It was more than just that, the writing for all the shorts was atrociously lowest common denominator and obviously written for a JP audience only with the style of humor. The MV was in a very niche style only really known and liked in JP and even then it wasn't anything special. The Mario Party collab was so fucking dull and, bless her soul, A-chan as intermediary really didn't help out with the situation.

All in all, Ina and Gura were forced into an element they were not great at (nevermind the language barrier and social skills) and the content was like a dank wet fart for overseas fans. I feel like whoever came up with it assumed with simply by having Gura and Ina in it that overseas fans would enjoy but there is more to success than just 'showing up'. Cover really failed them.

The hype for JP/EN collab has died down significantly, which is why it didn't do so well from a numbers perspective. Not sure why they took so long to organize this instead of when EN was at their peak. Marine at least took advantage early on and did that collab video with Gura which is still the 2nd most popular video on her channel. It all just felt very forced and very corporate. The Gura/Shion collab was a lot better even though they could barely communicate.

And yet holobirds gets no corporate support.

Marine is a bit of a paradox at times, on one hand she did that short video with Gura as you mentioned and apparently spearheaded Umisea?

On the other hand, she regularly and frequently talks herself out of doing collabs with EN due to her lack of English. Especially with Ina where there is an artistic synergy but she has never gotten the nerve to follow through.

I might be wrong but I get the sense that Marine likes to get things organized in advance and does not like just doing collabs ad-lib, potentially risking dead air or awkwardness.

It's not that because their minecraft collab was actually really good. The biggest issue was they did it and then never did anything again after it. It just sort of happened and had a decent amount of hype since Gura collabs with JP were almost non existent at the time but then nothing else.

I mean I get it corporate mandates and sponsorships but I have seen other companies get really creative with that stuff and it felt like they initially wanted to do something and spent decent money on it but then nothing else. Which leaves a big ol Why did you hype it up so damn much and spend that money for nothing?

it was an interesting idea but the implementation was never going to work. The writing for the shorts was fucking HORRIBLE and they had no idea what to do with ina probably because she's the worst VA of all time and boring as fuck. Gura can't speak japanese so after the awkward interaction at first their collabs kind of fizzle and ina is just boring as hell.

The song also is probably the worst original in all of hololive like what the FUCK were the instrumentals it sounded like two songs being played over top of each other with weird meme breaks in the middle.

Honestly insanely disappointing and shockingly bad for preventable reasons. It'd be fun if gura got better at JP but that's a massive time investment and I can't blame her if she doesn't want to.

It's like they came up with this concept and then just kind of threw some money at it and hoped it would work but it was so poorly done.
