Three things caused it.
1 - Artist. She made and rigged her own model, assets, and everything. Put in a lot of effort to get looking good (and it did)
2 - Voice/personality. She sounds super sweet, and has a lovely voice. Also, she's genuinely pleasant to watch doing art or JC streams.
3 - The ara ara that shook the world.
She got clipped by one of the major clipping channels (might have been Cooksie?) in June 2021. Instantly skyrocketed from ~100 to about 7 streams of 1000+

Good occasion to talk about that, and yeah I know "happy for you or sorry it happened" and all.

That guy is polarizing pretty obviously being spiteful, but he's not completely wrong, her rebrand was honestly not so great and really felt unneccesary. Of course it's her character she can do a rebrand for herself and not for viewers if she wants, but then it's expected to have people talk about it.
And she did spent a lot of times, in multiple streams, being mad at the "haters" while all her chat post positive comments asying to ignore them, they're just hating etc., and guess what such crtiques aren't made in public, so she found those here, and then was pissed of at the anons who expressed something negative about her rebrand.

I like Africat, I really loved her infinite energy during her 18h debut and the mysterious lore she built by alluding to things little by little, she maintain her stream persona very well for countless hours, despite rough conditions between her internet and electricity (and initially her phone overheating). I still watch her even if I especially miss her previous face which felt so much more expressive, overall a self-made model is such a strong aspect for a vtuber what a waste... at least her personality didn't worsen much, she was very solid for her time and is stll going pretty well.


But it's true yeah all those changes were extremely confusing, not to mention privaing all her past videos too, and if fans can't even mention that fact here (the furthest from her), the place where vtubers have no business looking if they're sensible, then what the fuck?
As a creator exposing yourself to the general public means people will have opinions about what you do, and some of those opinions won't please you yes, it doesn't mean they're wrong (or right), but it's how it is.
And yeah I know about her name ""doxx"" but it's not that convenient it doesn't explain most of the changes.

Her recent drawing streams were very fun and my most recent fav was the padoru rigging streams if that have any importance.

I don't expect anyone to ever believe it here, but the woman I'm dating at the moment - and marrying this year - was met like this, trough vtubing.

I was a viewer, more precisely an artist which perhaps helped on the power unbalance issue.
We had a few exchanges here and there, and at some point one exchange just didn't stop for hours, and from this point on we couldn't stop chatting all the time every day, as she acted more like herself, I realised we really had similar values even on specific topics and the same type of humour. After months playful flirting becoming frequent, we both admitted it and it's been the best year of my life since then. I never thought you could feel such a deep and confident trust in someone like that. I never had for goal to date or whatnot, I just like chatting with people I find compatibles, and it just happened, unplanned.

Of course it's probably not a common thing, sometimes I think I'm daydreaming but no, reality is here and is great.

Also it's very common to meet friends/love in a hobby, but for vtubing if you strictly watch you're not really in the same hobby as the vtube. If you're more involved and creative it's different.
An issue a bit specific to vtubing in tha tregard is that as a "simple" viewer you do NOT know the person who is streaming even if you watch them for months. They present either an act or a side of them that is the more pleasing/attractive, it's normal, and being exposed to many people like this will result in people you don't know thinking they know you and love "you" (but not actually)

But while chat agreed as usual, some people mentioned the case where people make such comments but not directed at the vtuber, simply talk about their hobby with other people, outside of the vtuber personal's space, like you could do for any other entertainment. Well obviously thought of 4chan but said "vtubing forums" instead, however she actually it saying "but I don't think I'm discussed anywhere else on Internet? reddit maybe? I don't remember seeing such talks there... only the places I know discuss about me" I forgot the exact phrasing but honestly even though I knew she was aware of the board for other reasons it really felt like confirmation.

It's really not a tragedy, but the way some people get so defensive here make it worse every time.
