleagues but they make for a really funny dynamic, also her failing at the chuuni coin flip is just super cute!
Love the semaphore network reference, and I can really Imagine knowing someone in the military can get supplies moving a bit more quickly.
Only one small addition: (difficult to catch because it’s only in the /meat/ archive, but not in the /kfp/ one)
While there are no /meat/ raids, so no military presence, there are small amounts of goods being trafficked from /meat/ to /kfp/ via civilian traffic
I would assume mostly via meat ships since /kfp/ isn’t a large sea power.
So the question arises how /morig/ deals with civilian meat ships…
These goods are mostly spices for food, so pretty harmless, however a small-volume slave trade pleasuring the top .01% exits as well.
So we might have a situation on our hands that resembles Casablanca or Switzerland during WW2 maybe even something like Montague against Capulet.
Maybe /kfp/ officialls outlaw engagements or hostilities in their territorial water and port cities but realistically a fisticuff between drunken sailors is pretty common (more common than usual at least)
Also since kfp are also just humans with empathy and eating humans is gross the public opinion would probably be slightly in favor of the deadbeats
What do you think?

I wonder how much of a difference /nasa/'s rations would make in KFP's and /morig/'s navy? /nasa/'s rations if compared to today's food would pre-packaged meals like Hamburger Helper or instant ramen noodles. Though they'd be closer to MREs as the food would be better preserved than commercial pre-packaged foods. So I read that the rations only last for three years. I'm going to say preserved space tech will allow the rations to last for up to five years.

Age of exploration rations are terrible. Outside of canned vegetables that don't last half the voyage rations are usually hardtack and salted leather to put it politely. Each MRE package has enough calories and nutrition for a 2000 calorie per day diet. MRE's are a variety of dried vegetables, dried milk, and rehydratable meat, and pasta that all cook together. MREs also have peppermint candy to make meals not suck as much. Its better to eat the peppermint candy at the end of the meal as desert. I'm judging this from my own experience with eating an MRE in boy scouts. We shot guns that day too. Good times.

Thank you! We discussed that with /meat/ a bit some time back, basically civilian /meat/ traders of common goods wouldn't be apprehended at all, since they can plausibly be unaffiliated with /meat/'s more unsavory activities. After all, /morig/ is opposed to /meat/'s blasphemous activities, not its very existence. Within /morig/ waters, patrols would likely do a bit of ethnic profiling and hail them more often than others, to sniff about for any excuse to mess with them, like a cop looking for weed in a basketball american's glove box, but they'd have to adopt a gentler touch in an ally's territory.
For example, a slaver ship in /morig/ or international waters would prompt an arrest or a fight, depending on the perp's response, but agreements with allies would force deadbeats to play nice if the slaver is going about perfectly legal business according to local laws. /morig/ sailors in those posts would probably get in situations where they have to let a slaver ship go by unmolested Samantha feeling internal struggle entry idea?. I can imagine they would get very conflicted about those events, and there would be some deadbeat ships patrolling outside of those maritime borders, specifically trying to catch those ships before they got to safety in /kfp/ waters.
Since the slaves coming into /kfp/ are high-grade ones destined for the nobility, there would probably also be a dynamic where those slavers would have the means and contacts to camouflage the slaves as passengers and the ship as a perfectly normal vessel, which would be harder if you stacked three dozen chained up, bleeding raid victims in your hold.
And yes, deadbeat and /meat/ sailors would absolutely be looking for excuses to throw down when on shore leave kek.

I believe /morig/ already has an agreement with /nasa/! We're sending them locally grown foodstuffs for rations for our navy. If you look up MREs on Wikipedia and look at the menus there's quite a variety of dishes. And when /nasa/ gets a coffee supply then you bet we'll add instant coffee to rations as well. /nasa/ was very careful with selecting both dishes that are known to the age of this world as well as new modern dishes that can't be made yet. And as always you want to eat your rations when you have literally nothing else left to eat. Also the nutrition should keep away scurvy. We've also included dried fruit-drink mixes. All you have to do is measure fruit-drink powder with appropriate amount of freshwater. We have lemonade and fruit punch flavors. They're pretty good on Vitamin C and electrolyte minerals. Still can't replace fresh fruits. But its better than nothing.

