Did a simple-ish climate zoning for /kfp/.
Climate and seasons:
>/kfp/ can be roughly divided between 2~3 major climate zones.
>Coastal area south of the mountain, as well as the southernmost part of the northwest valley, is mostly subtropical/temperate monsoon, with the southern slope of the mountain getting steadily colder as altitude increases. Snow will be uncommon outside the highland bordering the alpine tundra.
> In the coastal area (Cwa), summer will be hot and wet, and winter cold and dry. As altitude increases (Cwb~Cwc), the temperature difference between seasons will reduce, becoming an "eternal spring" climate where seasonal difference is primarily rainfall.
>Inland area north of the mountain is mostly continental monsoon. It has the classic four-season climate, with significant rainfall during the summer months. The higher area north of the mountain is consistently dry all year due to the small rain shadow effect of the mountain, and its altitude also renders it colder.
>Around the summit of the mountain (altitude above 2500~3000m), the weather becomes consistently cold and most trees can no longer develop. Patches of cold-resistant and/or clonal trees might persist, but the landscape will be mostly hardy grass and moss.

Natural biome:
>Before civilisation, the majority of /kfp/ lowland temperate broadleaf forests. The southern coast might be considered temperate rainforests, while the northern area gradually transforms into mixed broadleaf and coniferous forest as temperature decreases. In continental climates, land at higher elevations and far from sources of water (primarily rivers) will be temperate grassland more suitable for animal husbandry.
>Common hardwood in /kfp/ forest includes ash, beech, chestnut, elm, hickory, oak; common softwood includes cedar, fir, pine, and spruce.
>Productive climate and generally favourable soil quality (lime and fertiliser might be needed) mean the majority of land in /kfp/ will be suitable for intensive agriculture. Wheat, maize and millet are generally suitable for all lowland areas, while the south is also suitable for rice growth, and the north is suitable for more cold-resistant foodstuff like barley and oat.
>Examples of common non-food crops in /kfp/ include beet, groundnut, basedbean, tea (in the southern highland), peaches, pear, apple, cotton (in the south), flax, and tobacco.

Miscellaneous thoughts:
>In general, the environment is most similar to a somewhat warmer southern Central Europe (northern Italy, Austria, and Southern Germany), or a more hilly Midwestern United States. Subtropical highland does not exist in Central Europe or the Great Plains, but is present in the southern Himalayas or southwestern China.
>The map does not show any ice caps in /kfp/, although you might get some icy summits if the main mountains above ~4000m.
>/kfp/ have two main areas that would be able to support large-scale agriculture and thus a large population and government (circled in purple in the previous post), separated by mountains and different general climates. Do they have different cultures before becoming part of the same country? Do they prefer to have their own government?
>The eastern river splits into two rivers, which natural rivers don't really do. I suggest that it is artificial instead, maybe with a short canal connecting the two rivers (circled in red in the previous post). Perhaps it was originally used to transport agricultural products from the east westward?
>Subtropical highlands will experience intense rainfall during the wet season. Since most of the rivers originating at the south slope of the main mountain drain into the same river south of the capital, the riverbanks will be seasonally flooded, especially near the estuary where the terrain no longer constricts water. A side effect of this is that the riparian wetland will become very fertile farmland once the wetland is drained and protected by dykes. Indeed, this might be one of the practical reasons why the capital is built immediately north of it - to control the downstream breadbasket while not as subjected to the flooding.
>I tried my best to match the general environment of Austria while staying within the realm of plausibility. It ends up being a warmer version of High German area plus the Venetian Plain, with a bit of Nepal thrown in. Hope you like tea and risotto!

Despite the name, the weather isn't actually that similar to the Mediterranean - as the Koppen code indicates, it's more like a mix between Mediterranean rainfall pattern (dry-ish summer, wet winter) and Oceanic temperature, so it's more like Seattle and Portland than Rome and Athens if that helps.

>>21434344
Probably more similar to English (although it's also present in western Norway and southern Sweden) since it's warmed by a warm current, hence you'll see more broadleaf trees in the south (although it starts to mix together the further north and inland you go).

Yeah, I do try to keep things consistent with lore unless they're really incompatible. It also doesn't help my case that Koppen classification has names that don't always correlate to everyday usage (hence you get Mediterranean Vancouver and subtropical New York City), and that biome doesn't also align with climate zones in nature (although deforesting lowland /who/ without replanting will turn its forest into shrubland or - more likely - farmland, olive groves, and vineyards).

Proposed addition to /who/'s general lore:
Foodstuffs:
Greenhouses near urban centres cultivate more crops that don't grow as well in the republic's climate such as tomatoes. Although some are used to grow exotic plants and fruits, they are limited in number and only serve the demand of wealthier citizens.

Due to a relative shortage of wheat(most wheat farms are military-owned), urban bakers and rural farmers use boiled potatoes or potato flour to stretch out the wheat flour. Although potato bread doesn't last as long as wheat bread, due to its moist and fluffy texture it's one of the national food of the Republic, a staple besides the usual beef and potatoes. Bakers working in the joint /nasa/-/who/ industrial bakery also make potato rolls for the republic's burger chains. The airy buns are perfect for hamburgers due to their pillowy texture, sweet flavour and crispy crusts when toasted.

