Then when Holo started getting popular, Niji was treated as if it was some bootleg knockoff.

The real reason is because there is am unironic cabal of dedicated shitposters that do nothing but make every single board on 4chan worse. They could have been born on /v/ or just pattern their tactics towards creating /v/-like states on any board their infest because /v/ was already the worst board naturally, but that's a chicken-or-egg question.
The trannies, the schizos, the raids, the tribalfags, the glowies, everything is just falseflags falseflagging as other falseflags to falseflag falseflaggers, for no other reason that a pathological need to shitpost. It's not even a widespread phenomenon or anything; all the shitposting on the ENTIRE site is the work of less than a hundred faggots.

Honestly I think the one moment would be the creation of the board. Shitflinging was pretty contained when people could only post in generals on /jp/, but with the freedom of an entire board bait and tribalism started, except it around the different fanbases of Myth girls and Vshojo. Then the NijiENs started to debut and things shifted focus to a more natural "enemy" to posters looking to start shit. Things got exponentially worse when Council came out and kinda flopped, and when Niji started launching the males who brought a whole new realm to the bait that could be posted.

Fast forward a few months and now we have tribes of very vocal baitposters who probably make the vast majority of threads, and keep them alive for days because of shitflinging and posters taking the bait. To make matters worse this board has received a reputation even in places like twitter and reddit as THE site to go to discuss vtuber drama, so big events like Rushia's firing bring in a lot of tourists that stick around for tribalist arguments or whatever scraps of drama they can shitpost about. Meanwhile the people who actually want to post about vtubers stick to generals and usually do a pretty good job at keeping the bait outside.

There isn't really a way to fix it as this place has been a vtuber gossip forum since the start, and I doubt the mods care enough to make a /vtg/ or something that would isolate the problem. So we're left hoping things eventually calm down somehow or South East Asia gets rangebanned.