In the heart of the Rice Belt of morig, many kilometers past the golden fields of grain in the shadow of Mt. Mori to the north, there exists an old abbey, modest in stature but nevertheless crafted with intricate care, standing in graceful solitude, watching over farmers working dutifully in their paddies. It is not a shrine, nor is there a scripture stele anywhere on the premises denoting it as a site of worship. Curiously, it is dedicated to a foreign goddess of harvest, considered a compatriot of the death goddess. Deep Scripture states that the she acted as salvation and guidepost to the goddess prior to her ascension, so she is nonetheless revered in a sort of cult manner by the residents of the island despite not being recognized by the local pantheon.

The abbey is not formally recognized by the Goddess Faithful as an official site of worship, but they nevertheless maintain the abbey by facilitating seasonal rotations of a small group (2-4) of shrine maidens dispatched to act as caretakers. Receiving actual worshipers is rare, but they are not unwelcome. The building—and its dedicated goddess—is nonetheless a precious thing to deadbeats.

We still have a limited supply of people, power, water, and fertilizer. There are some crops that are fine growing outside in the south where its more mild. Wheat, carrots, sweat peas, etc. can be grown outside as natural as the greenhouse. We've already drilled up irrigation wells and tilled the fields. Internally we have four greenhouses at different climates to cover most of our nutritional needs. We can rework the greenhouse we used for our wheat crop into a peanut crop to help recover the soil's nitrogen. Then we'll rotate greenhouses once that harvest is done. Its mid-spring. So we got plenty of time to work the soil.

Republic Owl / Pecпyбликa Филин / République Hibou / 共和国 ワシミミズク
Information corps

Information, be it scientific, technical, or folk, is an important form of advancing the power available to humanity, unfortunately, there are those that wish for their techniques to not be spread or known about and keep them under wraps, and equally there is such information that must not fall to potentially dangerous elements. This necessitated the creation of a govermental department of the Republic dedicated to intelligence and counter-intelligence.
3 different "information corps" active during wartime were consolidated into a single entity by various diplomats and leaders of the nation:
The 1st being "Special Diplomatic Division" (SDD). Agents that the Republic had for diplomatic and interstate activities, these were mainly involved in obtaining and stealing anything that comes from other states and political entities, also dealing with backdoor deals.
2nd was the "Military and Disciplinary Action" (MDA). The information Corps of the Military before consolidation, while the SDD dealt directly with interstate activities the MDA was originally tasked as an internal police force for the armed forces, it very quickly evolved into an espionage force for obtaining enemy plans and infiltrating their leadership structures, penal battalions were often used and reformed into units for these goals, in short, causing as much mayhem inside enemy formations and knowing their next steps.
3rd is a tad different from the others, being originally formed by lower class citizens and middle class merchants to "Protect the Republic" the "Republican Vanguard" (RV) was an extremely violent and aggresive counter-intelligence volunteer organization that wished to uproot any potential infiltrators and enemy agents, their success rate was originally quite low, they very quickly gained much experience and became an extremely competent organization.
Further information about these organizations and their structures has been scrubbed from books, althought inferences can be made based on records about how they acted.
All of these organizations were forcefully unified and consolidated in structure into the Republic Intelligence Division (RID) by multiple leaders of these organizations and by pressure of the Republic itself. Notably, the main reason the organizations united is said to be due to a shared interest in technology and intelligence regarding technology. Thus, the new organization took on all previous duties and jumbled a lot of its personnel together to maximize its experience and has a current interest in tech stealing. Very few is known about its activites since the consolidation however.