Host to a growing working class, both in number and income, cities in the republic have developed a restaurant culture. Bistros serve more well-off workers(often white-collar) looking for meals that are closer to home-cooked and high-end establishments serve the wealthy and middle-class citizens. Though most still workers fill their stomachs in canteens of their respective factories.

Economics, resources, goods production, and industry:
Despite failures to introduce cash crops on a large scale, vineyards and wine production are an important component of the republic's export. Vineyards are distributed in the lowlands of the west and some areas in the east. Most wines produced in the west are dry red wines, whereas the east mostly produces whites.
Betraying the image of rugged, crude products made by the republic, wines produced by some regions are prized in many countries. Of particular note are the sparkling white wine of the eastern, mountainous province and dry red wine of the coastal provinces.
While the working class prefer the stronger distilled potato spirits and cold beers, wines are frequently drunk by the growing urban middle class and used extensively in cooking. Pickling meat and vegetables, adding bite to stews, or even cleaning, vinegar made from wine has many uses.

note: Since /Who/ is basically France in terms of climate and the rough geographical location vis-à-vis
irl earth I want to incorporate something about wine production in there.
Also, the restaurant part can be axed as there isn't any lore on the economic make-up of the population and it isn't really that important.

Representative here:
>foodstuffs
Looks nice, makes sense, It's getting integrated
>vineyards
I'll reduce that, the Republic itself hasn't had the time or material conditions up until that point to mantain expensive cultivations as vineyards would be, meaning it would be a very expensive product for most of the population and only reserved for the rich and luxury exports, maybe in the future of the Republic vineyards will become more common and easily available for most due to growing demand, but as of now it's limited.

True redwood trees require a drier summer, so they might be rare in /uuu/ outside the southern border. It's still suitable for other giant trees like Douglas fir (featured on Cascadia's flag) and western hemlock. With time, (maybe) chuubanite, and /uuu/ not overlogging them like what happened to IRL, they can well grow to be larger than sequoia.

>>21438384
To be fair, being rare and expensive (perhaps unreasonably so, but I digress) is basically what wines are known for. The fact that grapes will likely be competing with wheat production when it comes to land use also probably means its development will be limited by the state to ensure a steady supply of food to the military although someone influential enough in the system might decide they want some fine wine too.
Other than that, the lack of cash crop and plants seem to check out, although part of me doubts the relative lack of wheat is entirely natural...
The closest there is to cash crop that can reasonably be grown in /who/ would be things like flax and apple (and related fruits like pears). Reasonably useful (flax can be used to make vegetable oil and libre, while fruits gives /who/ diet to those who can afford it a bit more variety), but not exactly conventional cash crops that you can make a lot of money exporting.

All reasonable points, originally, I wrote about the relative lack of wheat being in comparison to potato production which overshadows every other crop, flax would probably be used to help fuel the cloth industry and apple trees would surely be a common sight across the land and maybe even the cities, large scale farming of apples would be quite a bit more limited thought.

>> No.21441192

>>21440517
Well, potato is pretty versatile, so I won't be surprised that more land (especially in the inland region) is devoted to potatoes compared with wheat as well. It's just that the discussion above makes me wonder if the fact that the military prefers a stable supply of wheat to themselves over making the most money off growing crops results in an artificial side of the relative rarity.
As for apple trees, one neat thing about apples is that apple trees that grow from seeds can be very different from the parent trees in terms of fruit quality, which is why apples we eat tend to come from plant cutting and grafting. The "wilder" apples coming from trees outside nurseries are often considered of inferior quality (unless you happen to stumble upon a good, wild apple tree, in which case you become a folk hero and/or have a line of computers named after your fruit), which is why they're more commonly used as animal feed or source of apple juice/cider.

The crop map is from the 1920s but I don't see why apples & pears would be the only fruit crop. While apples would certainly be the major fruit corp produced(for lore reasons), the climate of the republic should be able to support more kinds of fruits. referring to the lefthand-side map, the western lowlands should have an oceanic climate(light green), the east should be oceanic with mountain influence(light blue) and some green(oceanic w/ continental influence) in between.

>> No.21443040

>>21441670
It's the closest there is to a cash crop in /who/ since apple is versatile, but the land can theoretically grow more kinds of stuff (although the military-oriented production model in the lowland probably means only a few is produced at scale). As for the fruits in the pic:
>Pears are mentioned as being related to apple, but I think they have fewer use.
>Orange and related fruits like lemon require a hotter weather - you can see the maximum extent of citrus marked on the right have it be near the southern coast of France.
>Fair point about the prunus (including cherry, peaches, and apricot), though. Maybe they aren't considered as useful as apples so they don't get grown much?

Demeter was built as part of a joint agreement with Risu and to ferry supplies and equipment through Risu via Hecate's Path to Ceres from ∞, and vice versa. Due to its closer proximity to the ∞ mainland, Demeter doesn't need to be as self sufficient as Ceres, however it can sustain itself if the supply chain is disrupted. Demeter is mainly used as a way point for moving goods received from Ceres to ∞ and for traders to resupply if they are traveling along the eastern coast of the Holo continent.
Demeter was built using supplies that were transported from ∞, and some materials from Risu itself under the agreement that Risu can also use the port town for their own business.
Demeter's garrison is comprised of ships from ∞ (Both steam and sailing ships) and battalion of ∞ soldiers to protect the port town from pirates, schizos or belligerent nations. Due to its relatively close proximity to Risu town of Kenkerto, the Demeter garrison can also be deployed to defend Kenkerto or any Risu allies in the area.
There was a plan to try and move an ironclad to Demter to further shore up defense of its ports. However this was scrapped after the ironcald started to take on water while on open ocean and nearly sank, forcing it to return to ∞.

>Hecate's Path
The main road connecting the coasts of Risu. It was constructed to more easily ferry supplies and equipment to Ceres and move any goods traded through Ceres to Demeter and then ∞.
The area where Hecate's Path was built was all scouted in advance with Risu's approval, specifically for any region that required trees to be cut because of how they are considered sacred in Risu.
Due to its length, there are multiple stations along Hecate's Path (Not marked) to act as rest/repair stops.
Hecate's Path was built with both ∞ and /meat/ manpower and construction starting at each coast, moving inward into the country until they met to create a single path through the country.
The path itself is usually only dirt, however in areas where the ground is boggy, wood or stone is integrated into the road to keep convoys from getting stuck.

>The Port City of Ceres.
The Port City of Ceres is located on the southern portion of Risu and is the main trading hub for ∞ on the Central Ocean [name pending] and the main base of operations for ∞'s Central Fleet. It was established as part of a joint agreement with Risu along with Demeter and Hecate's path.
Ceres consists of the port city, for trading, a garrison to protect the city from pirates, schizos or belligerent nations and shipyards to maintain and build new ship.
Ceres is much larger than it's sister port Demeter because it's designed to be a trading hub on the Central Ocean among Hololive and Independent countries within the area. It's also a port to help facilitate commerce among the winder world for Risu. As a result, Ceres has a thriving city of merchants and dock/ship workers, along with various professions required to maintain the city.
Ceres is protected by the ∞ Central Fleet and a division of ∞ soldiers, with the city asking as the GHQ for ∞'s operations on the Hololive Continent. Like how Demeter defends Kenkerto, Ceres's forces can deploy to defend Sabatangan.
Any goods destined to ∞ from trading in the area, would go through Ceres, then Hecate's Path, onto Demeter, and finally to ∞ itself.
The City was built using supplies brought in from the Central Fleet and Risu, where again as part of the alliance, Risu is given access to use the port city for their own business.

>The Central Fleet
A combination of trading and military ships that operate in the Central Ocean [name pending]
The supplies to construct Ceres were originally transported from ∞ through the Nijisanji and Nasfaqg passage using the ships that were to make up the Central Fleet.
Due to Risu not having having it's own reliable source of coal, only two steamships are among this fleet with one acting as the flagship for the ships charged with defending the Risu coastline, local sea trade routes and Ceres. And the other being tasked with taking any high priority trades in the Central Ocean [name pending]. Any coal they require for their engines must be transported from ∞ and through Hecate's Path, as a result, the steamships mainly rely on their traditional sailing rigs for much of their movement.
The rest of the fleet are tradition sailing ships ranging in size, with Frigates being the most common.
It was originally planned for Ceres's shipyards to be able to have the ability to construct ironclads to bolster the Central Fleet, however this plan was scrapped because there wasn't a reliable source of metal and the fear that if the shipyards were captured, the ironclads would be used against ∞ allies on the hololive mainland.

Pic related is an example of an ∞ steamship.

>Hecate's Path
Given the environment in /risu/, I would say that most of the eastern half of the road will be on land that is either always wet (swamp forest) or periodically wet (subtropical wet season), so dirt road won't be a very permanent solution. I think it might be a good idea to take a page from Maya and have the majority of the road (replacing the initial dirt path for exploring and marking) be similar to sacbe, basically having the road be elevated and covered in lime plaster (perhaps reinforced by hardwood lath if available) to reduce damage from the environment. If done correctly, the flat and reasonably hard surface should be good for transportation too.
The issue is relatively minor in the west, so dirt road is more practical, although if there's enough manpower and will, either having it rammed or covered with plaster would still improve the road condition for transport. They can also be useful in redirecting and separating water if /risu/ want to try the whole farming thing in the future.

That's up to Risu approve.

The southern area is better suited since any realistic western road would come dangerously close to sacred land for Risu and the eastern area will deal with less powerful monsoons.

Biome are tricky, they mix up really smooth gradient like desert to rainforest with really sharp boundaries like those found in mountains. I think I've finally settled on a workflow that works for what we're doing though, I just need to put together material that look good for each biome now, hopefully I can reuse one with hue shifts a bunch of times.
If you're around, how is the map going /meat/anon? I keep finding neat details, like the island you added in the /luna/ waters.

It has been a while since we get new prompts, so let's have one now:

>Rite of Passage
Do your people have any rites of passage - ceremonies or rituals that mark someone's change from one group to another (whether it be age, social standing or occupation)? Are the rites formalised and have to be done properly for the transition to be acknowledged, or are they more informal and casual, like birthday parties to simply mark the occasion? Do the rites differ between gender, age, or social class? What does becoming a "proper" member of your culture's society mean?

Last thread I asked if the vote undoing /who/'s partial annexation of /uuu/ retconned it into never occurring. While the two answers I received conflicted, I'm confident in not calling it to a thread-wide vote since one of the two was in all likelihood from the one who negotiated for the now-cancelled deal in the first place. Since his answer was to consider the vote a retcon, I will accept his word on the matter and treat the matter as such.