I tried looking up information about what /who/ likely has in terms of minerals. From what I can tell, the more hilly area of /who/ is likely some kind of foreland basin - the land folding because the area east of it (/rrat/ highland) is being lifted up due to continental collision. RL examples of this kind of terrain includes Junggar Basin, Po Basin, and Aquitaine Basin.
Because of the (somewhat) active volcanism and the fold structures, eastern /who/ will likely be relatively minerally rich, although maybe not as rich as those with a continental-oceanic subduction zone (which effectively melts the oceanic plate subducted under and cause its minerals to bubble up). Copper and iron can probably be expected as the main metal being mined there, although tin, gold, lead, zinc, and silver will likely be present in smaller quantities.
Another common resource in foreland basin is hydrocarbon, since the folds create traps that allow petroleum and gas to emerge in more accessible locations. That said, the accessibility is relative, so how exploitable the oil reserve is remains ambiguous, especially with our current tech level. Coal might also be present, although the pressure there is likely not enough to make them anthracite, so bituminous coal might be more likely as carboniferous rock was pushed up and exposed by weathering.
Speaking of weathering, precipitation brought by the westerlies likely cause a decent amount of it (although not to the same level as the constant rains of the tropics), so /who/ can probably find a decent amount of clay and mudstone, as well as some kaolinite. Bauxite might be present, but likely not enough to be economically viable (given that they would be more abundant in tropical wetland). Another effect of weathering is that minerals might be carried downstream making the coastal area somewhat richer in minerals (think panning for gold), and groundwater movement might also build up deposits in the coast (lead and zinc is the most common ones, but all metals mentioned above can be carried this way). should /who/ has uranium deposit? the very idea makes me shudder...

3. Fairy wars
The prankster fairies are hard to take seriously, the shining steel that breaks them apart makes them no threat, but to each other they seem to be downright brutal, they will shoot and use their magic to tear each other's courts apart unless the goddess of magic intervenes, whenever spring rolls around their funerary dust will make humans sneeze with force.

4. Panjandrum
Rolling explosives, or a man of great stature, impossible to know what it is, but you will know when you see it.

5. Hero Watson
the legendary usurper of time, who challenged the gods and made a nation for herself, a human hero of grand proportions, the Nameless being watched and spied with great fascination until she could learn more about such a character.

With the exception of the southwestern coast, the majority of /meat/ is covered in tropical forests. In the northern bay and the eastern coast, a combination of onshore wind and warm current means there will be sufficient rainfall for the forest to be evergreen rainforest, while the northwestern coast falls under a rain shadow, resulting in it being a less dense seasonal forest.
Near the southern edge of the tropical monsoon climate, the forest gradually thins out as rainfall reduces due to the cold current becoming a more dominant factor of the local climate, putting the southwestern coast (and majority of /hfz/) in a hot arid climate.
Inland /meat/ is dominated by the subtropical highland climate, a high-elevation variant of the east coast monsoon climate. Cloud forests might develop in the eastern hills. It is also likely home to most of /meat/'s coffee plantations.

Most probably a bad idea because it means the two planets will most likely be tidally locked to each other, so either of the below will likely happen:
>The planet's day is significantly longer than 24 hours, or
>A good chunk of the planet's surface will be in the other planet's shadow
The scenario's interesting from a theory-crafting standpoint, but definitely not something you want if you want the planetary environment to be remotely Earth-like.
The closest you can get two habitable planets around the star is probably some kind of horseshoe orbit configuration, but in that case the two planets are far enough from each other that it won't really matter.

Enclose the entirety of the moon in a mix of glass and metal panels a few tens of meters from the ground. The side facing Vitia doesn't need many panels since less asteroids would hit it (I assume), so glass panels with shutters can be installed, while the farside can be mostly metal panels, with maybe some glass panels, atmospherically isolated from below in case they break, for viewing purposes. There'd also have to be an anchor point in the form of a space elevator to reach an external landing/takeoff pad, I suppose.
My only worry would be blocking the moon view from Vitia. Maybe the shutters can open following the calculated visibility from the planet, to maintain the illusion

I think a transparent dome is very plausible, and might even be preferable from a hard scifi standpoint:
You can make structurally sound dome using a icosahedron structure. The advantage is that if one of the panels is damaged, it is easy to replace, where a solid metal dome would be more expensive and may require welding.
Another is that the moon would be very poor in heavy metals, while quartz-glass could easily be made with regolite. With some plastic, layered plastic/glass composites could be made, aka bulletproof glass.