That being said, I do have another question, one that doesn't just have to do with my own thread and an inactive one, but one that concerns inter-thread etiquette:
>Are there/Should there be any limits on who can approach a split not active in the project and start a world-building discussion in it? If so, who is and isn't allowed to do so?
You see, if /who/ never gained the southern half of /uuu/, there's no justification for me going through with my plan to write a loredump about Saplings trying to adapt to Hooman life.
With this in mind, I was thinking of making a post in /uuu/ where I drop off some of the world-building notes and assumptions about /uuu/ and its inhabitants in a "use it if you want" manner, but I wasn't sure if it was okay for a non-rep to approach an inactive split with /vtwbg/ matters, so I wanted to run the matter by you guys first.

>> No.21462597

>>21461532
Personally, I feel that if /uuu/ is still uninterested in the project (judging from how we don't have anyone who claim to be from that thread here), I don't think dropping the notes on their thread would be a good idea, as they might either not care or don't like people from a thread they consider not to their interest posting stuff there. It might be better to post the notes here instead.
As for limits, it's hard to tell, since we allow people to write lore/greentext for inactive threads (or rather, we have no way to tell if they're truly from those threads or not). I guess currently we can only say "try not to do that solely for your own thread's advantage" and judge it on a case-by-case basis.

Addition to /who/ army structure:
##Rations of the army
Around 55% of wheat fields, 35% of grazing fields and 20% of potato farms in the Republic are owned by the military. These centralised, state owned farms are the main source of the army's provisions. Centralisation(at least in theory) yields more food, improves smoothness of logistics and quality controll, even if it has some shortfalls compared to private options, the military still perfers the security and stability over the potential effeicency of private market.
To combat digestion problems related to the monotonous diet of the military, fruit preserves, espically prune plums are supplied to units. Other than the usual prunes there's also pears cooked in wine, candied cherries and wild berry compote.

When a Legion marches, the provisions typically include salted beef, mutton or pork, canned foods(from potatoes & meat, smoked fish to string beans), fruit perserves, bullion cubes, suet/salted pork fat , sacks of wheat flour/potatoes, boxes of hardtacks, sugar, coffee, vodka and other nessities such as candles and soap. Fresh produce(including milk!) are usually provided twice ot thrice a week but that's under ideal circumtances and thus aren't expected to be maintained in wartime. The Republic's provision does not rely on fresh produce to keep its soldiers healthy due to its large canning industry and the logitical ability to distribut them. The various canned food are designed to provide at least the baseline of nutritional needs for months.
When regiments are garrisoned, their weekly provisons also include eggs, various smoked meats and more kinds of fresh produce bought from local farmers.

When encamped, brick ovens are constructed to bake bread for the men. Field kitchens cook big pots of stews or even roasts if fresh meat or cattle is avalible. Energy dense food such as hardtack and canned meat & potatoes are reserved for marches.
Light infantry or other reconnaissance troops perfer bringing canned meat & potatoes, bread, salted pork fat and fruit perserves as they don't require any cooking and thus the need to light fires. Perfect for picket duty. They typically bring 3-4 days worth of rations while marching ahead of the supply trains.
Line infantry usually bring hardtacks, canned food, bread, salted meat and animal fats while on the move. As they march relatively close to the supplies, they would typically only bring 1-2 days worth of food on their person.

Even though the Republic's canned rations are incrediblely varied(there are 23 different varieties excluding perserved fruits), the amount one can bring is limited. Bringing more than 4 cans starts to become cumbersome when combined with all the other equipment one has to carry. As such, soldiers came to learn different recipies to make the less agreeable provisions like hardtacks more edible.

**The Tartarus stew:**
Fatty meat/fat is rendered in a pan. Then Hardtacks are pounded into chunks and added into the rendered fat(if fatty meat is used, it is best to be taken out and added back in later, though many soldiers skip this step). After around 15 minutes, the hardtack became crispy and flavourful. If perfered water and chopped canned vegetables are added in.

**Hardtack pudding:**
Hardtacks are pounded finely and then mixed with water or milk if avalible. While the hardtack is left to sit, fruit perserves are chopped and mixed with sugar and spices if one's lucky enough to have a relative mail it to them. The hardtack mixture is rolled into a crust and used to wrap the fillings. The pudding is then steamed in a pot for up to 2 hours.

**Lobscouse:**
Fatty meat or animal fat is rendered in a pot. Canned vegetables are chopped and if situation allowed, fresh, foraged wild vegtables are used as well.
Meat(either canned or salted) is added and left to brown and hardtacks are pounded into small chucks. The vegetable are then added with bouillon and water. The hardtack chucks are added with some reserved to add crucnch if one perfers. After around 20 minutes the stew is seaoned to taste and ready to serve.

**Army gruel:**
Hardtacks are pounded into small chunks. The pounded hardtacks are added either in a pot of boiling water or left to soakover in a bowl night. If added into pot, around 30 minutes with ocassional stirring is needed. Fruit perserves are chopped and added into the pot/bowl. If avalible, milk is also added when finishing or on top of the bowl. The gruel is then seasoned to taste with sugar or spices.

I figured that if I or someone else left a few crumbs directly in the split one of them might feel more up to participating.

That being said, I get the impression that the Sapling who made that post was the one who confirmed the initial deal on /uuu/'s end in this split when it happened, meaning the whole "scared away by the autism" moment happened over a month ago. With this in mind I can understand skepticism of at the very least that specific poster's likelihood of contributing.

I'd love to put a trial balloon out there to /uuu/, but I'm worried about setting a precedent for people /here/ to harass inactive splits attempting to get them to participate. If a formal rep gives the go-ahead, I'll take that as having legitimate authority to at least make an "I'm from /vtwbg/" trial post.

For those who don't understand/want IRL examples:
>Dwa/Dwb
pretty rare on earth, but is found most prominently in Manchuria, Korea and North China. A major city with this climate would be Beijing.
>Dfb
fairly common IRL, can be found in most of East and Central Europe, Especially Poland and the Baltics, as well as in the American Midwest. A major city with this climate would be Prague.
>Dfc
another pretty common one. Finland, Siberia, Alaska, they all have it. its basically the "fucking cold" climate. There aren't really any "major" cities for obvious reasons, but for an example Yellow Knife is in this climate zone.
>ET
Freezing glacial tundra. Great for skiing, not so good for actually living. There are no cities with this climate type.
>Cwb
Warm, dry, highlands, incredibly common, found basically anywhere warm and mountainous, from India to Mexico to Ethiopia. Mexico City and Addis Ababa are both cities with this climate.
>Cwc
Very rare, it only really exists in very high altitude areas near Cwb climates, as basically a colder, drier, varient of it. El Alto is a city with this climate.
>Cwa
another very common one! a lot of south Southern China and the Northern Indian subcontinent has this climate. Major cities in this zone include Hong Kong and Islamabad

Finally here's an explanation of how the Köppen classification actually works:
>First letter defines what type of climate it is
A = Tropical (very hot all year around)
B = Dry (very dry all year around)
C = Temperate (no months below -3 degrees celsius)
D = Continental
E = Polar (very cold all year around)
>Second letter designates how much rain it receives and at what time of year.
f = no dry season: wet/humid all year around
w = wet summer, dry winter.
s = wet winter, dry summer
m = monsoon
W = desert: virtually no rain all year around
F = Steppe: dry, but not dry enough to be a desert
>Third letter describes how hot is it
a = hot
b = temperate
c = cold
h = hot (used exclusively for deserts and stepped)
k = cold (used exclusively for deserts and stepped)

E type kind of ignore these rules and runs on its own system, with T being Tundra and F being ice caps.

hmu you if you need anymore climates explained. I could also potentially do the climate for your country if you like but I'm a little out of practice. the other climate and the other anons probably have better tools than what I'm using (ms paint)

A note on the witches of /risu/ and gemtree production

Risuners have witches deep in their forests. They are very few in number and none of them can be found in the major settlements. They prefer to be in isolated small villages to keep their magic kept secret from outsiders. Witches are usually the de facto rulers of their respected settlements.
These witches use the power of gemstones to make all sorts of magical effects depending on the gem used. Their main method of acquiring gems is either mining or using gemtrees. To make a gemtree, one must infuse a magical acorn with a gem to create a gemcorn. The gemcorn will always grow what gem is used when infused. (Emerald gemcorn will produce emerald gemtree)
These gemcorns are then placed into the ground like any other seed and then grow like any other tree. Note that even with /risu/ plant acceleration magic, this tree takes a considerable amount of time to grow, more than a regular tree.
Gemtree farms are found deep within the caves of molerisuners and these are usually handpicked by the witch to be trusted with their care. So far the following gems have been seen used by witches and their settlements but its possible there are more
Pic rel from terraria, where i got the idea from

Carnelian- Used as a far more powerful version of coal. A single one can light up an entire settlement in a dark red color. These are placed in furnaces and last for about 3 months before expiring. Heat is enough to cook, smelt metal, and can be adjusted.

Emerald- Used for healing and plant acceleration. These are usually kept by nut growers to further accelerate the process of making nuts. Disease and injuries were healed much quickly near its presence when activated. 20 uses before expiring.

Topaz- Lights of all colors. Carnelian does this as well but topaz is much brighter. Neither have been seen used both at once as its considered a waste. Can produce different colors and is used for parties.

Turquoise- Gliding. Although risuners are not flying squirrels they have used this power to be able to glide. Turquoise must be directly infused with a risuner to allow them this power so it is only used on the witch themself or close friends. One time use. Duration currently unknown.

Grape agate- Weaponry. This is by far the most commonly used gem in /risu/ and so many gemtrees of it have been produced that it can be used fairly commonly despite its low expiration. These are used as weapons and are placed at the end of a staff like weapon. These "grape blasters" fire a small purple fireball like projectile at very fast speed. Only 10 shots can be fired before it has to be reloaded with another bead of grape agate. Top priority is placed on making sure nobody, not even outside risuners get their hands on these weapons.

Finally, another anon who's into climate stuff!
But yeah, in hindsight I might've glossed over some of the stuff there. Thanks for the supplement!
steppe (more pedantically semi-arid) should be S tho Also should note that f means no dry season, which can mean both it's always wet, or it's always dry (most noticeable in Dfc/Dfd where there's barely any precipitation).
For the third letter, there's also d, although it's pretty rare since it basically means "fucking cold", so it's only used in continental climate that has just enough warmth to not be considered polar.