Yeah, the panel will break into pieces and be pushed out by the flowing air. The pumping system should engineered be able to handle replacing the atmosphere while the dome is leaking out of a few panels, which is plausible. Then, a quick-response team of either human or automated entities should move over to the panel and basically seal it up with a tarp until a proper repair is conducted.
Recovering the atmosphere is not needed, there's a ton of oxygen on the moon in chemical compounds. Plus, a leak out of a few panels for a few minutes would not affect the air supply of a huge dome too much.
>>21743384
Not like constantly. There are lots of micrometeorites, but those would be small enough to simply be absorbed by the hardened glass, bigger meteroids are much rarer. And I mean, making things make sense instead of just handwaving stuff away is what makes all this fun!

Think Greece in terms of mean temperature and season length, but the whole country receives an average annual rainfall from 90 to 140 cm in the southwest and 75cm to 125cm in the north. We're basically larping as Age of Miracles!Byzantium with a slight bit of magitech, so a less depleted Balkan clime with tacked-on-bits from elsewhere is the general idea.

The country's most fertile lands resemble SW Anatolia, prime wine and garden vegetable growing country, bountiful coastal seas. The southern coast has been extensively carved into rice paddies; a mass initiative took place to improve the diets of the peasantry by planting a thick wall of mangrove forest to protect these brackish fields. In this way, fish and shellfish will wander into the paddies and feed farmers; much like how Hawaiian rice and shrimp farmers may occasionally taken in a fully-grown trevally, our farmers will as well. Excess shore catch is sold off.

Snowfall is rare outside the most northwest bits of the country, and we just do not have seasonal glacier lakes.

Are they all secretly robot/golem people dumped from a parallel universe? Could the 'moon' just be "Vitia" from an alternate reality, showing above us through a crack in space-time? It's a valid worldbuilding approach. We do have a framework for how chuubanite works and functions that has been roughly adhered to so far. https://rentry.org/buk5e
And I mean, I think those are fine ideas. We should probably keep oxygen cuz a lot of threads are definitely relying on real chemistry for some of their lore, but if the mooners just don't need air they don't need a dome. They'd only have a dome if they wanted to have a dome.

The central plaza in /nasa/ Station is jokingly named "Universe Center". The Universe Center contains the hub of all monorail lines to other parts of /nasa/. In the middle of the plaza there is a working holographic orbital model of the Sol System. There the model accurately portrays the orbit of all of the planets, moons, and asteroid belt in real time. The model is also used as a calendar and an atomic clock to accurately gage the time from Terra (earth). At the center of the model is a physical depiction of the yellow sun Sol with a statue of Sana sitting on top. This is to accurately model Sana's actual size to the rest of the solar system.

As for facilities around the plaza there is a café with carry out service where Sanalites can grab their meal and coffee. Next to the café is a bakery where bread is always baked fresh. While the café itself is small the plaza has plenty of sit down benches to eat from. Each bench also has a dock where Sanalites can dock their tablet computers to charge and play games with via LAN connection. The Universe Center has a road that leads to the central tower where all the government work is done. Along with the central tower there is /nasa/ station archives that serve as a public library. Universe Center also serves as a public square to host public events and gatherings. If there's a holiday coming up then the Universe Center will update its holograph decorations accordingly. Universe Center is covered by a glass dome that protects the center from climate's rainfall. So there's no fear of a rainy day. That said there are leaks in the dome caused by the crash. So it is still advised to carry an umbrella in Universe Center for now. There are plans to open novelty gift stores when visitors are allowed inside the station.

Before the crash /nasa/ was a huge space colony. 2/3rds of our space was used in factories to make space drones and shuttles. This was before unfolding the station. Its a shame that so much was lost. Many Sanalites are still depressed that they lost their careers when the factory exploded. They're finding new ways to apply their talents. However things will never be the same for any of us.