If the geology anon(s) is around, I've been researching the topic of Sakuran's volcanoes and hot springs. I've only placed these generally by feel after reading through a number of articles, so if anyone is more well-versed on these matters I'd appreciate your input.

The whole volcanically active area is, from what I've calculated, ~500-600km (scale pending). From that: the dark orange area, measuring 75kmx50km at its longestxwidest, is the main volcanically active area and the centre of the shield volcano Mt. Achuachu; the moderately orange area is semi-active, where lave does flow underneath, giving rise to cinder cones (marked in small red circles), but no shield-related fissures occur; and the light orange/yellow area that is comprised of old lava flows when the volcano was more active which are now fully covered in soil.
Of the 5 noted cinder cones, the two westernmost went extinct before 35p even arrived in this land, the centre one went extinct a couple of centuries ago and the two easternmost ones are currently active, having each exploded twice in the last century.

Regarding geology: Due to the main volcano being a shield type, silica concentration in the rocks of the area is low. Generally, the volcano would release volcanic rocks of classifications, following the TAS diagram, mostly B, but also O1, S1, S2 (Mugearite), Pc, U1 (Basanite) and F (Nepheline, Nosean etc) .
Exceptions to this appear in the area where the 5 cinder cones have risen (roughly the blue circle area), where lava was enriched with slightly higher amounts of silica, forming volcanic rocks of classiciations O2, S3, U2 and F (Analcime, Lazurite etc).

The large circled areas mark the general locations of hot springs, while the long purple lines the underground water systems that flow through the land.
To the north, within the green circle, bicarbonate hot springs can be found. Their water has a green-blue colour due to the species of bacteria residing in them, while cooler ones develop thin green films over them and eventually vegetation.
To the west, the orange contains an area of mostly iron-rich hot springs, with some acid sulfate ones spread in-between. These are the most numerous hot springs in the country. Iron-rich hot springs are easy to differentiate, as they all have colouration varying from red to dark red to brown, due to the iron oxide produced by the bacteria that make their home there. Most of these Iron-rich hotsprings are harmful to both humans and plants, specifically tubes and roots, and especially potatoes, causing scab disease and soft rot disease. However, rare iron-rich hot springs exist (ooc: this can even be just a single one), whose water has medicinal properties, specifically affecting the intestines and the gut, aiding with constipation and other infections. Acid sulfate springs, while also blue-green like bicarbonate ones, are often surrounded by fungi, and many travel to areas around these springs to collect them.
Finally to the south, are the main (ie biggest) springs in Sakuran, surrounded by the blue circle. Affected by the same lava flows that gave rise to the cinder cones, these are alkali chloride ones. They have pure blue colours, are mineral rich and have general healing properties. The two biggest hot springs rise from the caldera of the now extinct westernmost cinder cones, after underground water found its way through the empty, but hot, lava flow chambers. The water flow from these two source is great enough to have created a small river riding down the slope of Mt. Achuachu, with life thriving around it. It's no wonder the capital of Shikemura (not on map) was built near this area.

they are individually overpowered, but they are trusted to stay put in an uninhabitable place where only overpowered people can survive, and there aren't many of them. isn't it a bit overpowered to have such a place to begin with? i won't bother you too much on this, but it sounds like people could justify having an overpowered unit if you guys can have it. i'm trying to keep world-balance in mind. maybe you can say the priests can't survive outside of those regions, otherwise they collapse on their own weight. that way you can keep your powerful priests, but you wont need to trust them to not steamroll everyone else. we both get what we want that way. what do you say?

I don't think they're really all that overpowered. They're just heavy and powerful, and there's a couple hundred of them. Like, any nation could train up 6'6" feet tall musclebound commandos, that would be effectively the same thing without the limitations put on the priestesses. And as I mentioned, there's less than a thousand of them, at our current tech level they'd be inconsequential even if we did want to use them. You can't steamroll nations numbering in the millions with a thousand strong dudes when firearms are in the cards.

"If you want to know why... A millennia ago, before the realm of Viti was exiled from Jaya-Pi, the Robosans were the most powerful beings. Their clan is at the crossroads of the Big Five Titans and the young Holy Life pantheon. As the power of the primordial goddess Ai and Kaguya dwindled, before the Chief Goddess Sora reign, the followers of Roboco were artificers of mass destruction. I recall early threads discussing Mumei using the tower of babel in an attempt by humanity to kill/overthrow god. Feels a bit cheap taking something that someone else has made in Minecraft (Haachama).
Perhaps instead a legion of Nightmares would be more fitting, a sort of genetic experiment/hoomans playing at god.
Had an idea of suggesting something like this for lore, like there being remnants from "The Early War" of a super soldier experiment gone wrong now dwelling in caves around in less developed areas of /who/. /nasa/ Principal's log:

I've been thinking about number crunching the effects of unfolding the station. The station when folded cuts about 75% of space. Which means for greenhouses and food processing our capacity has increased accordingly. On one hand the greenhouses are evergreen. On the other hand to save power greenhouses will be exposed to sunlight directly. We have both hydroponic and dirt gardens. Though now we're grounded production will favor dirt farming over hydroponic.

Now there is a downside to unfolding the station. We're going to need to expend more power to keep all the buildings lit. This does mean we will have power outages from time to time. /nasa/ will be installing more solar panels for daytime. And we will have power rationing for a while. But once we get more of the station's reactors operational then power won't be a problem inside /nasa/ station. However power outside of the station will need external reactors and other power sources. We can make a coal or diesel power plant if we have to but we rather make nuclear first. A nuclear power plant outside the station will supply power to the entire region.

There is the topic of plumbing, sewage, and water treatment. If we make sewers and pipes then they need to be insulated from the tundra's winter. Also digging sewers is a huge undertaking that we won't have the people nor machines for. So water treatment is stuck inside the station for now. This does bring up a problem with how to transport sewage from outside the station to the station.

In fact transportation is a massive problem with /nasa/ in general. We have no paved roads. Which means we can't use trucks outside the station as they're on electromagnetic rails. And to build vehicles /nasa/ needs factories. The infrastructure problem comes full circle again. So /nasa/ is going to have to look for primitive means of transportation. Which means /nasa/ will have to spend years breeding oxen and horses to haul supplies from the station to outside. Implying we can find oxen and horses that can survive the tundra. Maybe if we're lucky we can tame an alien beast that matches our needs. If such a creature can exist.

This is my general assessment of /nasa/'s current problems. Currently /nasa/'s biggest obstacle is the lack of transportation. Sadly we do not have any vehicles that can survive hauling heavy supplies over the wild terrain. Nor do we have the materials and funds to build the roads for such vehicles at this time. Perhaps this is a problem where the only solution is time. There isn't much advice nor direction I can give to Sanalites at this time other than keep working their current tasks. If other Sanalites have any solutions to these problems then I'm all ears. That said I do feel like I am failing the Sanalites for not having all the solutions to our problems. I am but one man who has faith in the station as Sana does that we'll work out our problems eventually. It may take a decade or two. The best I can do is keep working on foreign relationships to import the materials and goods we need ourselves. Sanalites are looking forward to the new foods and goods we traded are surplus of wheat, rations, and liquor for. I cannot wait to try /rose/'s bath salts for myself.

There's supposed to be a pretty big tourist resort close to the southern hot springs, and a few others spread around the country, so I'd say pretty big, especially from neighbouring countries to the east, west and south, and countries that can reach us by sea. Nations to the north would likely go to /rrat/'s hot springs, as they're probably closer. Still, a significant amount of income would be made off of them.

I see the principal as a kind of man who logically weighs all of his options first before making a decision. I wasn't a fan of the emotional speech in the snippit. I suggest having Alex explain his logic on how he came to the conclusion of declaring a new homeworld, thus overruling the directive on species mixing. Alex is absolute on not sharing space age tech with other nations. Though he understands he'll have to give those nations credit on their discoveries /nasa/ uses. Also understand nations will keep technology of vitubium to themselves and we must respect that.

In other news I expect technology espoinage to be a thing in this world. Spies are everywhere trying to steal secrets of vitubium technology either for their contracts or for themselves. Thoughts?

Now that i slept a bit more on the flow of the meeting(this is like the 4th rewrite in my head by this point(kill me)) the emotional speech, while not a lie, would serve as a hammer to crush the last defenses Adam put up (similar to Alex, he deeply cares about people under him, as many see him as a strict, but caring grandpa, but sees the Grand directive with much more revenance due to living with it about twice as long as Alex). His previous arguments would be a lot more logical, but after seeing he isn't making much progress, would shift to tug on Adam's emotional strings. Thoughts?

You have to ask: the twins born on this planet, are they natives now? They will live on this world without a space suit. And one day our children will relate to other natives born here more than us because they will have an attachment to this world that we ourselves do not. Overturning the Grand Directive on species mixing is not a matter of if but when. The next generation? The generation after?

>> No.21494975

>>21494529
Exactly. This would be brought up fairly early on, before the birth of the twins was even known to the group. Most would prefer to just ignore that problem until they couldn't anymore, while Alex would be pushing for it to be solved now before any problems arise. If put into question a few generations in, it could lead to a schizm forming between the 2 factions, the mixed children and purists, which could lead to open conflict. Solving it on gen 0 gives all of us time to adjust, with future generations being free of it.

Suggestion that I've been thinking for a while:
Regarding the way reps communicating in the thread would translate into the game, I don't think it would be practical to have that follow traditional means of communication, as any deal of eg /nasa/ and /risu/ would require months of travel to even arrange a meeting, nevermind any follow-up meetings and conversations.

As such, I would suggest an alternative system: all reps are able to communicate through a device to a central room in area controlled by /vtwbg/, where meetings and discussions would be held.
Such a device would be an artifact, bestowed upon us by jannies/deities/the powers that (w)be(g), and only one per nation exists. They may be magical, or contain technology advanced enough that it may as well be magic. They would be non-reverse-engineerable, apart from maybe /nasa/ and /rbc/ (though it can become a definitive yes or no through discussion),and indestructible.
Their single and only use would be to communicate with other devices of this type, though we'd have to establish whether communication between eg 2 parties is only possible by connecting to the meeting room, meaning anyone can join in and hear them, whether private 1-to-1 or group communications are possible, whether logs/archives of conversations remain afterwards, whether the meeting centre would also act as a relay station etc
The way multiple people from one thread sharing their opinions could be handled could be that they are in the room with the rep that possesses the device, or that the rep has given them permission to use it in their absence. Of course, it being stolen remains a possibility, unless we somehow bind it to only permitted users, if we want to do that.
This would not mean that travel times won't matter anymore, as this only concerns communications at the highest level. Reps would have to transfer the information to their respective country leaders/councillors/ministers/generals etc, who would then need to send their own messengers. This means that, for example, even if /rose/ and /kfp/ establish a trade deal, it would still take days/weeks of preparation plus however many months of travel for the trade to actually take place.