Technology is different. You would not hand your potential enemies technology to make nuclear bombs for example. We're having /infinity/ make cogs for a gearbox but /nasa/ is going to assemble them. /nasa/ is also making the rest of the stainless steel tools parts for the mixing bowls and blenders for the bakery. /nasa/ still has to assemble the parts into machines. Operating the machines is easy. Not sure how much this crossed the Grand Directive. And there are Sanalites upset at our decision to provide capital to a bakery on foreign land.

Well, Dyson sphere actually has the same problem, just on a much larger scale. A solid structure of that magnitude is very hard to maintain, as all kinds of forces (gravity from other astronomical bodies) will keep tugging the sphere out of position and crash it into the body it is surrounding unless the force is compensated. In the case of the moon sphere, it is slightly more feasible in that there are solid grounds on its surface, so you just have to build numerous pillars to keep the sphere in place.
Of course, it'll be the largest manmade structure by several magnitude, and maintenance will be hell, so even the people living under it will probably ask whether it's worth it just to walk around without a suit on. It would probably be easier for them to have domes on their cities instead, which significantly reduces the amount of material and effort to maintain. In fact, it might be better to just not bother with domes and instead figure out how to replenish the leaking atmosphere from either captured asteroids (which is likely what we'll use IRL if we ever terraform the moon) or generate oxygen from the lunar regolith (ESA has been working on that).
That said, I think the bigger question is: do we even want the moon to be inhabited? I know /moon/ and maybe /pagi/ is themed around it, but the issue's that if we indeed put them on the moon, they would be isolated from the rest of the world, which doesn't seem to be very meaningful as a collaborative project.

>Lumi/Yuri situation
I think the issue's that countries in this world ultimately represent the threads. It's true that you can have some leeway in that (especially if no one else from the thread is present/object to it), but I would say the population at large would have to somewhat resemble the thread's own. As such, while it's fine that the monarch (which I assume is you in this case) declares Lumi and Yuri to be heresy, unless the thread has decided to no longer house their discussion (which doesn't seem to be the case), I don't think you'll really be able to root out or even suppress their followers ICly.

As for the climate, I'll see what I can do, but a mostly Mediterranean climate might not be possible given /cylg/'s location - the closest I can meet that environment would be some kind of tropical savannah climate. Summer will be similarly hot (although also wet), while winter will be 5~10 degrees higher than that of Athens. (rainfall will be similar, or slightly above the range you've suggested, although be noted that it's much higher than Athens, and also has a wet summer rather than winter).
As for snowfall, /cylg/ probably won't have that anywhere due to its low latitude and altitude. Mangrove forest and rice paddies should work well, but you'll need tropical grapes for your wine. That said, they do exist IRL, and people do use them to make wine, although they're not as famous as the ones from the Mediterranean (then again, what we consider "high culture" also comes from there, so there is probably at least some level of bias in what we deem "fine wine").
I hope that works for you. If you have something specific you really want in the end result, we can discuss how to make that happen.

I'm not sure thats cool, dude. You can't just change the general completely because the vtubers you care about are going independent, even if no one else is around. Is the thread itself changing ? If so I think thats fine because the nations are meant to be representatives of the threads we have but if the thread itself isn't changing then you might need to get a new thread. I'm not sure why you're trying to invoke OP, they haven't commented on this decision of yours and even if they had they're not in charge they're just organizing things

>>21754684 (Me)
What I worked out. The majority of land in /cylg/ would be tropical savannah climate (Aw), with a significant tropical monsoon climate (Am) in the south. This should be pretty similar to the annual rainfall mentioned in >>21743658. The significant rainfall in Am should allow ample rice growth, while the longer dry season in Aw should make it fit for growing grapes for wine. Mangrove forests should be viable along the entire western coast.
The savannah will get increasingly dryas you approach the /voms/ border due to the rain shadow cast by the /voms/-/tsun/ highland, until it becomes fully hot desert soon after crossing the border. The island north of mainland will also be pretty dry most of the time, similar to Socotra.
Before civilisation, most of the land will probably be some kind of tropical forest, with the south being mostly evergreen while the north being seasonal. From what you've described, though, most of the forest outside Af is likely already gone due to needs for agriculture, although the rainforest can still provide a decent source of tropical hardwood if there is sufficient effort in replanting around the central region.