I feel this is a good suggestion to rid us of some time constraints we've been handwaving so far, as the time periods required for all of everything that happened since the thread started would add up significantly even now, but more so as time passed. We've already ignored however many months the /nasa/ exploration, production and construction procedures, or the /risu/-/inf/ road construction would've taken, in what I assume is the name of creative writing, so I'd prefer we didn't stack up too many timeskips.

Its a pickle until we get /infinity/ aboard, but we should reach a deal soon.

That's a good problem to bring up, but I feel like a magical rep-only network would kind of require a measure of suspension of disbelief to make it so that the nations don't use it for non-rep matters. Like, two allied fleets from different nations would obviously use this to have perfect communications. It's just moving the handwaving to something else.
Why not assume those communications are done through messenger birds? This would cut down even intercontinental communications to a couple weeks instead of months.

The ships would be weighted properly so maneuverability would be pretty solid. You can make some pretty big yachts out of the ships. They won't be galleons but they can still carry lots of rations.

Obviously we'll be using better sails than that yacht. We'll have to experiment with models on how big the ship and sails can get. With a efficient gas motor big aluminum ships can haul just as much as a galleon. Though at that size we'll protect the ship's hull with steel.

I kinda have a solution that doesn't require satelite communication. We can simply use chuubanite crystals like radio towers. We can set up relays that carry messages from one point to the next. It still will take time to intercept and translate but its faster than messenger birds.

This is pretty much my opinion as well. This way /luna/ can have their super soldier knights but functionally they're irrelevant economically and militarily.

Before I forget to answer about metal refining it really depends. If we're just smelting ore into ingots then maybe /nasa/ can help with setting the temperature with their gallium thermometers. If a special furnace needs to be built that is beyond industrial era tech then there's no dice. Anything using electric arc blast furnaces will be exclusive to /nasa/. Nice!
I restored the details on the imperial college, if you approve I'll anchor it to make archiveanon earn his paycheck and update the entry. Do you have any other suggestions? There was also a bit about the imperial electorate sending deadbeats on missions in the original, but with the way foreign policy has been conducted in /vtwbg/ so far, I don't think /hlgg/ would have the political power to do something like this, even if it was an imperial figurehead of sorts.
Nice Ope, saved.

# Biological Anthropology of the Deadbeat

The inhabitants of /morig/, the deadbeats, are physically quite an odd specimen when compared to the human and semi-human inhabitants of /vt/. /hlgg/ Empire physicians have autopsied deadbeats and found that perhaps unsurprisingly their bones are incredibly dense and strong.

...

The most surprising thing about their physiology is that their nervous system is entirely contained within their bones and many of their internal organs appear connected to their skeletal structure. A white calcified protective layer sheathes many of the internal organs. This, combined with the density of their bones leaves them with an incredibly well protected nervous system. Some members of the imperial college have suggested that the flesh is in fact more of a puppet that the skeleton controls. Thus, the old deadbeat saying: “There is a deadbeat inside all of us”. The consensus of the imperial college is a rejection of this hypothesis, though that may be due to its controversial nature. This leads to deadbeats being able to survive grievous injury, the level of which would normally kill say a hooman from blood loss, as well as maintain functionality so long as the bone is not significantly damaged. Critical injuries to the head are still fatal, as are heavy wounds to the upper chest. These characteristics may explain why even when thrown into some of the most suicidal military operations, deadbeat squads may find victory in operations intended to be diversions. They suffer terrible losses and injuries, but can keep pressing forward thanks to their unique physiology.

Wind energy might be for the best given the location, since you don't really get a lot of sunlight in the long winter months that far up north. That said, if the fusion reactor's still running, it might be good enough to power a decent aluminium production facility. In fact, it might well corner that market when the closest competition would be either water or coal powerplant (and /inf/'s probably the only one with the technology).

/risu/'s climate is very humid. Which means steel tools won't keep for long without constant oil. Stainless steel should allow /risu/ to use the tools for much longer. After research Damascus steel does rust. So its either stainless steel or carbon steel. Which /infinity/ has /risu/ covered.

I don't think the two are necessarily mutually exclusive. Given that the world's based on the threads, and I highly doubt /hlgg/ nowadays have that kind of influence, any orders that come out from it will only be followed if the recipients agree with it. As such, the statement in the lore can be true if /morig/'s fine with following the orders of deploying deadbeats in meatgrinders.
One reason that I can think of that would justify that is that /morig/ (or at least the decision-making part) wants a stronger holo empire, which can be done if other member states follow their examples. As for the reason... well, a hypothetically united holo empire would be strong enough to shut /meat/ out (or even mount an expedition to destroy the threat once and for all), which sounds like something /morig/ is fine with.

As for making stainless steel /nasa/ has a small workshop in the station. The workshop can let us make stainless steel hand tools as fine as drill bits. Its not big enough for a full factory operation. So we're not making vats nor ships anytime soon.
